Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

You post examples like this weekly. You should reread over the last answers you have received. This forum is to help players learn how to do their own work, not make others do it for you.

I am sorry that I don't understand on how Cross Breeding works

First, the greatest percentage of a breed is always most important.
If a horse is 70% Quarter Horse, and less than 30% of other breeds, for example, the horse would definitely be a Quarter Horse.

Secondly, if two purebreds of different breeds are crossed, it will take over the stallion's breed.

In any other case, I believe it will take over the breed of the stallion's father, but I'm not entirely sure on that one.

Yesterday finally marked the completion of a months long project. After I bred my first horse with 1000+GP in all 6 genetics back in August I wanted to breed 5 more horses with 1000GP in each genetic, but have them each specialize in a different skill. Unfortunately, the stats available at the time gave me dressage as the best for most of my horses, but the second skill does differ.

Aug 15 2016: Jamie Fraser
Oct. 13 2016: Dragonfly In Amber (stamina foal).
Oct. 29 2016: Drums of Autumn (gallop foal)
Dec. 13 2016: Voyager (trot foal)
Jan. 2 2017: The Fiery Cross (speed foal)
Jan. 15 2017: BreathofSnow&Ashes (jump foal)

Not sure what my next project is. I spent all last year working on this project and my all breed one. I'm project-less for the momentdefault smiley (lol)

I would just like to brag for a second, the colt that I posted on here a few days ago, American Money, is the 2nd best Chincoteauge Pony in the game, beaten only by 30 skills points by the top Chincoteague. He is also the second Chincoteague ever to have over 10,000 in skills.
I am so psyched!

Hello default smiley :) New to crossbreeding on this server, not to Howrse however. Hoping to find a little niche here in the crossbreeding forum and this 'section' of the game. I bred this little guy just for fun, but I'm not sure what to comp him in when I get there, any suggestions?

Here he is

Hi everyone! Does anyone know of a good cross for Highland Ponies?? (Top three skills are Stamina, Speed, Jumping) I've been looking, but so far, have come up empty!default smiley :(

Just an odd question, has anyone tried to make crosses so all you have a grand prix comper for each contest, but they all have the same dominant breed?

It really depends on what you want to breed for. Are you looking to improve those skills or are you looking to make an all-rounder or something else?

I'm pretty pleased with my AraAppaloosas right now, did some breedings and came out with second and third top Appaloosa's in stamina

2nd: Brenda f
3rd: Daryush m

I've bred Brenda back to Dary and see what the results will be

In the meantime, I'm eagerly awaiting the 19th so I can stick Nyx Packs on these twin ApQHs and get too work on them.

@ Baranduin Brewster, how did you get your mare, Amara f, an overall Appaloosa breed but Arab is the first 50% and the Appaloosa is the 2nd 50%?
@Cyndi Lauper, it's not uncommon. I have quite a few crosses with an even number of breeds where the dominant breed is not listed first. I asked contact us about awhile back, and,was told breed order is random if they all have the same percentage.

If it were me, I'd train up speed and maybe a little dressage if I have time (I would stop short so I could do rookie comps, but again that's just me) then I'd enter gallop and jump comps. I'd go back then and train gallop and jump after I'm done with comps. I can send you a full BLUP schedule of what I'd do if you'd like, just shoot me a pm.

It all depends on what you want! (skills are in no particular order for all below by the way)

You could breed to any jumping or cross country (jump, dressage, and speed or stamina) breed and get a XC/Jump horse (if it were me, I'd do morgan or KWPN to get that little extra dressage boost)

If you want a more all-around classical horse, I'd cross with a speed/dressage/gallop breed.

If you'd like to go more on the western side, I'd recommend either a stamina/dressage/gallop breed or a stamina/speed/gallop breed

If you REALLY want to make it interesting, you could cross with a Lusitano, which has the complete opposite skill set. (Or a Nokota or Knab, which is close to opposite).

It will take the mother's second listed breed if two 50/50's of the same breeds (in this case, Arab/Appy) are crossed.
By Retired breeder, 18th January 2017 09:56:53

Well that explains that I had wondered about that myself...my ApQHs does the same thing

I'm new to crossbreeding and juts recently started a AraAppaloosa project too. default smiley :) I do have a few questions on determining breed with 50/50 crosses.

I have two fillies both from pure bred parents, but one has Arab listed first and the other has Appaloosa listed first. If I were to breed these two to 50/50 crosses, what would be the best way to determine the breed of their foal?

All my 50/50 crosses have taken the father's second breed. I tried to breed another Trake the other day and it came out Gypsy (the father's second breed; the mother's was Trake).

I should add that they are two 50/50 crosses being bred together. Sorry, it was a long night.

Did they have the same breeds in their genetics? If they have the same breeds listed, such as two horses that are Selle and Appaloosa then it will be the dam's last listed breed. I say last listed, because in 4 way crosses it takes the last breed. In a 50/50 cross it does take the dam's second listed, but it's also the last listed.
Like this foal here She came out Appy, as her dam has Selle listed first, then Appy. The sire has Appy listed first, then Selle

If the breeds are not the same, then it will take the sire's second listed breed.

Thank you for clearing that up! They are two different 50/50 crosses. I keep seeing people say the horses will take the dam's second breed (I think they said it with two diff 50/50) so I keep getting confused.
