Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

You'd just have to use a mare with the last listed breed as the one you'd want it to be. So you could Bolt this horse to a stallion, then keep breeding the two parents you already have until you get a mare with the last listed breed as the one you want. The listed breed order is random when all the genetics are even like that, so the odds are good that the next foal will have a different order than the foal you currently have. If you want to save a Bolt, you can just keep breeding until you get a filly and colt you want to use.

I was wondering if you crossbreed, is it possible to get the horse's future generations to be purebred?

It'll get as close as 99% and 1%, but never completely pure. default smiley :)

As so many promotions have objective's that require horses winning competitions I want to create a horse that has the best chance of winning a competition and fairly quickly ...

Maybe Cross-Country competitions?

Not sure what breeds to use though default smiley :o

I tend to use a cross in which it makes the dominant breed have supporting skills better than it purebred counterpart.

I often mention Gypsy Vanner dominant crosses that have high speed skills. Purebreds have low speed, and there are many breed only Gyspy Vanner comps, so you stand a good chance of winning breed only Gypsy comps if you have a Gypsy cross with high speed.
Like this one here.

You sort of need to do research into which breeds have lots of breed only comps with various levels of difficulty and then what type of crosses can improve on the purebred's skill.

I think I might try PBSH x Arab, then cross the resulting foal with a Gypsy sire
For Barrel Racing, this is my most successful crossbreed! I bred her back in July, but even then she still wins a lot of barrel racing competitions (not nearly as much since I first bred her due to higher GP horses being bred by other players over time) in the paint horse category. I mostly use her now to win completions if I need to fulfill an objective for events, since I do not have a Philosopher's Stone for her (yet).

Eurielle

For Reining, this is my most successful crossbreed I've had. She is the offspring of my previously mentioned paint horse. She was much more successful winning competitions than her dam! She is "retired" now, since I do not have a Philosopher's Stone for her and she is over 25 yrs old.

I have only just started crossbreeding Fjords. Does anybody have any tips? And what are the benefits of crossbreeding, in general? (feel free to pm me as well as answer here, as unfortunately, I don't always see the replies here.)

Y'all I am breeding Irish Sport Horses now, if anyone wants to join me. The requirements to be considered an Irish Sport Horse is that they must be at least 50% Irish Hunter, and no less than 15% TB. As of now we are not incorporating any other breeds.

Hello! I'm new in the cross-breeding idea and currently, I'm focusing on breeding Appaloosa cross-breeds. The majority of my current Appaloosas excell at Speed, Gallop and Dressage.

Recently, I've bred a mare with a Gypsy Vanner and the resulting foal, Orbiting Mischief excells in Stamina, dressage, jumping and gallop. What kind of competitions would she fit?

Also, what other breeds do you suggest for cross-breeding with Appaloosa horses?

Thank you in advance! default smiley :d

Can anyone help me figure out what classification I should put Demons(sk) in? So far he is in English, but I want to make sure that's the right way to go or should he be moved to western?

I have a fairly high GP Gyspy Vanner, and I want to try crossbreeding. I'd like for the foal to do good in all comps... I was thinking a breed with the opposite skill set (Speed, gallop, trot) Lustiano's seem to be a good option. Thoroughbreds could also work if I could find one with a good trot.

Here's my GV: https://www.howrse.com/elevage/chevaux/cheval?id=54103355

What do you guys think?

Hello!

I'm looking at getting into crossbreeding for the first time, and I'm wanting a cross that would do really well in dressage and win rosettes, but I don't know what cross would be best. I'm not entirely sure how I should start, or how I should go about it because obviously there are a lot of things I do not yet know!

Thank you ^-^

I would just recommend two breeds with dressage as their highest skill, and the other skills required for dressage (I think it's speed and jumping? not 100% sure) their next best two skills. Of course, it doesn't have to be exact. You can go to the directories and look through the different breeds (go to the page of each breed, scroll down, and see which skills are highest) until you find some breeds that generally fits that description. Then buy/ use if you already have good horses of those breeds. You should get a foal that will do very well in dressage.

Five new crossbred babies! None of them are super high GP, but that's okay. I have this weird obsession with Russian Dons right now haha? They make pretty good horses to cross with, and it's fun trying to get the foals to have a new skill set!

Trak x GV pair
Morsan, Natari

Selle x Don
Calrin
I'm breeding another one of these (hopefully it'll be a girl so I don't have to bolt)

Latvian (Hano x Holstein) twins
Arice
I only linked one twin because I felt like two would just be redundant since they're the same

My first crossbreed mare! PBSH x Mustang - Gallop is the competition she seems best at but not getting any rosette option?

Any ideas on the next step in regards to making a rosette winner?
