Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

(To go along with my other post,) does anyone know the top cross-country horse breeds? I know Arab/Akhal are top, but that's about it. I've tried to go and look at the comps and horse ranking, but I've had trouble finding anything useful. Thanks for your help!

Gypsies are the current Prix winning breed I think.
If you look in the horse directories you can view the skill sets of each breed. Make note of which horses have stamina, dressage and jump as their top 3 skills and those are the cross country horses

I've been hiding out in my own personal void on Howrse for a bit not, so thought I should give an update on my crossbreeding. i'm focusing on basically real breed crosses with a couple tossed in just for kicks. I think, I'm up to 18 or so different crosses and two mongrels.

My AraAppaloosa line is going well got five in the top 10 for stamina on the Appy board. I will not bore you with a listing of those.

One of my favorites is this girl

Miss Plaudit ♀

She is Appy x TB x Arab to mimic the breed's open stud book. She stands with a GP of 7588.03

I have a few warmblood breeds in the works (none being worked on quickly):

Irish Draught = Irish Hunter x TB x Vanner (I'm hoping for a a decent all rounder)
Budyonny: Don x TB (most likely will be Eventing)
Gypsy Arabians: Vanner x Arab
Zangersheide: Any mongrel crosses warmblood

These are my next two serious eventing/breeding projects

Appendix (QH x TB): Duplicate Check ♂

Nez Perce (Appy x Teke): Suki Ⓕ ♀
Here's my latest cross. Not great but then, neither is the mare. I think I'm almost done with her. She's bred to a Trake, and then I think all that's left is Welsh, Don, and...Morgan?

I am experimenting with some crossbreeding and I was wondering if there is any way I can eliminate a skill (dressage) down the line. Would I need to breed to a horse that doesn't have dressage as it's top three to eliminate that skill?
Please PM me if you can give me any advice haha. I'm really failing at this crossbreeding thing. default smiley xd
Thank you,

Depends on what you mean by "eliminate." There is an automatic GP increase, so you can't breed for lower GP. If you want that as the worst (lowest) skill, then you would breed to horses with low dressage GP.

Sorry guys, but I have a little 'proud mama' moment heredefault smiley xd Today I bred my first 10,000+skiller, and after tommorow's daily update, he'll rank the second highest Akhal-teke skiller! He's an Akhal-teke and Selle crossdefault smiley :d So excited!

Thank you so much princ3ss!
I did the same thingdefault smiley :( I had 18 passes left over, and what did I do...I tried to get Earth and didn't have any luck. Got tons of Hera Packs though, but now I need 2 more passes for a cloud pack lol

It's been a good day though, I finished everything ahead of schedule so I'm just working on art.

Got a Trake/QH due next week I'm kinda excited about. Won't be exceptional in GP but maybe someday something will really surprise me. I have hope.

lol we are in the same predicament! I killed off a pass horse and got lucky to get another pass. But I'm already past my 10 for the month, so getting another 3 could prove to be expensive. Oh well, my pony will earn the money back

Proud of all my little foals lately...they've been turning out better and better default smiley ;)
My first Gypsy/KWPN mix
Arab/KWPN mix
Another Arab/KWPN
And all these foals thanks to my lovely PB KWPN, Eloquence in Action!
Hot tip: When cross-breeding, (especially half and half) find a high-skilled dam to get you started default smiley ;) The investments worth it, I promise! I payed good money for her (she is a RC, after all) and it's made all the difference!

X Pretty sure this guy is gonna have all his wins tomorrow. Yay! All I have left is wins and rides and he will be done.

X Then I had bought this Stamina TB guy. Hoping to make him into something. Most likely SJ...

Howrse doesn't use realistic genetics, it selects a percentage randomly... it's really luck of the draw when it comes to having rare colored foals. The dam may have a rare coat, but really, and baby can have any colored fur! default smiley (y)
Goodness it's been so long. How's everyone doing?

Also, question, is anyone doing Pintabians and do you have one that you do not need? I love the Pintabian horse, and so I'm planning to start working with them.

As per request of an old friend, I've revised an affix dedicated to Newfoundland Ponies. So what would get me a decent cross out of them? Since I have no real plan at the moment..
wildwild what I meant was that she had a RETIRED coat. Just made me all the more happy in my investment, since she is also high-skilled. Sorry for the confusion default smiley ;)
