Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

That’s because TB x Vanners don’t possess the proper skill set to win rosettes. If you’re trying to win XC rosettes with a TB x Vanner, you need extremely high stamina and TBs have a super low stamina skill, so that’s dragging the whole stamina of the cross down. Crossing is based on math and if you’re just doing two ways then your skills are an average of the parents’ stats.

If you’re trying to win reining rosettes, the same principle applies. Gallop is the top skill in reining, and while Vanners have decent gallop, it’s not high enough to win a rosette, even when paired with a TB. TBs have horrible stamina and dressage by comparison which are also important in reining. The skill set just doesn’t line up.

You could try an Arabian+Friesian cross - I have one on the CA server that did really well in cutting comps (five wins, no seconds or thirds) before I accidentally got him stuck on Classical. And then he took me completely by surprise with his results in trot comps: 19 wins, 1 second, and 2 thirds!

Has anyone ever managed an awesome Hackney cross? (Hackney as sire)
I've got a lovely purebred stallion and I want a crossbreed foal good in comps.
If anyone's bred a Hackney cross please let me see!

I had a whole project a while ago.... this Filly is one of my experiments that I was quite happy with.

For my GV's I'm not sure when ether to do classic or western ? Which would be better ?

Depends on how you train. I do Forest rides until 3 then comp in CC until no skill gain (depending how many comps you can do in a day, usually finish those around 3.6-3.8 months). Then switch to Western, and comp in Barrel. But I also fill my own comps to help increase the chance of a win and to get them faster.
Which breed ends up being the "dominant" listed breed in a 4-way cross? Would you guys post some of your personal favorite 4-ways? I'm thinking about making these as 4-ways: "Baroque Blend," "Colorado Ranger," and "Belgian Warmblood."

Baroque Blend will be Lusitano, PSH, Friesian, and Lipizzaner
Colorado Ranger will be App, Barb, Arabian, and QH
Belgian WB will be KWPN, Selle, Hanoverian, and Holsteiner

Depends on whether all the breeds between the parents are the same, or if they're different.

If the breeds between the parents are different then it will take the sire's second listed breed. If they're the same then I've always had it take the dam's last listed breed.
For example, Brianna's a 4-way, but with the same breeds between her parents so she took her dam's last listed breed.
WhileTimberwolf took his sire's second listed breed because his parents have different breeds between them

Do you have a link to the parents?

Perfect examples, Legs, thanks! I haven't bred out the parents yet. Am wrapping up several other projects right now, but wanted to started prepping for it. Appreciate the help!

Current project right now is training all of my horses, crosses and pures. Then maybe working on my Legacy Friesian Warmblood line. Not sure yet.

Any thoughts on some projects involving Friesians as the dominant breed? Maybe a four-way cross line?

I'm going to try out that Baroque Blend I mentioned before. Am going to make it Friesian dominant. (Friesian x Lipizzaner) x (PSH x Lusitano)

Warlander = Friesian x PSH
Warlander = Friesian x Lusitano
Warlander = Friesian x (PSH x Lusitano) - This is my personal fave of that bunch

Friewalker = Friesian x TWH
Gypsian = Friesian x Gypsy

Friesian Sporthorse, which covers a lot of different possible combintations. The sporthorses I use in the mix include, but are not limited to:

KWPN, Selle Francais, Thoroughbred, Akhal-Teke, Hanoverian, Trakehner, Holsteiner, Irish Hunter, annnnnnd several other crosses:
- Iberian Warmblood (PSH/Lusitano x TB/KWPN crosses)
- Anglo-Arabian (TB x Arabian)
- Appendix QH (TB x QH)
- Budyonny (TB x Russian Don)
- Latvian (Hanoverian x Holsteiner)
- Nez Perce (Appaloosa x Akhal-Teke)
- Yorkshire Coach (TB > Barb, PSH/Lusi, Arabian crosses)
- Kisber Felver (TB x Trake, Arabian, Selle crosses)
- Cleveland Bay (Barb, PSH/Lusi, TB, Arabian crosses)
- Belgian Warmblood (KWPN, Selle, Hano, Holst crosses)
- Polo Pony (TB x Arabian, QH, Criollo crosses)

Fivinyn784, I'm looking forward to seeing your baroque cross default smiley ^)

The Gypsians are amazing at WP comps. I also have a line called Legacy Friesian Warmbloods which are Fri dominant KWPN crosses

OK some quick help on this horse Frozen in time is she really worth working on and if so, what comps would she be good at and what should I breed to her if she is worth it.
By Retired breeder, 6th December 2017 16:54:03
I've never messed with her breed before let alone crossed, so I have no idea what to do really

It looks like she has a great skillset for cutting comps, as well as lower-difficulty reining and western pleasure comps. She would probably do really well in those 2 comps because of her comparatively low gallop/trot and high stamina/dressage.

You could try breeding her to a pure Lipizzaner to boost her reining skillset, or maybe a pure Walker to boost her WP skillset. You could breed her to a pure Crio to try and improve her cutting skillset but I don't think it would deviate very much.

My new filly Xena opinions? I've had some fun with Morgan crosses other than getting wins have been difficult. I've got a stud I'm still blupping to breed her with.

I'd personally go Western and try to focus trail riding for wins. Keep dressage low, but train out trot and jump training bars to 100%. If dressage starts to go up to high, could train out dressage and stamina, and then go for reining (keep gallop low until done).

Side rant: Everyone needs to stop crossing everything with Gypsy Vanners just for the GP. It's hard to find anything non-GV cross that's really decent in sales. default smiley :s

Now it's GVs, at one point it was Thoroughbreds, and before that KWPNs... As the breed at the top changes, the common crosses do too.

But yes, it's tiresome to try to look for variations of crossbred horses, we could really use some more advanced search options.
Yuuuup, I messaged Howrse about giving us better search options. The only other thing I can think of doing in the meantime is trying to make an offsite or EC directory of some sort. Players that commonly breed certain types or breeds of crosses, maybe. It's been a thing for so long.... sigh.

I'd be happy to trade decent GP crosses of anything I commonly play with. I just picked up a Budyonny (Russian Don x TB) in sales. default smiley (l)
