Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Okay guys, I am looking for honest, constructive criticism on the downfalls of the filly I mentioned earlier;
May Matilda

She has excellent Dressage and Jumping but I am yet to determine whether her Stamina is too low to see lower-level XC Rosette comps.
I haven't beached her yet, so I am thinking transferring from Trot to Stamina and see if that improves my chances.

At any rate, if she were yours, what path would you consider? Pursue, or produce a foal with higher Stamina? Maybe a Sire that is predominantly Gypsy but has a dash of Selle/KWPN?

I'm curious why you seem to be stuck on the idea of using a KWPN or Selle for cross-country rosettes default smiley (8) The most important stat in winning cross rosette level races is stamina. KWPN's WORST skill is stamina. The boost to jump/dressage just won't make up for that. Selles aren't much better, tbh. For reliable rosette winners I'd stick with gypsy/arab.

I amn't really the most qualified to give my opinion, but here we go default smiley :)
It's obvious that you are aiming towards a horse which is quite good at cross country. When you breed her, perhaps find a sire that is part gypsy, arabian, & selle?

The reason I might not jump towards a KWPN cross is that they have very statistically low stamina, and are likely not something you want

The reason I might jump towards an arabian/gypsy/selle cross is that the stamina would potentially be brought up. The little bit of selle would help keep the jumping at the same level as stamina and dressage. Maybe look for a sire with these traits?

Just suggestions default smiley ^)

If you'll recall, I bred this pair of Stonewall Sport Horses yesterday, using a purchased 5724 GP Knab stud after I couldn't find the 6019 I'd seen the day before:
Drop Dead Cynical
Gates Of Paradise

6019 showed up today (of course, now that Cynical is halfway done), so bred a new pair. Cynical is about 150 GP below these two, but ended up with higher IBS. default smiley xd The dam was not going to play nice today.

Update! 53/54 classical comps won on this beauty! The one he lost was me putting my other (and better) horse in just to test how far off they were from each other.

Also, blupped this Friesian/Selle beauty yesterday. Now he's the 3rd most skilled Friesian on the game default smiley :) http://www.howrse.com/elevage/chevaux/cheval?id=51290729

PM me if you're also interested in Friesian crosses default smiley ;)
Okay I need some help here. So I covered this mare with a 50/50 selle/trak who's 2nd listed breed was trak... Why am I producing two selle foals? I thought the foals would take the sire's second breed?

Because both the sire and dam are 50/50 of the same two breeds, it takes the dam's second listed breed (selle), not the sire's (trake).

The only reason Matilda has KWPN in her lineage, is because the best available Selle GP in the public coverings was the Selle/KWPN cross, so although the KWPN does let down her Stamina, I think her foal with a Arab/Gypsy or pure Gypsy sire will produce quite an improved comper.

So far though, she hasn't been a complete disappointment.

I would agree, she is really lovely!
I imagine her foals will be great!

I hope you get what you are looking for! default smiley ;)

Sorry for the double post but does anyone have either a Tennessee walker or quarter horse mare??
Or a walker × quarter horse stud?

First foal out of Matilda.
Has lost about 10 points off Jumping, 40 off Dressage but has gained 300 in Stamina compared to her mother.
Matilda had 95 BLUP, sire had 87 so wasn't really the ideal cover, but I was dying to spit out a foal.
I won't proceed with this one, I'll wait until the parents have 100 BLUP and see if I can gain in Stamina but not sacrifice on the other two.
This foal is only a good indication of where Matilda will take me.

I am hesitate to throw Arab or Selle into the mix, as Gpysy's offer a stronger option of Stamina, Dressage, and Jumping genetic potential than an Arab at full BLUPping, and Selles really excel in Jumping followed at quite a distance by Dressage.

And after further investigation, I don't think KWPN was too much of a hindrance other than bringing down Stamina, which is not offered by the Selle breed either. The KWPN breed's top two skills are Dressage then Jumping, whereas a Selle is Jumping, Speed, and then Dressage.

This genetics thing is very deeply involved and sadly I don't always get a solid opportunity to explore it further.

I just reread your comment.
I see what you mean now.

My idea was, because Selles/KWPNs have such high Dressage and Jumping, whereas the Gypsys don't, I thought I could throw in a touch of their skills as well as boost the Stamina predominantly with the Gypsy breed.

Also, I was under the impression that although Stamina was important, the Dressage and Jumping were calculated equally, not as (for example) 50% determined by Stamina, 30% determined by Dressage, and 20% Jumping. So my theory was to balance all three as equally as possible, at the lower-level Rosette comps but with maximum skills for that bracket, so as I wasn't trying to compete in say a 2000-4000 bracket with a 2002 skilled horse, against 3999 skilled horses, if that makes sense?
By Retired breeder, 24th February 2017 14:21:17
The skills for winning comps are not weighted equally, that is the thing. For cross, the skills are weighted:

50% stamina
30% dressage
20% jump

(those percentages may be off by 5 percent or so, but the idea is there)

In other words, stamina is the most important skill. You will be competing against arabs and gypsies with stamina 2800+, even if you're entering the low level rosettes.
Ok, my memory is not coming out. If I have two 50/50 crosses with NO shared breeds, what breed with the foal end up being?

If it's an even cross with different breeds, then that's when the foal will take the sire's second listed breed.

I just decided to give crossbreeding a try to shake things up but realized I don't know very much about what breed the crosses will be when it gets more complicated than 50/50. Does anyone know what breed the foal would be if these two were crossed:

shetland/selle
KWPN/Shetland/Selle

Also, does anyone knows an interesting direction these two, Gypsy/Selle and KWPN/Selle can be taken?

I clearly have no idea where I'm going with this default smiley xd
