Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Spinner,

I enjoy playing with Arabian crosses every now and then. I have a few examples you might like having a look at, although these are way out of date by now.

Abstang: Mustang x Arabian - example
Anglo-Arabian: TB x Arabian - example
Arappaloosa: Appaloosa x Arabian - example
Henson Horse: Fjord x (TB x Arabian) - example
Morab: Morgan x Arabian - example
Badlander: Nokota x Arabian/Mustang/QH - example
Pintabian: Paint x Arabian - example
Polo Pony: TB x (Arabian / QH / Criollo) - example 1 - example 2
Pony of the Americas: App x (Shetland x Arabian) - example
Quarab: QH x Arabian - example
Welara: Welsh x Arabian - example

There are still several others I'd like to try but haven't made time for yet. : ) Lots of fun and/or challenging possibilities. I'm not a huge comper, per session and, but enjoy playing for breed board positions. In that sense, Abstang, Arappaoolsas, Nokota Badlands Horse, and Welaras stick well. And then PoA's and Pintabians are just faves of mine b/c I think they're really neat in real life. Who doesn't like a bit of color? default smiley ;)

Was supposed to be "per se" (not session) but silly autocorrect apparently doesn't like Latin phrases ... default smiley (8)

Anyways, hope that helps some. You can at least have a look at their skill splits and see what they were comped in (or not). Polo Pony sort of mixes might be fun for you to play with. I'd be very interested in seeing an Arab x Criollo if/when you have one. Good luck with your crossies! default smiley (l)

Now, I'm not a crossbred breeder normally (though I'd like to try my hand someday, but currently I'd like to focus on my purebred project). With my AP farm, though, I breed all of my mares to the highest GP stud I have available at the moment, so naturally it results in some funky crosses. I produced this little guy this week and his skill set looks very, very similar to that of my Holsteiners. I wonder if a cross like this wouldn't be useful for producing highly-skilled/high-GP Holsts that remain true to form, since the overall quality of the breed is still fairly low due to its rarity? Holsts aren't good for a lot in terms of Grand Prix or rosettes, but I'm very fond of the breed because of how easy they are to work with, so I might experiment with this a bit in the future!
By Retired breeder, 15th March 2019 04:32:16

The skill set is similar because it leans toward the Nokotas which are in my experience Trailers. The Gallop is coming from the QH I think. The Holsteiner mare I'm blupping is an odd ball Western eventer. She's mostly trying Trail with a handful of wins elsewhere.

My Nokota crosses are being difficult in BLUPing, so it may be slow going, but the QH and Nokotas are offering good GPs so that will bring up the Holsteiner's GP. The best GPs I've seen in Holsteiners are in the 9000s.

Have fun! default smiley :)
Can anyone suggest some good selle francais crosses please?

Do you guy think this mare would be better at Western or Classical? Also, what should I cross her with?

@avanderloop - I've found Holsts to be most successful in cross-country, but mine will sometimes pick up wins in gallop and dressage on occasion. I'll have to mess with some noko/quarter crosses in the future to see what ratio works best for my purposes!

Black Bullet's Holsteiners recently surpassed 13000 GP, mine are hovering around 11430 at the moment; Quarter Horses and Nokotas are both well ahead in the GP race, so I can see them serving that purpose well! My Holsts BLUP extremely easily compared to other breeds since they require only one type of ride and their skills are naturally suited to target-trained cross-country, so I should hope that such crosses would be just as easy. Thanks for the advice - I wasn't sure if a 50/50 cross was going to be best!

@Equestrian01 - She could go either way honestly; if Classical, she'd get her wins best in trot/gallop/showjumping; if Western, she'd probably be best in cutting. Maybe try crossing her with a paint if you're wanting to put a little more speed/dressage into her?
Mare is doing decently well in Gallop comps, but isn't at rosette level yet. Should I cross her with a TB to improve gallop or go with a Paint (or other) cross?

Thanks

^^ If you're betting on rosettes, I'd probably go TB, since speed would prime her for barrel racing, and her stamina would make it challenging for her to win there. Good luck!
Is there a TB or Arabian cross that wins rosettes?

A question: If I mixThis Horse with some TB/Marwari cross in order to boost the gallop, would the rest of the things for remain high enough to win rosettes and beat out the competition OR did I just waste some A.tears?

I forgot to say that this^^^ is for reining.

I calculated the stats you'd get if you crossed that horse to a Mar x TB (the Marwari and TB stats I used were the top horses in the sales, so not the top overall) and you'd end up with:
Stamina GP: 2538
Dressage: 2293
Gallop: 2610

Comparing that to one of the top Lipizzans, which is the prix breed for reining, and you're going to be a good bit lower in the dressage area by 1000 points, while you're pretty close in stamina and gallop. So the cross could probably see rosettes, but if you're going against purebred Lipizzans, I'm not sure it will win.

Another option is to breed your foal to a Gypsy x TB cross as you'll get the high dressage you can't get with a Marwari, but still keep a relatively high gallop. The dressage and gallop still won't beat out the top Lipizzans, but I estimate your stamina to be 2747GP which could make up for that? It'll be close.

Please excuse me for drooling. He's amazing!
I don't have any idea what's got higher Stamina than a Vanner right now though. Legacy Ann mentioned that Lipizzans are Prix level Reiners so their Staminas must be good.
Barbs, Connes, Bogs, Canadians, Curlys and Quarter Ponies lean heavily to Stamina but I don't think any of them match up the the high GPs yet.

Best bet, unless you either want to go Vanner again or work one of those others up to par, would prob be a Criollo or an Arabian
here's a corssbred project i worked on and it seems pretty successful!

does anyone have any name ideas for this bad boy? also, if anyone has any tips on how to win rosettes easier? thanks for the help!

I started an Arabian/Gypsy Vanner x Fjord crossbreeding program called W∆R CR¥ and I am looking for a partner. The horses will all rank top ten in fjord stamina (even without tears) And teared will be in the top 100 fjord overall skills.

Mordreds Lullaby is currently 22nd in fjord skills overall and 1st in stamina, 41st in gallop, 34th in jumping, and 33rd in dressage.

When trained Advance Bravely will be 2nd in fjord stamina, and top in the 30 fjord skills overall

My latest fillly born (Wicked Game) will be 10th in fjord skills and 1st in stamina.

And if i could get a better fjord sire (with over 12000gp) i could definatly take over the top ten fjord rankings.
