Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Hi, does anyone have any examples of Arabian crosses?

I am mostly interested in seeing what these look like:

Arabian / Criollo

Arabian / Tennessee Walker

Arabian / Lipizzan

I would be interested in seeing any other cool Arabian crosses, especially ones that are good at winning heaps of competitions.

What breeds are great in stamina and speed?
I'm trying to cross with a Lusitano mare for skills, but I'm not sure where to find breed stats, if there is such a thing. Thanks!

I have been breeding Arabian/Barb crosses and they do well in Western pleasure. the barb does not have very high gp right now so the arab gives them a boost mine are up to 8200gp but they are winning 30+ comps not sure if that is high enough for you. im going to continue and try to get them up to 10k gp

My Fjords carry St/Sp/Dress as their top skills. Hard to find a good stud in public sometimes but it's easier than it used to be.

good crosses with lusitanos for western comps? have already done lusitano/nokota and pretty pleased with the result, but interest in other combinations.

Lusi/Vanner, Lusi/Selle, and Lusi/PSH are all fun and not hard to get competitve GPs with.

My Lusi/Vanners usually have either Selle or Nokota in them too. The Selle tends to work out better than the Nokota. Attempting to lean the line away from Vanner as I get frustrated Blupping Vanner dominant bloodlines.

thank you so much avanderloop! i was considering lusi/vanner but blup'ing vanners seems daunting LOL. luci/selle and luci/psh sound like good ideas, i was going to see if i could get a luci/friesian/vanner foal but i'd probably have to do friesian dominant with the vanner cross default smiley :s

actually, i was curious with friesian crosses, i've seen some great friesan/lusi crosses but i was interested if anyones had success with other crosses?

Does anyone have a crossbred drum with another draft horse? Mainly looking for a female but a male would do. If it doesnt belong here tell me as I am new to this posting thing.

there are lots in the sales! just search for draft species and then click the dropdown to find the purity and double click to exclude purebreds

xbred drafts are an interesting thought!

I started into crossbreeding as a way to get all the breeds for the trophies as it's cheaper than the sales. But I have noticed some of those foals are much better than their mothers in comps. Are there any specific breeds that do well for Kerry Bog ponies or Welsh? I would also possibly be interested in Knapstrupper.
Thanks for any advice you can give! I've been here a long time and never really looked into the world of crosses

I myself have only really delved into purebreds but if I ever decide to cross breed, which I probably will, this seems like a really cool forum to check out. One thing I'm interested to know is; does cross breeding increase their ability in competitions? I feel like giving a foal the abilities of two very different breeds could be interesting but I'm not sure how that would work.

What breed would be great to crossbreed with Purebred Spanish Horse?
they're gallopers, definitely tb, some of the highest skilled pshs were psh/tb crosses for a while

quarter horses and appies are also decent!

Is there a breed to cross with TBs that would win a lot of rosettes?

Definitely Appaloosas. You're improving the speed GP of the Thoroughbred while getting the good gallop the TBs have.

This is a TBxAppy cross I bred. It's way outdated now so it won't win rosettes anymore, but it won some at the time. He could have won more but in the time it took me to blup his mom, get a cover for her and then skill him, the top GP of TBs and/or Appies did a huge jump, so he didn't have as long to stay on top of the rankings like I thought he would.

What would be a good cross for curlies? I'm trying to get a high gp rosette monster curly, in western comps.

Also, any tips for Lusi crosses to get wins in western?
Thanks!

Unfortunately, with the oddball skillset and genetic distribution that Curlies have(stamina, trot and speed in that order), and their overall lower GP compared to other horses, you'd have to breed quite a few generations of crosses in order to get the GP up enough to compete with the other breeds in rosette comps.

I calculated the GP you'd get if you bred the #1 T.Walker and Curly together for an estimate (I picked the Walker because the Curly's 4th best skill is dressage, so Western Pleasure seemed like the best target), but with a simple direct cross you'd still only have a stamina GP of 2803, dressage GP of 2173 and trot at 2666. You'd have to breed many generations in order to catch up to the top Western Pleasure horses.

Just a random cross I did for an objective. Not half bad I think.

That is a good cross. If you take suggestions, I say it would be interesting to see how it would turn out breeding it to a Lipizzan. It could end up doing very well in Reining default smiley :)

Twister

A little obsessed with Pasos right now. default smiley :) Here's a cross I bought and surprise! he's a reiner when I'm getting used to thinking of Pasos as Trailers and Cutters. I want to repeat him with a higher GP. Got to figure out how now.
Hiya! I've thus far stuck to purebreds, but I have a Friesian stallion I absolutely love and I want to try playing with his genetics. What do you guys suggest combining with Friesian for western comps?
