Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Bred my Tabino (Vanner x Paint) with a Peruvian Paso and ended up with quite an even skill set, favouring 1st 3. Guess that could mean cutting... but I think I'll probably go Classical as she'd be targeted for Showjumping, Trot and Gallop! Tempted to repeat with tears as I think this has potential for an Amira horse? What do folks think?

Apparently I already did the mix twice without realising it! Same results, but a male, so I guess they may be bred together at some point! Also thinking bringing in something like a Selle x Paso might work to bring the speed up. I'd like to get everything over 2000 skills as well.

So I just made a paint x KWPN cross with KWPN as the breed but I am not sure if the filly I got would make a good cutting horse. Her top three skills are speed, dressage and gallop. If she will not do well in cutting what comps would she be great in?

You want stamina low for cutting comps to get in lower comps. And you want speed/dressage highest

I crossbred a high GP KWPN and a high GP Arabian Stallion to get an Arabian filly, she's the first filly in a very time consuming experiment to get all breeds into one horse with a very high GP. The filly I bred has over 2000 IBS

Here she is!

If you're aiming for high-earnings comps (potentially rosettes) I would say put her in Barrel Racing (Speed, Stamina, Gallop) Reining (Gallop, Dressage, Stamina) or Gallop (Gallop, Speed, Dressage). If you just want wins I would aim for Cutting, Cross Country, or Show Jumping.
What would be a good Gypsy vanner cross to win cutting, western pleasure, or trail class?

If you want to target then look for good speed and dressage for cutting, and trot and jump for trail, stamina and dressage for western in both horses. You may have more luck with western pleasure since it shares skills with Reining. All of my Vanners who are getting anything done are either Reiners or Barrelers because they seem to lean to stamina, dressage, and gallop.

My Vanner x Paint is currently my top Grand Prix Cutting and Reining horse. He comes in the 500's, so probably not that impressive. OK in general comps. Does good in general Cutting comps, not so good in Trail and Western, though he's managed a couple of wins.

How would Pebble and Pearl do for show jumping? They are a Selle x KWPN cross, and their parents usually get 2cd or 3rd in compitions. Their father also have some Nokata in him.

Hi, what's the major stat in Cross country? I only have Western-oriented horses, so I cannot check it myself. Thanks in advance!

You’re going to want high stamina and jumping skills

Hi! After taking a look at Pebble, I would say your best bet is to enter rookie competitions for blupping. While her stats make her a show jumper, you *may* get beat by other horses that have a higher skill set. Giving her bonus items will help her.

Take a look at the breeder’s manual under the competitions section to see what the current rookie max is. Make sure that your skills don’t go over that. If you have to skip rides to enter competitions, do it.

It's been a LONG while since I've been in the forums. I use to be a pretty active cross breeder, but have slowed down in the past year or so. Sadly, I don't see myself picking it back up anytime soon. Especially with my drastic change in career. It definitely does NOT mean I'm leaving the game, but think I'm gonna clear some projects on my plate. I mean, I have some SERIOUS project issues. You know what I'm sayin? So I guess what I'm saying is, I'm going to shelve my Friesian crosses and my Western Morgans. Already I've had to shelve 3 NIB projects for the simple facts that Foundation Morgans, 350 and Rolling, are becoming increasingly hard to find or buy due to high prices and that a NIB All Breed Cross is going to be another nightmare. It took me a YEAR to do my first All Breed (excluding Kerry Bog as it didn't come out until waaaay later). So I think I'll reduce myself to my Pure Morgans and my Morabs....which means I'll have to totally revamp my EC. Fun. default smiley xd

Three new additions, all are Gypsy Vanner x Appaloosa. I have to pick which one I want to skill, don’t have time to do all three but maybe I can save them for later.

Hey cross-breeders,

I have a helpful google sheet to share with you all (a big improvement from the one I shared years ago)

Projected GP Calculation

This is for planning your cross-breeding projects. All you need to do is paste in the ID number of the mare and the stallion into the orange fields, and the sheet retrieves all their stats and calculates the average GP for each skill, giving you an estimate of what the foal's stats will be like.

Note! the GP is only the average, it does not include GP increase calculations, the formula for that is too complex.

The ratio column gives the foal's GP ratio for each skill, if you don't know what that's for, just ignore it.

To get the ID number, you just need to look at the url of the horse.
For example: https://www.howrse.com/elevage/chevaux/cheval?id=56277166
The ID is 56277166

For 4-way crosses, put the parents of the first cross to the left table, second cross to the right table, and the 4 way foal will be automatically calculated at the bottom table.

Feel free to make copies of the sheet, share, what ever, it's all yours default smiley ^)

I think I might have the old sheet still saved to my Google Drive. Thank you so much for making these! You're the bestest default smiley (l)
