Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Thanks to both of you guys - it really cleared out much for me.

I can definitely relate to the fact that overcompetitiveness (is that even a word?) is kind of killing the fun, so that crossbreeding can get you more of the leisure enjoyment I personaly hoped for in this game.

I think I'll just try to follow the skills needed for specific comps and start from there. We'll see what will come up default smiley (8)

Has anyone ever tried a Standardbred/Quarter cross? I've been trying to answer the million dollar question for crossbreeding (How to increase gallop without losing trot or increase trot and not lose gallop) and quite possibly have discovered something. Earlier today I bred a Standardbred/Appaloosa cross that surprisingly had trot as a top skill. I totally wasn't expecting that, as Appys aren't trot dominant at all, but I guess she's a miracle fillydefault smiley (lol) I'm going to try it out and see how it goes. Wish me luck! default smiley xd

I think the answer to the million dollar question is either a three or four-way cross. As far as I know you can't increase gallop without losing trot & vice versa with a 50-50 cross. You may be onto something default smiley :)

Paint/Selle dominated Jump comps if I recall correctly. I worked with them for a while and did pretty well.

Many, many moons ago I bred the top overall horse. He was a cross baby default smiley :p

Doesn't anyone have an idea of what comps This filly would do well in? First time with Standardbred/Appaloosas.
By Retired breeder, 1st August 2017 23:17:35
Oh, and she's the miracle filly mentioned above. The Standardbred/QH is on the way, and I think it'll be interesting.... Maybe if I introduced my Knarab mar3 with high gallop and trot...... Hmmm.... What do you guys think?
By Retired breeder, 1st August 2017 23:24:33

I've discovered a good cross for SJ comps. It's a Knabstrupper/Arabian cross.

Oh lol not a paint one sorry default smiley xd

Standardbred/Quarter Colt
I'm pretty happy with this little guy! Gallop is only about 100 less than trot! His dam's a Quarter and he's Standard dominant, so maybe I'll see if I can get a Qurter dominant out of a Standard stallion I bought. Eek! SOOO close to answering the question! I'm also super happy that he's a colt too, because then I can try some 3 way and 4 way crosses.... Maybe breed a TB/Standardbred with him when he's BLUPped? The possibilities are endless!default smiley <:o)default smiley :-))

I bred a Quarter/Standardbred colt that's Standardbred dominant.
He's got nice trot and gallop, the link is on my earlier post. You could try one of those, or maybe a TB/Standardbred, but other than that colt, experiments are in the process.
lol I thought it might be you mega, wasn't it a lippi/qh or something similar?

The colt I bred earlier wasn't as I thought..... Trot was 100 less than gallop, which is the direction I was trying to go in! Now I've just got to find a Standardbred mare and TB stallion to try the TB/Standardbred..... And from there cross Standardbred with all the gallop-dominant breeds.... This is going to take awhile default smiley 8-)default smiley xd

my most successful paint crosses were paint/KWPN for cutting Party Hats and paint/kwpn/gypsy for western pleasure Fancy Footwork

My latest cross here.

Think I'll have a pretty nice Western Pleasure comper, might even succeed pretty well in a couple classical comps as well.

No rhyme or reason for this guy, very much just a "let's see what I get" kind of cross, which tend to be my favorites. Kicker is he'll take #1 for Paso stamina once trained and he also has a twin sister too default smiley (lol)

Ever's latest adventure in crossbreeding:

Bred two selle/kpwn (both kpwn dominant) and ended up with a selle foal:

click!

Sire: 50% KPWN, 50% Selle, Breed: Kpwn
Dam: 50% KPWN, 50% Selle, Breed: Kpwn

Foal: 50% KPWN, 50% Selle, Breed: Selle default smiley xd

we mentioned a few pages back that if it's 50/50, it's random, right? default smiley (lol)

From my experience, when breeding two 50/50 of the same breeds, the foal will take on the second listed breed on the mares genetic tab. So with your mare, she must have Selle listed second to produce the Selle foal.

I've bred several generations (about hundred horses now) of 50/50 crossed line, it's always fun to see when the breed order get randomly flipped. default smiley (lol)

At a quick glance, this seems to hold true. I will investigate further when I have time.

I'm working on some pony crosses now, but first I need to get my purebred ponies GP up a bit, I've got a Shetland and Welsh cross planned, a Fjord and Quarter Pony still to be decided, also I evidently bought a Mustang mare a while back but I have no idea what I planed to do with it default smiley (lol)
