Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

I bought a GV/Marwari cross to cross with my Marwari/TB stallion. She's been a good Western Pleasure in comps. Just entered her in the Prix so waiting on those results. GV/Marwari might get what you want.

Does anyone know where I could find a list or soemthing of good breeds to pair together? I want to start crossbreeding but have no idea where to start

Figuring out what you want to achieve is the best place to start. I started crossbreeding my drafts (Percheron and Drum) because A) I like drafts and they are efficient resource gathering AP farmers, B) crossbreeding means it will be a long time before I have to worry about the "can't access beginning comps" GP limits, C) they are decently easy to BLUP with reining comps, and D) I specifically pursued my "French Drummer" project (51% Perch/49% Drum) because I prefer the look of the Percheron and wanted it always dominant.

So... what do you want to achieve with your project?

Not necessarily what you're looking for, but it may give you a bit of a start.

Ok I really love this stud. He's a little show jumping/cross country dynamo. I tried crossing him with a Selle for a show jumping offspring and I'm not happy with the result. Suggestions for either a show jumping or cross country off spring?

Not Unlucky

Here's my CC/Jumper. default smiley :) I haven't been able to win a rosette in forever but maybe one of his foals will have a good go.
LoL apparently I am getting old. It has been ages since I could link anything. Ah well.

He's 50/50 Arabian/Selle

Trying to decide if I should go back with an Arabian or if I should bring in a third breed.

If you breed to Arab then you could breed back again to a Selle to preserve the 50/50. I'm inchworming some of my cross-lines that way too.

I think you could also 50/50 a high GP Vanner with a Selle or Arabian and breed that mare to your stallion if you want to increase GP. That might preserve the broader skill set that assists with both CC and Jumping instead of just one. If it leans Selle then I think it'll be a better jumping and the Arab will be a better CC. I can't think of many other breeds I've seen with rosette lvl GPs that enjoy CC. Maybe some of my Lusitano or Paso crosses that started with high dressage. So far some of my TBs are good for Jumping.

I think my most recent cross Wake Up In The Sky is hopefully going to be a good XC comper. I'm planning on breeding him back to his dam Ride Slow to get a GV dominant filly @ about 12370gp to then breed to a purebred Conn (to preserve the breed), which will bring me back to about the same GP i'm at now but better in Stamina skills.

Thoughts? Suggestions?
Funny you should say that.... I have two 50/50 gypsy/Arabian mares coming up. I think you're right and I'll breed my 50/50 selle/Arabian with them and see what happens. In the meantime I may try and duplicate the selle/Arabian success and get a mare too. The trick really is the GP/skills isn't it? As much as I love my little stud he doesn't qualify for rosettes in anything. I'm hoping for better for his offspring

She's full gallop and semi targeted to Dressage. A Knab would preserve the Dressage, improve trot and open up more potential for jumping like the Selle. Some of my TBs are also unexpected jumpers so you might find she likes that too. Should be interesting default smiley :)

A bit of an unexpected cross here.

I think he could make a pretty could CC comper if I bred him to maybe a GV? I almost don't want him to be GV dominant though since they're already so strong in breed comps. Any suggestions? Should I stop at him or find another cross to breed to him with?

You could use the same principle as Miketg might. 50/50 a Vanner with a Selle or a Canadian for a mare and breed her to your stallion. You'll have to figure out which breed you want to end up with and how they do with breed comps.
You also might make a mare Selle/Canadian and breed her to the stallion or inchworm back and forth between Selles and Canadians to increase GP until you have what you want
. I think you will get tied up on the Canadians first. :/
Honestly I don't have the patience to go through everyone and look at everyone's projects right now, lol So those who like to talk, I'ma ask what is everyone working on right now?

I used to be pretty active in this forum a few years ago, and I miss working with all my cross-breeds! Hoping to get back into it soon.

If you can duplicate that breeding or use a Bolt, I would aim to get a filly of that same cross (Canadian x Selle) and then breed her to the top GV covering. That would make that offspring 50% GV and boost the GP significantly. I would then take that foal, a filly, and breed to the top pure Canadian in order to not have a GV dominant foal (62% CH, 25% GV, 13% Selle if my math is correct). Decreasing your Selle genetics will greatly improve Stamina skills as Selles are very good at bringing it down, even in small % of them in the lineage.
I’m excited about this new Colt
