Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

I crossed an Arabian, Selle Francis, and Gypsy Vanner cross with a purebred Arabian to produce Hopelessly Devoted. I'm pretty pleased with how she turned out. I intend to use her in cross country competitions and get some more foals out of her once she's Blupped. Her Stamina, Dressage, and Jumping is pretty solid.
So for my project, anybody have a lusi mare I can get a foal from??

Does the lusi have to be crossbred?
Any specifications?

Sorry, I mean pure or cross! default smiley :)

Has anyone experimented with crossing a Marwari with a TB?
Their strong aspects are both gallop and speed so they would make for excellent racing horses (both barrel and gallop), and with the TBs increased skill in jumping and dressage possibly a nice cross country competitor.

Also, if you were to breed two purebreds together to get a 50/50 foal, how do you know which breed the offspring will take?
By Retired breeder, 21st February 2017 00:03:17
It will most likely take the sire's breed.

I thought I had a 50/50 somewhere, but I just found this guy here. I had a Gypsy x TB that I then bred to a purebred Marwari. In a 50/50 cross the foal will take the breed of the sire's.

Looks like if you did a direct TB x Marwari cross you'd have a dressage, speed, stamina skill set (with gallop coming pretty close to stamina), but an under 1000GP trot and jump. That was using a top 10 Marwari and TB as an example.

@Legacy Ann

Hmm, maybe I overestimated the success of a Marwari x TB cross. Do you know of any crosses with a purebred Marwari that would make a competition bombshell? Perhaps a QH or Arabian?
I have to correct myself first. A Marwari x TB foal would have gallop, speed and dressage/stamina skill set. I input the the TB's dressage genetic in the gallop place so gallop looked like it would only be 1300 when it would be 1900+default smiley (lol).

Even with my error that cross wouldn't be bad at all. You could go a couple ways with it such as a really nice Marwari dominant gallop horse, or a decent reiner. There probably aren't very many Marwari only show jumping comps, but if there were it would possibly dominate those since it would have higher speed, dressage and jump than a purebred Marwari, depending on the GP of the parents you use

I have a Freisian x Gypsy Vanner that has many, many wins in Western Pleasure. My Darkest Hours was out of a Gypsy mare and Friesian stallion. I trained his top three to 600 and entered any competitions with his top skills. Once he had his skills earned, I entered a bunch of Western Pleasure competitions. Just a side note, Friesian crosses are typically only good in breed-only competitions if they are Friesian dominant.

Thanks to all of you! I'm debating between a Fry/Gyp and a Teke/Gyp. I might just do both! All of your horses look great though!

Well, I'm quite happy with how these girls came out. Only 5 points off of max IBS on the first try.

I just put the mare in sales. I did breed a Friesian/Selle the other day as the mare for a project I'm working on, and I have a spare Fry/Selle who's slightly lower GP than that one (just needs rides finished) if you PM me.

Rosettes.

I have difficulty keeping up with the GP race, and I tend to have frequent long absences from the game, but I would like to be able to return and competitively produce rosette winners in a brief period of time (resources are no issue, aside from passes).

I love my crossbreeds, I think they endure time better than those pure, so I am looking for a Band-Aid solution to the quick rosette wins without the hassle.

Does anyone have a formula for their rosette crosses?

I still have the table comparing breeds/values/top skills too, if anyone is interested, in my forum. But there's nothing that really jumps out at me.

In other news, I'll keep you posted on my new Filly.
Hoping she has a slight advantage in the XC field, but I won't know until I have some more time to spend on her tonight.
By Retired breeder, 22nd February 2017 05:49:01

Here's what I'd try for XC, gallop, and SJ.

XC - Arab/Gypsy, both have high GP releases, both are set for XC and win rosettes. #2 Arab team is crossbreeder friendly, but not sure if that would apply to covering a Gypsy. Would do best to make it Arab dominant and see if there's breed only rosettes

Gallop - QH/TB. You sacrifice speed a bit, but they make great gallop horses when skilled properly. Risen is working out our crossbreeding terms, so higher QHs may become available in the future for this

SJ - KWPN/Selle. Will up dressage and lower speed a bit until they're almost even without really sacrificing jumping ability. I would try 50/50 or 75 Selle/25 KWPN

Yeah fantastic. I'll have a play around tonight with them, I figured if I can't compete with GP I might as well try to shortcut.

*up in sales a few weeks ago, he was only 50k. I guess the 99 and 1 made it a cross and nobody wanted him. I skilled him up myself, and look what he turned out to be.

(Also sorry for the double post. I meant to hit preview default smiley xd)

Really appreciating how my Friesian cross turned out default smiley ^)

Switched him from Western to Classical and out of the 29 comps he's done, hasn't lost a single one!

PM me if you'd like covers from him, 500e only.

Does anyone happen to have a purebred Knab stud? I'm BLUPing a 5700 GP one, but was hoping someone had something higher. Need a couple covers for my Fry/Selle.
I told myself if my instructor thought I was ready to start cantering in my lesson today, that'd I'd blup my Gypsy filly and breed a cross. So I'm off to breed something, we'll see when I figure it out default smiley (lol).

Well, I have my Stonewall Sport Horse (Knab x Friesian Sport Horse (Fry/Selle)) pair. Filly was only 1 point off max IBS.

I also have an Azteca (PSH/QH) and Iberian Warmblood (PSH/TB) pair and will be Bolting one of the TB Sport Horses (not officially a breed, but pretty much what it is) to potentially do a line of those on the side.

They look great KR!

I bred Dorian in between researching for my Human Security paper (default smiley :s). I'm thinking about breeding his dam to possibly a TB. I'm not sure.
