Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

So i've been away from crossbreeding (well, ultimately Howrse) for a while and i'm quite looking to get started! Just doing promos alone has allowed me to gain quite a few BM's...

I was wondering if anyone had experimented with the following breeds:

Selle Francais x Welsh
Selle Francais x Paint Horse
Lusitano x Peruvian Paso
Lusitano x Welsh

I'd love to see them (or if you have bred any with similar skill sets!)

Hi, I’m looking to get into cross breeding and I want to do it pretty seriously and make a name for myself.

If anybody that is very experienced would allow me to PM them, let me know. I’ve tried reaching out to some people and I have been ignored every time via PM.

I would REALLY appreciate any and all help I can receive before I begin my breeding farm. Thank you!

Finally got a hold of a QH cross that I like and hopefully he will do pretty well in cutting comps.

Fancy Feet

If anyone could give me some advice on what kind of competitions this mare would excel in, I would greatly appreciate it!! Thank you! default smiley :)

Fancy Feet's top skills are jumping, dressage and speed. She should do well in show jumping competitions if you train her in dressage then jumping. You can also train speed instead of jumping for cross country, gallop and trot races.

My knowledge of western comps is limited, but you could try cutting since that depends on dressage and speed. You might have more success there since Knabstruppers seem to be a primarily Western breed.

Excited to see how she'll turn out! Fully trained, Fancy Feet might even rank for speed and jumping for her breed.

Does anyone know any potential rosette winning crossbreeds? I have heard of selle francais x kwpn, but are there any other ones?
Thanks in advancedefault smiley :)

Thoroughbred x Appaloosa crosses do great in gallop rosettesdefault smiley :)

I’m thinking I may need to do some more types of crosses the next time I have enough items to successfully BLUP something in a day.

Any successful cross combinations for rosettes?

Legacy Anne, definitely taking the TB/App cross idea. I like Appys anyways lol.

An Arabian Gypsy Vanner cross can earn rosettes

I was curious about crossing for increasing trotting in the other breeds when I found this. default smiley :)
So many competitions contain two commonly strong stats but trot is hard to find in most of the breeds.

I'm playing with crossing Arabians, Hanovarians, a Gypsy Vanner, and Thoroughbreds (mares ranging from 3000-8000 at 0-50% BLUP for now) with Lusitanos and Peruvian Pasos (horses from 9000-10000 and BLUP 100).
I was looking at Knabs and Freisians too when I realized that the other stats besides the trot that I wanted weren't as good a match for the mares. The high BLUP in the horses means that while the trot would go to where I wanted it, the rest of the stats that I like in the mares instead would come down, right? I would be sacrificing stamina and speed/gallop a lot.

I have strong a Thoroughbred, a Hanovarian and a Gypsy Vanner cross to bring any fillys back to the original breed. If I wait until the fillys BLUP 100 to breed them back, how much effect might the horses have on the trotting stat?

Also looking at different studs I noticed that some of them plataeued well before the 10 and 11s that I see in the Arabians, Stellas and Gypsys. Is that on purpose that some breeds (Hanovarians for example seems hard to find anything over 7500) don't have as strong stats as the others? If more interest was taken in training and breeding them then would the overall GP of the breed increase?

Yeah, that's true. Unfortunately some breeds aren't as popular as others, perhaps because their stats are not as ideal for certain comps as other breeds' stats?

I have acquired a TB mare, now I wanted to try the Appy/TB cross talked about in this forum however public Appy studs have a GP of about 9300 and down. Does anyone have another idea about what I could do with a TB mare?

Also, I somewhat accidentally bred this girl: Baobao, Arab/GV. She's really great! Even without items she won a rosette. Any tips on breeding her? default smiley 8-)

Wait, I'm reading some message and I'm little confuse sorry, but when you do a crossbreed it compense some skills?
For example, If I breed Gypsy Vanner x Lusitano, the foal will come with good gallop or trot?
Thanks

Off the top of my head, the gallop should be fairly decent because gallop is the GV's 4th best skill, but one of the Lusitano's top 3.

I plug the genetics of potential parents into my spreadsheet to see what it would actually look like. Crossing one of the top GVs to one of the top Lusitanos would look like this
stamina: 2130.5
speed: 1003.5
dressage: 2618
gallop: 2021.5
trot: 1679
jump: 1968.5
overall GP: 11424.5

Dressage, stamina and gallop would be your top 3, but you are increasing the trot of the Gypsy Vanner.

First crossbred horse i've done in a while and a new one to me!

>>>>> Sanity <<<<<

He's a Paint Horse x Peruvian Paso. Seems to be doing well in dressage comps. He's come up 1st in Paint Horse trot and 84th overall Paint.

If bred with a top 50/50 galloper (such as TB x Appaloosa), he'd produce a Paso foal that would smash the Paso gallop rankings and possibly also Paso Dressage comps, but I have no motivation to do that currently, if someone does then you are very welcome to a covering!

Now for the next part of my dressage horse project..........

Actually may have just got that wrong, in a 50/50 covering with a 50/50 mare (all different breeds) is it the second breed of the mare or stallion it takes? Can't remember!

I'm sorry, but this is bad advice. If you are going for jump comps, you train speed/dressage and enter low jump for your wins. If you are going for xc comps, you train dressage/jump and go for low xc for your wins...Speed has nothing to do with xc. And you need speed for jump.;

Arabian horse x Gypsy Vanner makes for some pretty good stamina... add in a quarter horse for those weak spots, and you have a pretty good horse! default smiley (y)

If the 4 breeds are different between the two horses it will take the sire's second listed breeddefault smiley :)

Does anybody do Fresian sport horses?

How do they do in comps?

Well wouldn't you look at that.

>>>> This mare here <<<< I was initially Blupping in order to breed with my recent stallion for a 4 breed dressage horse, and whilst entering competitions this mare, who is Knab x Lusitano actually won me a couple of rosettes!
Now to rethink my plan for the final foal... keep improving on these crosses or stick to original plan? Hmmmmm
