Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Happened to have an Arab/GV mix. Tried out your idea and look: QH/Arab/GV --> he seems really nice. I might just go off and train him right away. default smiley (7) Thanks for the idea! If anyone wants a foal from his mom (same or other cross) feel free to send me a PM. default smiley 8-)

My bad, I mixed up cross country and show jumping!

So I've decided that my new goal is to have a top ranked Shetland cross in each skill. I've already accomplished this in the overall, jumping, dressage, and speed. So to get a top cross in the following I was thinking of these crosses...

Trot: Shet and Paso
Stamina: Shet and Gypsy Vanner
Gallop: Shet and thoroughbred

Most of the top ones only have a GP of high 9000 so I need lower mares. Any thoughts on how well this would work? The goal isn't winning or BLUPing just being top skilled

What do you mean with 'I need lower mares'? For the Shets? I suppose 50/50 crosses should work with this project (which I think is absolutely a very cool project!) default smiley <:o)

for the shetd the highest GP you can get on mares the better, that way your foal comes out with maybe better GP if you have higher GP studs than the mares or decent GP compared to the overall shets (if you cant find studs with higher GP then the mares you have or will have)

I could be wrong but for me when i cross i always aim to have high GP mares and studs to breed

but sound fun! could probably do tgat with an unpopular breed myself

If I was looking to make a horse who had similar GP in all skills, what breed(s) would I cross?

Please let me know via PM since I may not check back here.

Thanks in advance!

Just bred a pair of fillies these gorgeous ladies with just IBS, foal games, and GP will be a sweet 14,290.93 which earn them the #2 spot

Does anyone have any ideas on which breed to cross a fjord with? I have a fjord mare but no where else to start default smiley (o)
Does anybody think this foal is worth keeping to BLUP?

Was just a random I did. Not really sure if she’d be competitive in the comps, which is the purpose.

Crossbred I’m working on, anyone else want one?
This was my projext for today.

She’s making me like TB / QH crosses but I want to try something without quarter horse in it next time. She can’t decide whether she wants to win more western or more classical, but she’s doing well so far. I’m not sure that I’ll breed her, I don’t know what to add to the mix and there isn’t a lot going on in the public coverings....

Really excited for this little girl.

Not sure when I’ll have the time to BLUP her but I will get to it.

You could go Lusitano or Paso to clean up the weak trot. Lusitano if you want to go more Classic, Paso if you lean Western.

Eileen's Crosser

I think I foaled her too early in Eileen's training, wondering what kind of IBS I'll get next time but we'll see how she does. default smiley :)

Anyone want to help pick a name?

For the name, how about Leap for the Stars or something like that, as she’s a show jumper?
By Retired breeder, 20th June 2018 15:59:57
Daivi

He was foaled early in Natasha's training too but I'm happy for now. default smiley :) I have a Paso mare to cross with him later now that I understand BLUPing and IBS a little better.

Hmm you might want to cross that horse with a QH or AKT if you want to keep working on Cross Country.
By Retired breeder, 20th June 2018 19:31:05

Thanks! I have a PB QH in the 8's who I'm training right now.

My Akhal is in the 3's though. I'm working on a foaling higher PB from her for crossing.
Well I definitely think QH x TB is my favorite cross at the moment and likely what I will be focusing on until I decide to switch it up.

If anybody also does the same combo, I would love to message you regarding blupping tips and schedules default smiley :)

Guess who's making a shock revisit to howrse.com (again, lol)
I'm so torn on where to go now. I'm doing NIB drum horses but in terms of crosses I don't know if I want to go back to the classic kwpn/selle paint cross or if I want to branch out. Anybody got any fun ideas?

I'm thinking of doing a Holsteiner Selle cross, to do jumping comps with, the speeds low on the holsteiner but I'm hoping the Selle would bring it up

Anyone know what breeds do cutting, barrel racing or Cross Country? Looking to strengthen the skills of my decidedly odd crossbreds, and I’m trying to decide which specialty to focus on. Pm me w/ answers! Thanks!
By Retired breeder, 24th June 2018 03:28:55

All of my Hanovarians that I made Western are great cutters. I have a Thoroughbred and a Selle that are good at it too. Some of my GV's are taking to barrel racing.
