Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

After a long hiatus from the game I started playing again a few days ago. I decided to start cross breeding again and this time I am going to make it my main mission. I just love coming up with different combinations. My most recent horse Telepathic is actually in the top 20 for skills in Arabian (he’s 50% arabian, 37.5% SF, and and is 12.5% GV) number one in Jumping for skills. Very happy with him. I have a few others that have been in the rankings the last few days but not as impressive as his.

So, I promised to share my new secret 4 way babies...I have 1 more set I want too do, but I gotta get the stud to 100 blup. He has his wins..now it's just...bolding. So here's the new lil ones, and if you haven't guessed...the theme is movie titles.

A Wrinkle In Time

The Maze Runner

Scent Of A Woman

Redd 2

Man From Snowy River

The Black Stallion

V For Vendetta

Pretty Woman

Rather excited. One more group of foals to breed for, then I can start the next generation and build up the GP default smiley :)

How would an Arab/Selle 50/50 look for Show Jumping? Do you think I'd need a different set of breeds? I want the dominant breed to be Arabian if that changes things... I'm new to cross breeding, and I don't really know where or how to start, but I want a solid Show Jumping horse.

Does anybody have the breeding schedule for the perfect thirds cross? And has anyone done it before?

Here's an Arab/Selle that I have, maybe not the best example out there as I'm still working on training/bolding. But he's done pretty well in show jumping comps so far, he got his wins pretty quickly actually which was nice.
I just bred a nice cross for the first time in months and I'm pretty proud of her. She's a GV/Paint/Crio cross, Crio dominant. F1. I'm loving those IBS.

So I just came back to playing Howrse after being away for years. I started crossbreeding Mustangs with Thoroughbreds just for fun.
But when I checked the skills from my Mustang mare she had the highest skills in Gallop for Mustangs.

That made me really proud, just for a moment default smiley (7)
So I might wanna take it more seriously and add one or two more breeds to achieve better skills.

Which breeds would make the most sense?

Are you wanting to continue with a speed, gallop and dressage skill set for gallop races? I would suggest Appaloosa, because they have top speed in the game, last I checked. Marwari might not be bad either, since your horse's top 3 skills are better suited for barrel, and adding Marwari would increase stamina, but you might lose a little bit of speed.

When deciding between breeds to mix, I use a spreadsheet and just "plug and chug" as my math teachers used to saydefault smiley (lol) The genetics of your foal are roughly the average of the parents'. If you want to know what the foal's speed will look like if you bred your horse to a Marwari, add the Marwari stud's speed GP to your mare's and divide by 2. It won't be exact due to the random factor, but it gives you a close idea. I have a spreadsheet set up so I can just input the parents I could use and let it do the sums for me. It's quicker than a calculator.

Thanks for the answer.default smiley (7)

I'm gonna check out the two breeds and go from there. I'm quite good at using excel so I'm gonna set something up that helps me decide.

Is there a particular reason people are crossing TB's and Selles? I've bought two niceTB's both with a tiny bit of Selle in them. Is there a reason this cross is really popular?

If I bred him to a purebred Peruvian paso, would his top 3 skills still be trot, stamina, and dressage? or do you think speed take over the stamina?
So my mare finally made it into the rankings for most XC wins!!!! She is at number 841 with 778 wins.

I did the math on it if you were to breed her to the highest GP Paso in the public covers and you'd get a foal with roughly these genetics. The GP of the mare you're working with is a bit low, so it's possible you'll get a larger gain.

Stamina: 1310
Speed: 1374.5
Dressage: 1313.5
Gallop: 795
Trot: 1713.5
Jump: 994.5
Overall: 7534

Looks like you'll end up with trot, speed and dressage.

You can calculate your foal's potential stats by taking an average of the parents' individual geneticsdefault smiley :)

Hey everyone!
I haven't been on in a little while, but I was wondering what everyone's favorite crosses were at the moment.
Looking for some new ideas.

I have come back after a extremelly ling hiatus default smiley xd

Going to start crossbreeding and wanted some advice on if its better to crossbreed to make certain skills better and higher or to try and get an all rounder horse?

My first cross was a TB x Lusitano Ni-tōbun

From previous posts in this topic i have read that the GP does not matter much, ho does that work?

Any advice is very helpful!!

Welcome back!
From experience, I don't usually recommend all-rounders ( in terms of skills) for competitions, because most purebreds are specialized in certain skills. They're higher skilled in particular areas, whereas an all rounder will have lower skills in all areas due to the distribution. Sometimes you might get lucky and it will do well, but it always depends on the horses you enter with.

However, you can design an all rounder in terms of which skills to specialize that allows you to do well in multiple competitions. I like having high speed and dressage skill, because those are supporting skills for gallop, trot, show jumping and cutting competitions. Especially if the other skills are lower (gallop, trot, jump and stamina) because then you can enter lower level comps.

I'd have to look at the posts you've seen that mention GP to understand the context for your question, but GP does matter for breeding, as blup and GP determine the stats of your foals. GP also contributes to total skills as total skills=GP+IBS+foal games+lessons.

GP matters to an extent. Just like purebreds, the best GP will produce the best horse. However, with crosses, atleast the Fri dominate ones I breed, you can still win competitions and do well with GP 3000+ below the high. This, of course, only applies if you are entering low level comps.

Ahhhh thanks!

So then Tb x Lusitano would not be the best cross then?

will then have a good look around the directories and see which breeds i will cross my TB to

I enjoy TB/Lusis for dressage comps, and they do pretty well in breed only dressage.
Yeh my TB/Lusi boy seems to be quite good at CX and dressage.

Was looking into other TB cross and am a bit undecided with KWPN and Selle.
Both very similar but KWPN has more trot than selle

Hello,

Does anyone have a good Lipizzaner combo for dressage?

Thank you for any replies

So, I accidently bought this little filly and I was wondering what should I do with her? Could I use to win trot comps for selles? Or would it be worth it to BLUP her?
