Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

Edit by pixiesbite

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Seems like a very good all-rounder to me TallyHo (:

So I'm back after not playing for several years, I'm very rusty with cross-breeding, again, but what crosses well with Shetlands?

So Lusi/Vanner/Nokota = start with Trail and if that doesn't work out try Reining? We'll see what happens. My math is averaging the two skills to be trained in target and whichever discipline is higher wins unless I can start something else out of curiosity but still target for another one. The cotter pin in this one is Dressage.

Aww if you target you have to choose between Cross Country, Reining and Barrels. Hope he makes it easy to figure out with field of horses he'll run against better. I've been having to memorize some horse's/breeders names to avoid in comps because a horse that was doing well amoung any other group would always lost to them.

You can target for Reining and Western and probably do well. When Stamina is higher than Speed they seem to lean Western. Classic target involves at lot of Strong Speed/Dressage.

I'm quite pleased with him, I think he'll make a great all rounder :] fingers crossed he'll make the elite scoreboard for the Welshies default smiley (l)

I wish I could quote a quoted message, but it won’t let me.

But thank you guys!
I’ll try out the Gypsy / Appy cross probably this weekend.

I’m really falling in love with Appy crosses so even if that foal becomes a fail, it’ll still be a neat horse to have in my collection.

Hi all!

I've been a casual player for years... though I was struggling with my health for quite some time and stopped playing, and when I tried to log in again, my account was gone.

So I made a new account, and here I am!

I have been delving into the world of cross breeding, and am wanting to do something with 50/50 x 50/50. I see that the foal will take the sire's 2nd (non-dominant) breed, which is relevant for competitions.

My goal is a horse that excels in dressage (who I can also customize and make immortal default smiley :p )

From what's I've looked at so far, I've narrowed it down to the following breeds:

Lusitano and/or Morgan (dressage)
TB (gallop), Trakehner, or maybe Marwari
Tennessee Walker OR Nakota (dressage+trot)

I would love to incorporate some Icelandic horse (soft spot for me!)

Obviously I still need to narrow it down further! As I said, I was a very casual player before, but some changes in my life have made it so that I have more downtime, and I have always loved Howrse!

Hopefully some of you lovely folks can help me decide!
I currently have two Lusitano foals (one colt, one filly) that I'm hoping to bring into the fold!

Also, I'm always happy to just chat/make friends! default smiley (l)

This dude is the second best welsh on the game :]]

He's 1st in dressage, 3rd in stamina, 8th in jumping, 11th in trot and 103rd in gallop. He's surpassed my expectations so much default smiley :d Time to train his twin I think!!

I crossed a nokota stallion to a marwari mare and this happened. Since the two breeds have completely opposite skill sets it seems to have evened out.

what would do well breeding with a Marwari? Im new to cross breeding and wanting something with good galloping but also good stamina. My Marwari mare training is 100% in galloping and 80 in stamina but was wondering what to breed her with for something a bit more excelling

If you do a nokota marwari you get a well rounded skillset.

A kwpn dom marwari cross does excellent in barrel racing against other KWPNs as well as in cutting.

A marwarixTB is a basic gallop monster in both classic and western.

Marwari and GV or Arab would have high stamina, dressage, speed, gallop, and jumping but trot would be lowish

I do! I will PM you layer and we can discuss it!

I have both. Here is a TBxGV cross and here is an (outdated) ArabxTB cross. I think the breeds make really nice crosses!

Also, does anyone have any successful Kerry Bog crosses or suggestions for such crosses? I don't have any particular goal yet but I really like the breed and would like to do something with them.

New addition to Mt Lake Appaloosa.. Lusitano x Appaloosa colt. Will blup this guy and see what kind of dressage skills we end up with. Hopefully he’ll do pretty well in the Dressage competitions for Appaloosa horses.

I just did [url=https://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=56780899this one[/url]. I could probably have her blupped within the next day if you'd like to see her blupped. It just depends on how much homework I want to do today default smiley (lol)

@wildeflowurs based on those breeds you listed i think TB/Tennessee Walker is a good place to start. that'll give you a fairly even distribution of skills but with dressage favored. I have one that I bred a while ago so her GP/skills are low but she does well in dressage competitions. Here she is if you want to see the skill distribution for that cross
