Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

A quick question. If I breed a half and half cross with another half and half cross of the same breeds, (Ex: QH and TB cross bred with QH and TB cross) will the foal be a half and half QH and TB cross?

Yes, the foal will still be 50% QH / 50% TB

However 50/50 crosses like to flip breed order every once in awhile in a generation. Meaning that you might wind up with QH dominant one breeding, TB dominant in another. General rule of thumb is that in even 50/50's like the one you mentioned, the foal will generally be the dam's second listed breed.

Newt Newt,
Thanks! Just looked back at the other page and saw the same topic. Let this be a lesson to me to LOOK before asking. Silly me, but still, thank you

My Standardbred cross is coming along, and I've run out of aging points yet again default smiley xd Time to do some homework on gallop-dominant breeds, I suppose.
Does anyone have good western sounding names for these two horses?

hi guys! hows everyone doing today?

... just a random thought I had earlier today. since i hate doing rides (there's just something about them that i don't like doing lol) i wonder if a dressage/gallop/ jumping cross or a stm/speed/trot horse would be fun to do default smiley (lol) can blup to 100 with only 1 ride done default smiley xd default smiley xd

is there a horse already with those skill sets?

oh I guess Holsteiners have dressage/gallop/jump as top 3!
and stm/speed/trot combo would be Curlies and Standardbreds? default smiley (lol)

would still be fun to do though if i only had to do 1 type of rides... default smiley :p

As far as naming goes I find using a couple words from a song really good, or book / movie names? default smiley ;)

Sometimes I name them a combination of the sire and dam's names.

Second QH/Standardbred foal!
My theory is proven! 2nd foal has the same results as the first with the same dam and different sure. Now to see if I can breed the first with another breed and improve gallop and trot. Any breed ideas?
@Bandito15

Lookin' nice default smiley (y)

Has anyone tried a tb cross that was fairly successful? What was your favorite? Crossbreeding is a blasty blast, and I want to do a tb cross as that gallop sure is yummy but am left at a crossroads as to which way I want to take it. So figured I'd come to all you lovely people for some inspiration, seeing which way you guys took yours and morph a game plan from there

QH/Standardbred/Hackney
Eehh not too happy with the results of this one... I honestly don't know why I chose Hackney, but on the up side I've found a new breed to try with TB and QH.
Also bred a TB/Standardbred and wasn't too pleased, but it's because of the dam. I just need to find a fully blupped TB mare default smiley xd

@Newt Newt
I've heard that TB/QH crosses are great for high gallop, but never done one myself.

With my current project, I'm working with Standardbreds and similar breeds, and have found those interesting default smiley (lol) I'm thinking of trying a Friesian/TB, eventually default smiley xd

A few players I know have bred TB/Appy crosses to get rosettes with them. I did a couple TB/Selle crosses that worked out well too, but they weren't rosette level

Yeesssssss! I just started a new project (QH, TB, Ten. Walker, Peru Paso) and since my newfound knowledge of genetics, this is how the foal should turn out once he is actually bred and, uh, born... (this is not exact because I didn't add decimals in the calculations, so all the genetics added don't equal the overall GP)

Overal Genetics: 7747.5
Stamina: 1250.5
Speed: 1296
Dressage: 1469.5
Gallop: 1348
Trot: 1275
Jumping: 1029.5

I was going for a well rounded horse and as you can see, I pretty much achieved that! The Jumping genetics are lower than I want, does anyone have any tips to lower the dressage and up the jumping to get them all around the 1200 area? Once I get the actual foal bred, Ill post a link default smiley :d

I recently did a TB QH cross and they are perfect for gallop, I am currently using them for my project but I plan to use them for gallop too!

Hi! I've always wanted to try a Mustang/TB cross. Does anyone know what those are good at? Thanks! default smiley (8)
Hey everyone... i've been taking a break from crossbreeding a bit while focusing more on my pure Hackney's & Welshies however I have gained quite a few BM's recently and decided to breed together a known winner... TB x Selle. Speed & dressage stay high, whereas gallop and jumping drop down to mid level making them a bomb at comps.

Check out 'Wall Street' here.

He's also available for coverings soon once I get him to 100 BLUP if anyones interested. default smiley ;)
