Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

The breed flipping thing happens quite often, though not always when you want it to.
Inchworm and Aquamarine are half sisters, but same genetics, yet the breed order is different. I've asked Contact Us about it in the past and was told breed order was random in case of even crosses like this.
Same with Jamie and Claire . Full siblings (not twins), but they have different breed order and in Claire's case her dominant breed is not her first listed breed.

The genetics, and the gender of the parent does play an important part in determining which of the parent's slot the foal takes from. If both parents are 50/50 crosses of different breeds then the foal will take the sire's second listed breed. Same if the parents are 25/25/25/25 or 25/25/25/25/25 crosses of different breeds. If the parents are even crosses of the same breeds then it's been my experience that the foal will take the dam's last listed breed. Depending on the breed order of a particular parent I want to use I'll Bolt the horse so the foal will take from the slot that lists the breed I want, or I'll breed a couple more foals until I can flip the breed order and not waste a Bolt.

Sure! Ive got an 8997 GP Stallion available if you'd like. And if you want 9000, I can certainly breed a foal and age him up, but that will be a while... default smiley (o)

That would be great! Need to age him up first
Bred this filly today. She's teared, but still shows a lot of potential for her dam.

Swimmy is almost in the top 100 for barrel wins default smiley (7)

Biggest tip I can give - always use +100 BLUP parents if you're crossing a skiller foal default smiley (8)

If anyone is in need of coverings, I've got a few stallions available.

Two are 100 BLUP, and one is getting there (slowly) default smiley (o) Pesky rides.

Alduin is a black overo Marwari/Arabian, with 7249.25 GP and 9533 Skills; and Valhalla is a strawberry roan TB/Arabian, with 7548.99 GP and 8628.16 skills so far (still need to bold trot and jump).

Embers is a Gypsy Vanner/Arabian with 7961.64 GP and 7668.04 Skills. He's the one still needing his rides finished, as well as other training bars done to up his skills.

*Shoot me a message if your needing/wanting a cover from one of these guys. Hopefully Embers will be done in a day or two. *

And if anyone happens to be selling any 8300+ GP crosses, please let me know! I'm wanting to add more lines to my collection. Even though I should train up some of the many foals I have default smiley (lol)
I've got a +8400 GP foal in my Sales breeding tab, if you'd like to look Cerberus.

Are there teams for cross breeds. If u could please pm me
By Retired breeder, 29th July 2017 22:39:19
Mega, are you still in need of a TB mare? I have a 9074 GP if you're interested.
Please will everyone read the original post carefully. The wording about advertising covers says ' (as long as they are not blatant advertisements)'. At the moment I am seeing far too many that are exactly that. In particular adverts for or offering covers from purebreds are not acceptable. That is not the reason for this thread and covers may be obtained in exactly the same way everyone else has to use.

If this continues a lot of posts will be censored and forum bans will follow.

Finished training up my selle cross last night. default smiley (7) it was the horse that caused me much confusion (and this thread too, a couple pages back) default smiley (lol)

Just wanted to show off my latest horse--but really don't know where to go from there (breed more foals? lol). Could've just been a fun project??

I'm a pure breeder who wants some mixed foals, any suggestions on who to buy them from?

You can look at player's horses from this thread and see if they have anything for sale, perhaps? Since advertising is not allowed in public forums your best bet is to either ask players via PM/look at their stock or looking in direct sales.

Hello all, I am getting pretty interested in crossbreeding but am still a little bit confused about some things.

So this is what I figured out reading through this thread: It is always the best to cross two breeds with similar skill set, mating always with 100 BLUPed parents.
Also, if you are interested in getting great competition horses, I understand it is better to work with breeds who have the highest GP. Is that correct?

Let's say I would like to have a horse with excellent skills set that could win in grand prix too. Is that even possible to do with the crossbred? If yes, where can I see which skills are needed for each competition?

I did look at the winner horses in those competitions and it was rarely a crossbred, which got me thinking, what is people's main motivation for crossbreeding in general? Or better yet, what is your individual motivation for it?

Any other suggestions would be very much appriciated, of course! default smiley ^)

Not necessarily. It just depends on what you're looking for in a crossbreed. For example Hackneys have Stamina, Trot, and Dressage as their top skills. If you breed that horse with a horse that has gallop as a top three skill, and the foal is hackney dominant, then you can probably get on the horses rankings for Hackney galloping (if your foal is teared/skilled, etc.). Even without skilling your foal you can still probably win plenty of breed-only gallop comps (as long as there are gallop comps up and running default smiley (lol) in my experience there aren't a whole ton of hackney breed only comps unfortunately)

Now if you want rosettes, then you probably will have to go for the highest GP horses, and then tear/skill your foal. I've had good luck with KPWN dominant kpwn/selle crosses with KPWN breed-only jumping rosettes.

That, I've never seen done. Mainly because there are top prix teams with the best GPs and only they have access to those horses. prix horses are sold gelded, so it's impossible to breed your own unless you're part of that team or just bulp/breed hundreds/thousands of GP above sales GP to get to the top.

There are kind of "designated" breeds for prix horses too, like lustis for dressage, Tennessee Walkers, Nokos, etc etc etc.

Rosettes, personal goals, just for fun. I think in general the purebreed part of howrse is very competitive and I crossbreed to just enjoy the process of being on howrse. Also it's nice when you cross a horse and it gets on the best horses ranking, and of course I know there are some cross breeders who make these monster comp horses that win 1000+ comps too. It's just all what you want to get out of it, which is the best part of cross breeding!

it has been done, I can't remember what the cross was that won prix, but someone with access to 2 breeds on top teams bred something to win a western prix even, I believe it was reining. It was a long time ago, then the top teams said no more and no more of that.
