Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

A foal's GP is roughly the average of the parents. What I do for crosses where I'm using more than 2 breeds is to set up a spread sheet (you can do it by hand if you prefer of course) to calculate a foal from the first two parents, then do the calculation of that foal with the second breed.

In your case pick the Mustang and Thoroughbred you want to breed. Calculate the average of each of their genetics (so the average of their speed, stamina etc.) and that will be foal A. Now, pick the Gypsy Vanner you want to use and calculate the average of the Gypsy and Foal A. That will give you Foal B, your final foal.

I believe for that cross, the foal takes the second breed listed on the dam's side. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

For two different 50/50 crosses, the foal would take the breed that is second on the sire's side.

The start of a long awaited project.

Ooops, let's try that link again..

New toy!
I think it's the sire's side.
For example, I know that I have to bolt a filly I just produced if I want the offspring from that foal and another foal to be a Trakehner and not a Selle.

No no western, it's the second listed on dam's side.

For example, my first Fry/Selle is Shimmer then Decay. Now Shimmer's second listed breed is Selle. If I bred her to another Fry/Selle, I would get Selle dominant foals.

Now my first Fry/Selle that has the correct breed order is Dark on Me. Dark has Friesian listed second in her genetics tab. So if I were to breed her to my other Fry/Selle, I know I'm looking at a Friesian dominant foal.

Do you remember my Appy/Selle crosses? This is precisely how I determined which foals to breed and which to skill.

So if the original question was using an Arab/TB, Arabian would need to be listed second on the dam's side to produce an Araabian dominant foal. TB listed second for a Thoroughbred dominant.

That's what I thought! I just wanted to make sure. default smiley (y)

I have found that Fresian x KWPN makes a good low level XC comper. Not so sure for high level, though.

So the cross below would result in a Freisian dominant foal?

AVH Lover - Yes, the resulting foal would be Friesian dominant.

So I bred Dark on Me to Hotter than Hades (Fry/Selle crosses) today. Got a beautiful filly but she has the wrong breed order default smiley :( Anyone want her? If not, I might end up skilling her to see how she does.
I may be interested--got a link?

What are the best western breeds? I will cross thoroughbred x mustang.... Anything else for barrel racing or cutting?

Marwari × mustang is the best for that, if I remember right!

Haven't shared many of my creations recently but i've just bed a couple out of my Gypsy mare..

B With You - Gypsy x KWPN x Selle, I bred her so I could use her for breeding and hopefully produce some nice 5 breed foals.

New Teke baby - hopefully my first 10k+ skill Teke..

Now to just find the aging points default smiley (8)

Hello, new to this forum post...

I would love to hear everyone's suggestions, opinions, personal trials, etc.. on what breed crosses make the best Reining competitors. Thank you in advance!
I know I don't post here often, as I'm more of a purebred person, but I had a little mishap, and I was just going to ask on what to do!

I normally breed Argentinean Criollos, and they are purebred, except for the crosses of Criollo and KWPN I breed.

So, I was trying to breed a purebred Criollo, and I was so caught up in the genetics and skill level, I didn't even see the that it wasn't a purebred.

Now I have a Selle X Criollo sitting on my hands, and I was wondering what would be the best way to go around and breed her. Any feedback helps!

Well, the horses that have reining skills (gallop, dressage, stamina) as their top three are Haflingers, Irish Hunters, and Lippizans, so that may be a good place to start!
