Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Does anyone know if a Nokato x KWPN cross would be a good showjumper? I have a sire who's slighly part Nokota and he usually gets 2cd or 3rd in compitions.

I doubt it. Nokos are a Trail comp horse, so all you'd do is raise the trot in a KWPN a smidge or stamina in a Noko. Correct me if I'm wrong on the latter, I don't breed KWPNs so I forget if it's stamina or speed as one of their top 3.

That is definitely weird. The only things I could suggest is a hard refresh (ctrl + F5) or clearing the cache.

No, the link is the issue.

If you cycle through your own horses using the arrow buttons, and then just copy and paste the url, the link you post ends up containing information that takes anyone who is not logged into your account to a wrong horse. What horse that will be varies wildly.

To post a clean link to a horse, make sure there is nothing in the url after the id number.

I wanna know, do people breed certain horses together in order to get really good horses for a certain competition? for example insanely low trot and extremely high whatever the 2 secondary skills are to get a good trot comp winner? do people do that?

It depends on my mood default smiley xd
Some times I want to mix 2 breeds that complement each other and get a foal of the lowest GP breed I use.
Most of the times I just focus on the 2 second skills: Stamina and Dressage for all western comps except trail (since it trot and jump if im not mistaken) and/or Speed and Dressage for classic comps except cross country since its dressage and jumping.
Never did a cross to even the stats but will probably do some int eh future

This is a pretty basic question, but what determines the breed of the foal? I thought whichever parent had the higher GP, that would be the breed of the foal. However, i bred a 11,00GP Selle mare with a 9,000GP standardbred stud, and the foal was a standardbred. So, now I am all confused. Thank you in advance default smiley ^)

The stud or the breed which is predominant in the parents I think?

For example if you have a half-appaloosa (dam)/half-GV (sire) it would be a GV. If you breed it to a half-Appaloosa/half-Criolla, then the foal would be Appaloosa.

There are a couple of different "rules" which come into factor depending on the percentage of breeds involved. GP does not have an effect. If it's a simple 50/50 cross (breeding two purebreds together, then the foal will take the sire's breed.

If the parents are even percentages of all different breeds, then it takes the sire's second listed breed (such as a 50/50 Thoroughbred x KWPN bred to a 50/50 Selle x Gypsy Vanner). This horse took its sire's second listed breed. Breed listing, or order, refers to the breeds listed on the horse's "genetic" tab.

If the breeds are the same between the parents, then I've found it takes the dam's last listed breed. Like William. His parents are both 25/25/25/25 Appy x Lus x Vanner xPaso (in different breed order). This one was trickier to tell because all of the breeds are the same, so I had to breed multiple foals from parents of same breeds, but different breed order to discover this one. But I'm always on the lookout for anomalies.

If the listed breeds aren't of equal percentages then the foal takes the breed with the highest percentage between the two parents. It's tricky at first, but you'll get it with practicedefault smiley :)

Another thing to note is that breed order is randomized if the percentages are equal. So if you want to breed a stud with Appy listed second so your final cross will be an Appy, you may have to breed for your colt a couple of times before Appy will be placed second.

I had to breed this mare 3 times before I could get Lipizzan listed second as I intended her future grand baby to be a Lipizzan. The other two times I bred her the foal had Marwari listed second.

I’m going to attempt a cross that has the appearance of a Quarter Pony and the skill set of a Tennessee Walking Horse. I know it’s going to take some work. Does anyone know of some crosses to make that happen?

I did that calculations with a simple T.walker x Q.Pony cross. I used the genetics of what was top in the sales at the moment, and the Q.Pony genetics were significantly lower than the Walker, so you'd end up with a Q.Pony (so long as both parents are purebred, and the Q. Pony is the stallion), that had stamina, dressage and trot as its top 3 skills.

If you were able to get a Q.Pony with higher genetics, you'd want to recalculate in case the results would change.

Here are the rough, estimated genetics of the foal based on the parents I used.
stamina: 2071
speed: 1301
dressage: 1778
gallop:1087
trot: 1781
jump: 914
overall: 8936

And it's like, I COULD do 'all breed' comps, but that's mostly for just bolding skills because I know that my horse is going to get rolled over like a damsel tied to the train tracks. So I TRY to stick to breed only comps. But if I'm only getting like 1 comp out of 5 options...that's sad. Like, do Morgan teams purposely keep their comps low so they can scoop up all their wins easy? The only things I haven't touched yet in training on the one I'm trying to BLUP now is trot and gallop, but those are respectfully around 500 and 300. I know there's comps there for those, but since it's such a pain to keep his top 3 skills below 1400, he can't see them!

I have a rly strange Marwari cross for reining comps. I would add a link but I’m on mobile. I want to do a Marwari-TB sometime for reining maybe but haven’t gotten good enough TBs yet.

Re Western crosses, bought one yesterday that's turned out well: Lusitano/Knabstrupper cross. She came 252nd in the Trail Class Grand Prix last night, and got all her 20 wins in trail while I was training her for that yesterday. Still behind my top Nokota, but it's difficult to buy high GP Nokotas, so I think she will be bred to him soon!

Meanwhile, I need some suggestions as to what to do with this guy. I've been experimenting with nokotas, but this guy backfired on me a bit lol I was hoping for a nokota dominant but I forgot about the breed thing.
