Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

I’m thinking about a Marwari/Lusitano Cross but I’ve been stuck on Western crosses for a while and would like to go back to Classical. What would make a good Classical Marwari cross?

Looks to me like he might be a pretty good all rounder in Classical.

How do you target train for Gallop races?
Thx a TONNE!

Thanks, Rowan! I'll definitely mark him down for that.

Hey there!

If you are wishing for your future crossie to be a targeted gallop horse, you are going to want to breed probably a TB to another breed or combination of breeds that produces a horse with very low gallop and higher speed and dressage as those are the other two dominant skills. Make sure that the horses you breed are ones that will produce a higher speed and dressage. You could even chose to not train gallop at all and bold every other skill. You also could do beach rides to move skills from gallop to speed.

If I were you, I might try breeding a TB mare to a Selle stud. That would make the dominant breed Selle. If you notice, the Selles have a pretty low gallop skill level and their speed and dressage are two of their top skills. You also could try some other two way combos for the father but i would definitely use a TB as the mother just for your first try at it.

If you wish to discuss this more, please feel free to PM me!

Thanks jgmcd03!
hi guys! so im not big into cross breeding and actually have no idea what im doing. i have 2 comments to make:

1- my friend recently gave me a high gp Lusitano stallion as a gift. I don't have any lusitano mares and neither does she that aren't closely related to this stallion. I would like to crossbreed but Im wondering what would make the breed would make the most sense. I'm not aiming for a high particular skill, just a high genetic potential in general.

2- i've been breeding hanoverian/paint crosses for fun even though i haven't been doing any researching into it. i was wondering if this would actually produce a good foal or not. im not really aiming for competition horses out of them because i don't focus on crossbreeding, but i was just curious.

thanks!

Advice on this horse?

Does anyone have any advice on what specialty to keep this horse in? I keep switching back and forth and can't decide, lol

Hanoverian's top skills are jumping, gallop, and speed. Paint horses top skills are speed dressage and gallop. Depending on what gender foal you are trying for, I believe if you bred for a Hanoverian, it would boost the foals dressage, making it a good foal for maybe Hanoverian only gallop comps. On the other hand, if you bred for Paint horses, the Hanoverian would hand down the paint horse foal good genetics for jumping.

I am not that well versed with western competitions, so I am only giving classical competition options. There may be some good western skills in there, as well.
@Lizzard145 thank you!

What's a good cross for barrel racing? And how would you target train one?
Thanks so much for the help?default smiley (l)

Gypsys are good barreling bases. I have a ThoroughbredxGypsyxNokota cross who did well in Barrels when I did not train the speed skill but worked stamina and gallop until he was winning.
Also had fun with a LusitanoxGypsyxNokota on Trails.

I think that marwari x mustang work for barrel, but it might be a different comp I'm thinking of

Lizzard-
That is an excellent horse for lower difficulty cutting comps. It could do Show Jumping too. You should have no problem getting those wins.

Ok so I did the Marwari-TB cross. Gallop is super high, Speed and Stamina about 700 lower ( !). Anyone know of a breed or cross who could lower the Gallop and raise the other two?

Nokota x Mustang

Here is an ideal one..... Curly x Fjord/KWPN

I kinda wanna cross breed but have no clue what im doing. would someone be able to give me tips/advice??
By Retired breeder, 21st August 2018 14:52:04
Sure, I’d love to help.
By Retired breeder, 21st August 2018 18:56:34
Would a gypsy x Marwari or an Arab x TB be good at barrels?
By Retired breeder, 22nd August 2018 15:24:27
Gypsy/Marwari might do well at barrels, as speed is low and Stamina and Gallop are significantly higher on both breeds.
By Retired breeder, 22nd August 2018 15:25:34
I have no experience with Arabs or TBs on this server, but I think they’d do well at reining.

Does anyone know of some jumping mixes other than Kwpn x Selle's?
Does anybody have a super high GP stud i could borrow?
I need a marwari x thoroughbred with marwari listed second.
