Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

What horse or pony is good to cross with a fjord for westen comps?
Criollo, gypsy vanner, or arabian.

Any recommendations on what breed to cross this guy with?

https://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=58847793

Or would you recommend sticking with the breed?

Curlys are underused Western Devils. Mine are taking low level barrels and pleasure. Maybe Crio, Paso, Marwari, Aussies or a Western cross with low % GV? GV dominant has usually frustrated me BLUPing because the Vanners are so competitive but it helps with Gallop and Dressage so I get lucky sometimes with Western Pleasure and Rein for Vanner crosses.

Totally agree that the curlies are great for western! Been winning like crazy!! And that sounds like some good crosses! Thanks !

So question about crossbreeding lineage. How does the breed switching work when you breed down a line?

Like for example I take a pure Quarter horse female and breed with a pure Canadian Male, using a FW for twins, this set should be 50/50 QH/CH but show CH.

Then breeding that set of twins together gets me 50/50 QH/CH but showing QH

breeding this set of 50/50 QH/CH twins gets me QH. Will they switch back to CH at all or if I keep breeding a line like this (twins together after starting with QH female and CH male) will I now always get QH/CH with QH being dominant down the line?

Okay, just a silly question I suppose... Do crossbreeds get ranked? I see the top teams usually get their horses at the top with purebreds but I haven't seen any really high crossbreeds. Is it possible to have the top horse be a cross bred horse?

I may be interested in pursuing a crossbreeding program between Argentinian Crillos and Gypsy Vanners. Anyone doing so now that has any tips?

When the percentages are the same, the breed order listing is random. You could breed the same two parents (such as your purebred QH and pure Canadian example) several times and get 3 foals listed QH x Canadian, then another foal listed
Canadian x QH
Jamie and Claire are full siblings, but their breed order is different. And in Claire's case, her first listed breed is not her dominant breed.

Both Jamie and Claire took Appaloosa as the dominant breed because their parents are 50/50 of different breeds (the parents don't share breeds in their genetics at all), which meant the foals took the sire's second listed breed (which is Appaloosa).

I then bred Claire and Jamie together at least two different times to get Brianna and William. Jamie and Claire share all the same breeds in their genetics, so this time the foal's took the dam's last listed breed, which is Appaloosa. But the breed order for Brianna and William are both different.

LegacyAnn so essentially, by continuing to breed the same sort of pairing (always 50/50 of the same two breeds for both parents) I could get dominant results of either pretty much anywhere down the line because the breed order would be randomly determined (in this case)?

Yep! I think this horse is a better example to your question because it shows a switch in the dominant breed.

She's 50/50(T.Walker x Newfoundland) with her dominant breed being Newfoundland. Her parents are both T.Walker dominant with the sire's order listed Newfie x Walker, and the dam listed Walker x Newfie. The mare's last listed breed was Newfie, which is why the foal took Newfie. If I wanted the foal to be Walker, I actually would have bred the mare's parents again until I got a filly with Walker listed last.

with what bree should i cross my mare, if I want the foal to have as High Stamina and Speed as possible?
Hey guys! It's been a super long time since I've been in the forums or done an on purpose cross.

I'm part of the third place Gypsy Vanner team and we're allowed to offer public coverings from anything under our public GP release. I remember getting coverings from second and third place groups back when I was heavy into cross breeding. I'd like to pay it forward to the community and offer covers from some of the "outdated" but still relevant stock I have!

So if you're looking into testing out a cross with some Vanner blood, shoot me a PM and I'll see if I have anything that is useful to you!

(Mentioning that I am not trying to advertise but just mentioning that I'd love to help people out just like I was helped out in the past.)

Well her skills in decending order are: speed, jumping, dressage, gallop, stamina and then trot, thereforeI'd say showjumping would suit her for classical and cutting for western, although in Dr Zig's forum it explains well in what she may be the best at.

I am trying to breed horses with all of their skills extremely high, (i.e. filling in all their stars plus some) my hope is to get the highest skilled horses in game. I am using a Lusitano mare to breed with, (100 BLUP, 13201 gp and at 15286.76 skills all bolded). What breeds should I try to breed her with for both western and classical comps?
I am trying to stay as far away from thoroughbreds and vanners as possible I don't like their in-game design (petty, I know, but I wanted to use other breeds as much as possibledefault smiley :p)
thanks much!

Strong Reiner or Western Pleasure. You can use a Paso to bring up Trot to improve Trail odds. Theoretically a Paso cross with anything high in St/Dress Except GVs would bring up the Trot without sacrificing much on St/Dres. Going dominant on GV would set her in a field that's hard to compete in.
Trying something out...

obviously she's bred to be decent for gallop, but what could i cross her with later on?
not sure if i want to go PSH or TB, or maybe another 50/50 cross...

maybe something else?
