Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

If I breed a 98% Cross with another 98% cross of same dominant breed, will the foal be the same breed as the parents?

I believe so yes.

When Crossbreeding is the Stallions breed always dominant no matter what other breeds the mare is crossed with?
horseluvr2

It depends.. If the stallion is a purebred then yes his breed will be dominant. However if both horses are cross breds if i remember correctly the foal will take after the dam's second breed that's listed.

There are a few rules that apply depending on the parent's genetics.

If both parents are purebred then the foal will take the sire's breed.
If both parents are even crosses (two 50/50 crosses or two 25/25/25/25 crosses) of *different* breeds then the foal will take the sire's second listed breed.
If both parents are even crosses of the *same* breeds then the foal will take the dam's last listed breed.
If the parents aren't even crosses then the breed with the highest percentage is dominant, so you can add the breeds of the parent's together and divide by 2 (say the dam is 100% Chinco Pony and the sire is 50% KWPN, 25%Appy and 25% Paint, the offspring will be 50% Chinco, 25% KWPN, 12.5% Appy and 12.5% Paint.)

Then you'll get a cross breed foal like this thing that still stumps me on why it turned out the way it did. I assumed it was because the two highest breeds were the same amount so it took the sire's breed. I Bolted the parents as a test and the foal still turned out Quarter Horse. I'm wondering it's just due to the rounding system and there are a few numbers beyond the decimal we can't see.

Skilled up this beauty today. Will be skilling the twin tomorrow. Will be #1 QH, #14 stamina, #3 speed, and #1 jumping (by a lot).
OH ok I get it now thank you so much for clearing that up for me I was very confused haha!

Two new fillies!! Luckily both of these girls have Trak listed as their second breed, so they both will produce Trak babies! Can't wait to skill them up!

So I splurged using my once a month pass and some equus and got a pass mare... Well she ended up throwing this colt among some other foals, but I'm especially proud of this little colt! I have never had a mare have a 1% coat foal without the help of a Hera Pack!

Not amazing, but Morgans are not that high in the publics. I think I only have 2 more breeds to breed this mare to. Don and Hunter. default smiley :d

It's been a while since I have bred anything, but since I'm on Spring Break, I decided to play around.

Peruvian Paso - Selle Français twins (not sure what I was going for here...)
Skylar
Dove

KWPN - Selle Français colt
Otis

If anyone wants a cheap KWPN cover, I have a nice stallion (8038.53 GP) here

Decide to work up a few new pretties for some of the fantastic GAs I've seen

American Saddlebreds (Morgan dom. x Thoroughbred x Standardbred)

Spelling Bee ♂ worked waiting for events to run
Sea Princess ♀ not fully worked yet, messed up when boarding her

National Show Horses (Arabian x Saddlebred)

Black Sundae ♂ again waiting for events, just finished him today
Midnite Serenada ♀ She should be finished by Monday
Does anyone have a high GP western pleasure cross stud? The best stat foal I can get currently from public covers is by crossing my purebred Friesian with a Paso which will give me about:
stamina 1306
Dressage 1602
Trot 1719

which isn't too bad as this will be for my EC comp, though I'm losing 200 in dressage and giving that to trot basically, but if someone had a Pleasure cross stud with better distributed stats than a Paso I could look at I might be able to breed something a little better. default smiley :)

What exactly is a W. P. horse? Best that I have would be my pure Gypsies. I get half their wins in W.P. but dunno if that counts?

They tend to have low trot (952 in skill, 750 in gp on my best stud), but stam. is roughly 2053.23 in gp and 2918.53 in skill.

I was gifted a teared Crio filly, woo! She has a twin sister if anyone's dabbling in Crio crosses.

@keepsake, I was looking for a horse with a good western pleasure skill set (stamina, dressage, and trot) to boost my W.P competition so a Gypsy wouldn't have had the trot genetics I needed. I went with a Paso stallion I stumbled upon later that had higher GP than one I had calculated with earlier. Grant it, the Paso doesn't have a pleasure skill set either, and the foal has lower stamina and dressage than her Friesian dam, but I got higher trot so I'm hoping it will work for what I'm using it for.default smiley 8-)

So umm this happened today... Filly

The mother was 100% hano and the father was 99% gypsy vanner and 1% selle. So it makes sense that the selle was canceled out but now I'm confused. Is she considered a cross bred even though she isn't a 50/50 cross? default smiley (o)

I always thought cross breeds were horses that were 50/50 of two breeds and horses that had more than two breeds were mixed not crossed.

On here, anything that is not strictly 100% purebred is considered a cross, regardless of the percentages or number of breeds.
