Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Hi again default smiley xd

What happen when you breed two horses with the same cross breeds but different percentages?

Example:

Sire: 34%Arab x 65%TB (he is TB)
Dam: 50%Arab x 50%TB (she is arab)

This one will be TB as TB is going to have the most percentage at ~57%.

Ohhh yes I had a slightly idea that would be the case but then I do not understand how when I bred:

Dam: 100% GV
Sire: 68.8%Arab x 31.3%GV

I got a GV foal with 65.6% GV x 34.4% Arab

Is there a specific known equation that I could use to better understand which breed the foal is going to take after?

Thanks!

The foal takes half from each parent. In this case you can add the percentages up of each breed that occur across both parents an divide by 2.

For that cross you have Gypsy Vanner: (100+31.3)/ 2= 65.65% GV
and Arab: 68.8/ 2= 34.4% Arab

Whom here has bred a Rosette winner? I kinda want to attempt one but I'm not sure which breeds to use.

There are a couple crosses that are easy-peasy ones, such as an AppyxTB cross for gallop rosettes, or a Selle x KWPN for show jumping. I've entered him in KWPN only, and even being 3+ months outdated he can still win a lower level one once in awhile.

I sat down with a spreadsheet and the horse rankings one day to breed this Haflinger cross for reining. I wasn't able to get my hands on a Haflinger with the genetics I needed to be more competitive, but he did luck out and win 1 reining rosette for me once.

I take a look at the horse rankings to see what the skills of the "Grand Prix" breeds have, then start plugging in the numbers of breeds with the same skill sets to look what different cross combos will give me.

Just picked up a stallion that's a four way cross - Paint, Quarter Horse, KWPN, and Thoroughbred. Paint won out, but he has the top skills of a TB with jumping a close fourth. He should be fun for some crossbreeding projects of mine!

aghh I want to breed her to something other than a GV but its so hard to find good studs...
Nana Shimura

Would love to get a rosette reining baby from her but im not sure how many skill points i need for rosettes to appear in reining comps...

Anyone has a stallion they wouldnt mind stud with more than 1569 GP and with Stamina/Dressage focused?

Is it possible to breed out a cross breed. Like 50 quarter and 50 paint. Like what if I just keep breeding each foal with a purebred quarter will it eventually become a pure? To be honest I would never do it because that seems like too much work but I just wanted to know if anyone else has done it.

nope, its not possible. the closest you can do (example) is 99% quarter and 1% paint

We used to be able to up until recently. Now, the end result will always have that 1% of Paint in the Cross you gave for an example.

Okay, Forever the Fallen (the mare I linked to a few posts ago) is #2 for Shagya Elite. Bred her to a random cross from the public offers and got this girl. What are your opinions on her?

Also, Fallen can see open XC rosette comps and can place 2nd and 3rd. What should I breed her to (preferably keeping Shagya dominant) in order to have a better shot at winning?
Is Fallen a 50% Shagaya?
If so then do not breed her to another 50% shagaya cause the foal will come out as the second breed on the mares genetic and since your mare is a dom shagaya that means her second genetic breed is not shagaya so if you breed her to another 50% shagaya you foal will not come shagaya dominant

when im crossing im normally checking which breeds have the same or very close the same skills as the top 3 i want to breed. for XC that would be Stamina/Dressage/Jumping and that would leave GV and Arabian to breed with but in that case your foal would come out GV or arabian.

Could take another generation to get back the shagaya look.

I had the same problem with trying to breed for arabian look but i gave up and now im just focusing on getting Stamina and Dressage up for XC
Also trying to breed a Reining/Cutting rosette winner with my ARab x GV crosses I have as I explained in my previous post but its hard to find public studs with high enough skills to keep up with competition default smiley :'(

@Svart - Not necessary. I could try to breed her to a Shagya dominant Arab or GV. That would keep the Shagya dominant as Shagya would have the most percentage. Now finding this cross will be the issue default smiley xd Or maybe just breed to an Arab/GV cross...

Anyone have an Arab/GV stud that will throw an Arab dominant foal?
By Retired breeder, 9th March 2018 22:39:07
Also, Shagya is listed second on Fallen's genetic tab. I plan on starting a line of Shagya/Paint with her so I made sure I checked what kind of foal she'd throw.

oh yeah i know that! i was trying to explain if you crossed her to a 50% shagaya and 50% paint, same breeds as her... ahhhh now im a bit confused again, will read my notes about this crossbreeding business default smiley xd default smiley (o) ummm its confusing lol
