Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

The link you provided was for a Kerry Bog horse. If you want to do a TB cross you would do it with something like and Appaloosa or paint. This is an example of a lower appaloosa corss. He does really well in gallop competitions!

I am just getting started in cross breeding. I purchased a high skill / high GP mare, what breed would be a good breed to cross her with to get the highest skill level foal?

Thank you!!
By Retired breeder, 4th April 2018 16:06:18
She is a Selle ^^^ forgot to mention the most important aspect lol

I have a couple questions about what the best way to cross breed is, I tried it out this morning after reading some of the comments made in this post, and I was successful, but I'm not really sure what the benefits are other than, at least for me, getting the breed I've been wanting without having to pay for a huge sum.

So, is this a better way to:
Get skilled foals?
Have a wide variety of breeds?
Get rare coats?
Can you get anything exclusive from this?

Hope I'm not being to annoying!

No worries!!

Get skilled foals? --- Biggest advantage, specially with breeds that do not have the highet GP available.

Have a wide variety of breeds? --- Could be instead of buying all the breeds/colors for no less than 1500e sometimes you can just get a cover for 500e

Get rare coats? --- not sure default smiley xd

Can you get anything exclusive from this? --- fro breeds with a low GP than the most used breeds its a big advantage. you can win easily competitions if the foal is born as the breed that has the lowest GP. Can make winning Rosettes within breed competitions easy, which if you plan and skill smart you can actually win enougt Rosettes to make the top 50 in "Most Rosettes won this month" and unlock VIP status (still have to pay 10 monthly passes to use it)

Does anyone have a higher GP Shetland pure cover? I just about finished my selle and I need a cover. Or does anyone know about any Shetland teams open to crosses?
I was thinking about doing Quarabs. Any thoughts default smiley (lol)?

So I'm making my comeback (take 2) to Howrse and although my love has always been in crossbreeding, I'm having difficulties picking a breed - is it weird that I still miss the old horse templates? default smiley xd

Here's my first official Marwari since the start of last year. Ngl I'm excited to see how she does on the boards tomorrow!

Welp, I am thrilled with this feller.

830-ish overall skills Elite ranking
236 Elite Gypsy Vanner
3 Speed Gypsy Vanner
1 Jumping Gypsy Vanner

This horse has also earned me my very first rosette!!! To top it off, he is also my very first high skill comp winner as well as he earned me not one, but two rosettes. He is also very very useful for multiple competitions. I have found him to be good at Gallop, awesome at XC, and decent at a few Western comps. If anyone wants a covering, let me know!

Brother and sister ranked 5th and 6th on the Shetland leaderboard in speed! I can't wait to breed them together! Not too bad for my first serious project!

I've done a KWPN/Selle cross before (with KWPN dominant) and it worked out pretty well. Plus it's usually pretty easy to find high GP KWPN covers

TB

Appaloosa x Thoroughbred is probably the best. Appies have the high speed, and TBs have the gallop. It's a good one to win rosettes with.

Another question, I have a Gypsy Vanner mare that is pretty skilled, and can win rosettes in the lower level comps. If I want to breed a rosette winning foal, in any competition, what breed should I breed her with?

Thank you!!
