Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

I'm thinking about branching out a little more, I've bred some top Shetlands but I want a new project. I was thinking about doing a SelleX Australian Pony but so far I haven't been a covering yet. Any ideas? I have really nice Selle mares and some somewhat decent TB mares.
I've recently been producing mostly 87.5% Thoroughbred x 12.5% Selle Francais, with some pretty good results! So far the best horses I've had come from it are Lauda, Scuderia, and Enzo Ferrari, so TB x SF seems to be a pretty good mix, especially for gallop race horses.

I totally agree! I picked up this gem when I first started the game. He has more selle and low on the GP but I just adore this cross!
Ah yes!! He has the same sire as Along The Watchtower, which is the mare I used to produce Lauda, Scuderia and Enzo. SF x TB seems to be a really good mix.

Does anyone know if a TB x Hackney would turn out good? If so, please pm me! default smiley (l)
Does anyone have a halflinger x thoroughbred stud? Preferably halflinger as dominant breed with no other breeds aside from thoroughbred

Is there a nokota crossbreed out there that would be capable of winning rossettes?

Hello! Has anyone here tried crossing all the riding horse breeds together? That is something I'd like to try but I was curious if anyone else had done this and what the results were, if so?
@ fun size- you can do that but it only shows a maximum of 5 breeds in the list on the horse origins page . Iโ€™ve some ponies that are 5 way crosses

Thank you. default smiley :) Is there any benefit to having horses with all breeds? For example, do they have a more rounded skill set? Or do they only recieve their skillset from the 5 main breeds shown? I have only ever bred purebred horses. I was on Howrse for almost a year previously.

This is my all breed horse who is now no longer an all breed due to the introduction of the new Kerry Bog Pony breed a couple months ago. She has all of the riding horse breeds in her though since it's a pony breed she's missing.

United As One. Her genetics are quite low as I started with 350GP foundations. They're fairly evenly distributed, except for trot since there aren't many trot dominant breeds in the game.

Your horse's genetics are roughly the average of the parent's. It's not strictly receiving a skill set just from the breeds displayed in the genetics tab.

I recommend trying it out if you're looking for a long term projectdefault smiley :).

I forgot to mention benefitsdefault smiley (lol)
I've personally never really cared for horses with evenly distributed skill sets, as it means each skill is lower due to the distribution, whereas most purebreds, and crossbreds depending on how they were designed, have 3 skills that are much higher so they can target specific competitions.

If you want a horse that can do well in multiple types of competitions I recommend target training dressage and speed. Focus on getting those two skills high because you can then enter lower level cutting, gallop, trot and show jumping competitions.

I do have one other question regarding the horses that are all breed horses. How is the dominant breed (aka the appearance) determined? I know it is usually determined based on the sire in a cross but what I'm curious about is how it's determined in crosses of all breeds?

Crossbreed breed determination has a few different rules depending on the genetics of the parents, so without how you set up your horses to breed, I couldn't' say right now.
In easy cases it's just the breed who has the highest percentage in the genetics.

United's sire has 4 breeds with higher percentages than the mother, meaning one of those 4breeds would be United's dominant breed. She took Holsteiner, and my theory for that is the cross was treated like breeding two horses together with different breeds, but the same percentage of each one (like breeding a 50/50 AppyxArabian stallion with a 50/50 GypsyxBarb mare), in which case the foal would take the stallion's 2nd listed breed.

That's just my theory for her though, and it will depend on what the breed genetics of the parents in your project look like.

Thank you so much! I was really hoping I could sort of determine the main breed when breeding these horses because I really like the looks of certain breeds better than the others. Thanks again. I'll experiment a little. default smiley :)

In smaller projects when using fewer breeds it's easier to control what your breed outcome will be. But because of the amount of breeds involved with this, the way I bottlenecked them, and not wanting to bother getting a specific gender with a particular horse, I didn't want to add another challenge to an already large projectdefault smiley (lol)

If you know how breed determination is found in most cases and plan your pairs it is possible to get a specific breed for your final horse

I do understand it mostly just not for so many breeds all together. I was really looking forward to the challenge of it. I like a good challenge once in awhile. It keeps things interesting. Thank you so much for your help. I'll be sure and let you know if I get it down to a science.
Looking for a Halflinger X Thoroughbred Stud for one of my mare. Does anyone have one?

Hi everyone! I have a high GP (11059.65) fully blupped Selle Francais mare I'd like to cross with something. Does anyone know any combination that might give me a shot at rosettes?

Thank you in advance default smiley ^)

Crossing to a GV will give you a foal with Rosette capabilities.

@AVH Lover

Thank you! Would that be in GV only comps or in all-breed comps? Just so I know where to target default smiley ^)
