Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

Edit by pixiesbite

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

I have a bunch of teared Mustang/GV and Paint/GV crosses default smiley (lol) since I blupped Sedna I'm probably going to sell them and hope that somebody does something with them. On another note, considering a paso/walker cross to breed with Sedna?

i've always had a soft spot for cross breed horses, but when i was online back in the day if i remember rightly not a lot of people favoured them. i've recently come back and this thread actually made me smile! default smiley (l)

So many Rosettes ! default smiley (7)
Is there a way to make "primary" and "secondary" breed searches? In sales or covers? I know we can search non-purebred, but it's kind of a bummer to sit there and try to flip through all those results when you know exactly what you're looking for. default smiley :s

No there isn't unfortunately. Which is why I prefer to breed my own crosses when I need something specific. Or I check with friends to see if they may have what I need.

Bought a KWPN in the sales to play around with and see what I could breed up for future project bases. These are the first two play thingys.

I just bred https://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=54398484 this filly. All but one skill is 200+ and her main skills are 300. This is when she is only a few hours old too
Yea, just checking. I sent Howrse a note about it. Would love to be able to search a secondary breed too. I think it would also help us more easily find other crossbreeders with similar interests. Would be a big help to our crosser community. default smiley (l)

I second this! It is so annoying looking for, let's say a TB cross with no GV, and sifting through tons of TBxGV.

Anyone know what's good to mix with Vanners for Cross country comps and does anyone have a stallion that can cover one of my vanner mares with high skills for Cross Country? Please PM me if you do and we can discuss it there
By Retired breeder, 30th November 2017 20:50:14
I have Aglow Anglo Arabs.
By Retired breeder, 30th November 2017 22:45:30
Arrohart, I have a GV colt with the Genetic Total: 10122.86
get a look at him and tell me what u think,
By Retired breeder, 30th November 2017 23:06:24
Actually I have two GV colts u should look at default smiley :)

Granted, it is not a cross for XC, but here is a lovely cross.

I have a Fresian x GV that is amazing at breed only WP. He also does moderately well in Barrel Racing and really well at Reining.

The only problem is, what are you looking for? If you are looking for a comp monster, you are heading in the wrong direction. For example, my Fri x GV has over 150 WP wins, and still wins almost all now at 7300 GP, but he does not have high Trot.

The main skills for WP are as follow: Trot, Stamina, and Dressage. The Fri cross's main skills are: Dressage, Stamina, Jumping.

This makes him a good WP horse.

However, this would also make him a good XC horse if one was looking for a high difficulty comp horse.

In cross breeding, it all depends on how you look at it. Also, if you do want a GV mix that is good in XC, I would not recommend looking for a breed whose skills fit perfectly with the comp. That makes it super difficult to compete, blup, everything really.

GV's by themselves excel at Cross Country. So trying to find a GV cross that is better than the pures will be hard. I would actually look at making another breed better at CC comps by using the GV as your secondary breed. Like using them to better a Russian Don, which also excels at CC comps but is considerably lower in GP.

I've been mixing GV with thoroughbreds, Lustino, and Paso horses. I don't seem to be having any luck though. I have some decent GP horses, but it takes forever to get wins with them. Some of them are even able to compete in Rosette comps, but hardly win the easy ones. All my crosses that I am working on are in A.K&G.K specials (or superstars)

If you’re looking for a comp monster, Vanner x Nokotas pair nicely for low level XC. I did one a while back (With A Vengeance) that turned out really nice, however that was something like 4 years ago before Vanners exploded so you’d have better luck in breed only making it Noko-dom.
