Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Sorry, I only enter a few years at a time to not totally clog the comps. Otherwise he would be about 50 already and no comps open

Hello ^_^

I'm fairly new to crossbreeding. If you cross two purebreds, is the foal not supposed to take the dams breed? For instance, I just crossed a PSH sire and a PP dam but the foal turned out to be a PSH. Wasn't it supposed to be PP dominant?
^^ in a cross of 2 purebreds, the foal is the breed of the father.

Wow I love those combos - very very nice!
The stud has some interesting skills as well. Given a little tweak I think that might be something I can use to cross something else... maybe

Can someone please explain IBS skill gain to me again, and how to assess whether or not it was a + or - gain (and any other ins-and-outs of it to consider when breeding).

Thanks.

So how does;
- GP gain
- Skills of the parents
- Parental BLUP

Come into question? Does each of the above affect only IBS or GP gain, or both?

Skills of the parents have no effect at all on the foal. Only GP and Blup do.

The formula Horsebabe91 posted relies on your horse having 100 Blup. I can't remember what the calculation is if you're not using 100 blup, but if I'm going for good IBS I never breed with less than 100 blup anyway so I don't bother remembering that one.

Most of the time I'm too lazy to bother calculating the IBS for myself so I use the handy-dandy Howrse Calculator to do it for me. You can check off whether you're using Tears or not.

Just out of curiosity; does anyone have a crossbreed where they have attempted to breed all horse types together?

A few players have.
United As One is my all-breed horse that I bred last year.

It's a fun project if you ever want to try it sometime!

Just produced this little beauty.
I'm working on Knabstrupper dominant cross breeds. Going to start breeding them together and slowly raising their Gp.
By Retired breeder, 9th March 2017 02:22:43

I had stolen Legacy Ann's idea and did it myself, but I didn't put anywhere near the effort into it and I ended up with this horse called Duchess. She's not super magnificent and competitions are a struggle, so she's more of a personal ornament than any significant achievement.

Also, above @Legacy Ann and @Horsebabe91 I do thank you both for your help. I had a brain fade moment yesterday and confused myself, but it all makes sense now, thankyou.

Actually, forgive me, as I have three. You can see them here.

They each have 44 light horse and pony breeds, as you cannot mix Donkeys/Drafts/Ponies and Horses together of course.
If there are any new breeds to come out they will be covered over and new generations will appear to include them all. I might even inspire myself to remix some breeds into them and see if I can turn out a true competition all rounder. But again, that would take another few generations and a resource of aging points I don't have.

Good week for my Friesian/Arab crosses. I'm trying them out in both Classical and Western and seeing which one they do better in. So far, there isn't a clear answer!

I did this fella yesterday in classical, who topped my other horse for 1st place in Friesian stamina and 9th overall for skills -

http://www.howrse.com/elevage/chevaux/cheval?id=51543417

I did her today in Western, she should soon displace the current 7th place Friesian (who is my horse too!) in skills, and displace my boy from yesterday in Stamina -

Pretty impressed with how versatile this cross is! Looking for ideas of how to cover her, so if you have any eligible crossbred studs you'd like to try with her, shoot me a PM. default smiley ;)
I'm pretty impressed so far with how [url=http://www.howrse.com/elevage/chevaux/cheval?id=51542968] In the eyes of many[url/] has turned out. He seems to be doing pretty good so far in the rankings for the pbh. default smiley ^)

Can someone tell me which horses are the best at trot? I'm hoping to breed with my half Selle Francais to improve the trot skill. Will this actually work?
