Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

Hi everyone again , after doing a bit of researching i came up with these ideas for targeting specific competitions :
Jumping : Holsteiner X Hano X Selle X Russian

Dressage : Lusitano X Lipizzan X Irish(?)

Gallop : Marwari X TB

Trot : Peruvian , Tenesse X Hackney

I'd like to hear your opinions on these or if you have ever done something similar too. Pm me !

What would be a good cross for a SelleXGypsy cross bred mare??

I'm not quite sure what else to cross my selle mare to as well so I'd like some help in that.

Do you have a link?
Also, any specifics in mind? i.e. comps, skill set, et cetera

Hi, I am looking to cross my QH mare Raina with a TB stallion but I want to make sure I get a TB colt, is there any way to higher my chances of getting a Thoroughbred rather than a Quarter Horse? Possibly Hera's Pack?

I have two foals. Both had a 100% Thoroughbred dam and 100% Welsh sire. Both are listed as Welsh. I bred them together and got a Thoroughbred. How can I breed them and get a Welsh?
By Retired breeder, 27th August 2017 17:17:04
If it matters, the resulting foal was a filly.

You can breed a Thoroughbred mare to a Welsh stud to get a Welsh body... Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

It depends on the order of their listed genetics. Crossbreeding genetics have been acting wonky of late, but I did two tests just to be sure and it looks like even genetics of the same breeds are still resulting in foals that take the dam's last listed breed. So make sure that the dam has Welsh listed second.

Which two in particular are you wanting to breed?

Okay, thank you so much! default smiley (h)

This is the mare

I'd like a good all arounder for both specialties.

@Supernova

Looks like a pretty good all-around horse.
I'd say if you'd like to upgrade trot, do a Hackney or a TW. Another horse to try would be a KWPN or a Selle for high jumping, and you'd get a pretty nice trail class horse with that low trot and high jumping and dressage, or keep going at stamina with Connie and you could get a monster WP or XC.
However!
Most players have said regarding all around crosses that since all the skills are high, they have trouble getting wins because they're put in higher difficulty comps with better horses.

Hope it helps default smiley ;)

I know I've asked this before but I can't seem to find the answer I received. So, would anyone happen to have a Halfie/Appy I could look at? Or possible compose a spreadsheet for one.

I could get one?

My answer:
I want to end up with Welsh crosses, 50/50 Welsh TB. In my case, both Welsh x TB are listed as Welsh, with Welsh on top. The resulting baby was of course 50/50 Welsh TB, but listed with TB on top, so showing as TB. So if I breed that TB baby to another 50/50 Welsh TB with TB showing, it might turn out as a Welsh?

So confusing, maybe I should just increase the Welsh so it stays Welsh...

The breed listed first in the genetics tab isn't necessarily the dominant breed. The breed order displayed is random if the percentages are the same.

If you don't mind, since your new foal is listed as TB and then Welsh, if that is a filly you could breed it with its sire and you should get a Welsh dominant foal that way.

It may be different considering you're only using 50/50, but in even 4 way crosses (25/25/25/25) The resulting foal will always be the second breed listed on the sires genetics page. (i.e. Sire is TB/Welsh, so long as Welsh is listed on the bottom, the foals will always be Welsh in a resulting foal). But I don't know if this applies to breed the same 50/50 breed horses together.

Do you have a link to the horses you're breeding together?

Gatlin -

Here is the sire:

^^I would again recommend breeding the filly to the sire. In cases where you're breeding horses of even genetics with the same breeds (in this case two 50/50 Welsh x TBs) the foal will take the dam's last listed breed. So if you breed the filly (TB x Welsh) to the sire (Welsh x TB) the foal's dominant breed should be a Welsh.

The genetics have been acting wonky of late as usually even genetics with different breeds take the sire's second listed breed. However, they are currently taking the dam's first. I double checked that this wasn't affecting a cross such as yours where the even genetics are the same breeds, and that seems to be working as normal going by the two foals I bred.

Thank you! I will give that a shot and see what happens.
You bet! You can always just breed a tester foal when your filly hits breeding age. That way you won't waste time blupping her if she gives you the wrong breed.

I get to breed a 8000ish Selle mare tomorrowdefault smiley :d Figured I'd try KWPN for starters.

Oh, got a TB mare who can have 1 more foal, she's like a 5500GP? If anyone wants.

And now, off to art and hope to put sadness onto paper. Lost an aunt this week.

@keepsake,
Do you mind if I use her? I don't have enough TB mares to keep up with my projects. I'll PM you about it if you're okay with it.
