Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Wow thats amazing!

How this game is now, you could probably do well at either discipline in breed-specific comps, but I personally would definitely go for classical comps. He'd make a great jumper, but also since his dressage and speed are high and his gallop and trot are much lower, you might be able to place several wins in gallop and trot since you'll get lower-level comps, especially during BLUP (well, I suppose that depends on your schedule)

Playing with Moonrider's crossie list because they looked fun. Moonrider, are these actual heritage breeds or your own creations?

Hope this works now.
Hey guys! This MAY be a stupid question, but hopefuly not..! So here I go. I'm been crossbreeding for a while and sometimes STILL struggle to understand what the outcome will be when the mixes get extra finnicky. But one thing I thought I really got around to understand is that when you cross (and we're talking about crossing two purebreds of different breeds here) Stallion A x Mare B, the foal is of A breed and listed 2nd is the B breed. Like this guy :

https://www.howrse.com/elevage/chevaux/cheval?id=58496914

Sire was a Selle Francais and dam was a paint horse. She is a Selle Francais x Paint of the SF breed. Right? Okay moving on to example #2 and would love to know why it happend?

https://www.howrse.com/elevage/chevaux/cheval?id=58496904

This guy is a Lusitano x Paint Horse of the Lusitano breed BUT listed first is the Paint Horse. Which means that if I was to breed with another Lusitano Paint Horse cross, the foal would inevitably be a Lusitano, as his ''original breed' is listed second.

I guess long story short, why isn't the horse breed always the 1st one listed?

This is hella confusing...

As far as I know, the order in which the breeds are listed is totally random if the % of each is the same. It makes it a pain sometimes, but I've also found ways to use it to my advantage haha

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a crossbred stud with GP above 12.1k. I'm looking for something very specific though. Here is the mare I would like to breed.
https://www.howrse.com/elevage/chevaux/cheval?id=58313217

I am trying to build up my connemara skillers, but with so few people investing in them it's hard to find connemaras with GP over 12k sometimes. I am for a stud of any breed (no worries about discipline) that has mannyyyy breeds mixed into it. I'm talking four or five different breeds. These are my mare's current genetics. The reason it's been so annoying for me to breed her is because I want to only produce connemaras from her. So I am looking for a stud with at least 25 % connemara, and no more than 25 % Lusitano. Connemara should be the dominating breed, or my mare's breed should be able to dominate the genetics.
Connemara
33.9%
Lusitano
31.6%
KWPN
25.4%
Thoroughbred
6.6%
Selle Français
2.4%

If you can help please let me know! I'm sorry if this sounds confusing to anyone, but I tried to make it as clear as possible. Also, my apologies if this is against the rules. I read the guidelines above and I think my post is okay (It is explained that these coverings ARE hard to find), but again, my apologies if it isn't.
Thank you!

I might have one that would work
here . No Lusitano in the breeding, let me know if it's what you need for your project

Does anyone happen to know which horse breed out of a shetland, fjord, and selle is best to cross for really good jumpers.
By Retired breeder, 8th January 2019 01:34:35
I've been cross-breeding for so long. I started my game over to my best horse, but...dang 12k GP, my best horse is 8k. default smiley *-)

I want to breed a jumper for a using a few project horses. The breeds I use in the project is selles, shetlands, and fjords. Please keep in mind I am going to be using two purebreds in the cross. Which two breeds should I use to be able to cross the best jumper from those breeds?

Which breed is best to cross with a selle to get a jumper?
By Retired breeder, 10th January 2019 04:13:43

The Shetland is closer than the Fjord but if you're crossing ponies you might try a Newfoundland or Conne?

Shetland is closest but will bring your GP down. I've had good luck with Selle x Thoroughbred.

I'm like 100% into appaloosas and paint horses right now. Cross a few paints x SF and paints x shetland. The paint x shetland brought the GP down SO much and it takes too long to blup them. I'm glad I did it thought because now I can cross with strong PH x SF without any issues of them turning into anything other than a PH but still it wasn't so much fun. And because the GP is lower I'm having a hard time selling them.

You can PM me, I have a few 100 BLUP Paint Horse x (SF x Shetland) mares you could run some experiments on default smiley :)

NOW - Does anyone know if we can modify and influence GP with training?

I'm working on a little Lipizanner project andhave been successfully breeding them to Lusitano crosses. Right now I'm at 50.3% Lipp and 49.7% Lusitano so not that much wiggle room left. Right now their 3 best skills are stamina, dressage and gallop. I managed to get the trot gp super close to their stamina, but I am dying to get their 3 best skills to dressage, trot and gallop. I've been using my beach rides to bump up their trot skills (which are now above their stamina skills) but am wondering if I keep adding on to the trot and taking away from stamina, if it will effect their GP in those areas?
