Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Almost forgot the Appaloosas for cutting. Fjord is showing promise but the jury is still out.

Noted. Thanks!
I've got all of Amira's tack. Trying to decide what would be good to put it on! I need something to do well in the divine comps. If I could use it for Grand Prix breeding first that would be a bonus.

I'm thinking maybe cross my horse Tabino. He's a pretty good reining horse. Perhaps with a Selle to bring up speed and jump might make a good cross country/showjumping horse?

Currently my top Grand Prix cutters are Fjords. They place in the 600's so well behind the Argentine Criollo's that tend to win it. Guess the GP's aren't high enough. Would be a good choice at a lower GP though I think.

So maybe a Fjord cross with another cutter , then cross with my horses. Ok, thanks!

I just realized... a horse I’d branded as useless is actually a really good reining horse... he’s a Marwari cross

And now another reiner! GV x Marwari, gonna train him up and see how it goes
Thoughts on crossing a Gypsy with Connemara so the Connemara is the dominant breed? I like the idea of dominating comps with a high GP/skill Connie default smiley :p

I cross-bred a Gypsy with KWPN the other day and it was a complete fail and waste of passes. I ended up selling for 500e and 2 Passes because it was useless to me and I got sick of losing every comp I entered. This is the horse.

That horse would’ve done fine in Cross Country or Gallop comps, and yeah the Welsh cross sounds good, probably would be a gallop/dressage horse

I’m currently working on some XC Lusitanos

Regarding the waste of passes horse, that has happened to me twice now and I only just started this a week or so ago. For whatever reason, my 50/50 QH x TB crosses do super well and my higher percentage thoroughbreds do not do well at all. It’s odd.

I'm going to start working on Gallop Selles. I have no idea how, but I'll figure it out hopefully default smiley xd
Really proud of this mare!!

Three years old and winning already. I have a champion on my hands. My 50/50 crosses are doing super well for me.

I entered all competitions in all levels of difficulty and lost way more than I won.

Maybe cutting? That’ll be interesting. Huh. Never tried that cross

Just for an experiment I bred a Standardbred/Gypsy Vanner. What competitions do you think he'll be best at?

Jelly

Looks like cross country (which you get with Vanners, not sure about Standardbreds).

Don't know if you need this info, but just in case: I'd train him just in dressage and jumping at first. Enter him in one or two competitions a day once you can do, as you continue his training. That way you should find it easier to get the 20 wins to Blup him. The primary skill for the event (stamina) sets the competition level, so keeping that low at first means he's in lower level comps and has more chance.

A lusitano would improve both gallop and trot at once
Thank you! I will definetly add a lusitano to the mix in the future. I just started crossbreeding to be honest.

I’ve been successful with my TB/QH crosses.

Any other ideas of what I could cross a QH with? I want to keep my speed, dressage, and gallop high enough to see gallop comp rosettes
