Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Hey im new to this game, so i was just wonderin what crosses well with an arabian? And will the foal look like the mom or dad?
The foal will be the dad's breed, if he is purebred. I recommend Irish Hunters, personally.

I'm copying this from a question I asked in Game Play because I'm hoping that fellow cross breeders could help me with this question.

Ok, here goes...I have a line of horses called "Sweet Sixteens", if you need to look at them, you'll find them in my Horses Being Worked tab. Anyway, they are perfect mixes of 16 breeds (hence the name) and now I'm working on training and breeding them to raise their GP.

Well, the first generation were Welsh Ponies as a "showing" breed (since they are perfect mixes on their genetics page 5 breeds randomly show at 20% so there is no dominant breed). I figured then that when I bred them together one of two things would happen, either they would produce Welsh ponies because both parents showed Welsh ponies, or they would show some random breed.

The breeding of these two horses produced Standardbred horses. Fine, then I bred the Welsh father back to the Standardbred showing daughter. I figured that I would get a Welsh out of this, but to my surprise it was a Standardbred.

As they are evenly mixed, there shouldn't be a dominant breed. Is there something I'm missing here? Will they eventually show as other breeds or will they all be Standardbred showing?

The first generation (Welsh showing) parents were brother and sister. Their father was Standardbred, and their mother was Canadian.

Please let me know if you can answer this. Thanks!

spanishroses4u - there is some funny rule as to what breed the foal takes. For a bog standard 50/50 cross (of two *purebred* horses) then the foal will always take the stally's breed as dominate

After that it's something ridiculous like the foal takes it's father's mother's breed, I've seen your question answered before but it was far too much info for my little brain.
bridget-xxx you are right on the "rule" that if it's a 50 50 cross then it takes the sires breed, after that it usually takes the dominant breed, and some say if it's an even cross then it should take the sire's dam, but the problem is that they don't appear to be following any of those rules, so it's a little bizarre to me...default smiley (o)

Well I seem to recall an admin (Ow I believe but I may be wrong) saying that it was 'random'

.......................

Not sure I believe that myself, especially with the 50/50 cross thing *always* taking the stally's breed as dominate..
By Retired breeder, 19th May 2010 16:26:38
whoops, grammar error there. Dominant*

Spanishhorses-

I am having the same trouble with my 25% crosses! I expected it to turn out as the Father's mother's breed so I coordinated my breeds the way I wanted it if it worked like that and it turned out as the father's breed instead! Last time I WANTED it to be the fathers breed and it turned out the fathers mothers breed! So it appears random??

I bred 3 times with that combo and it stayed Morgan (fathers breed) with each foal so I am assuming that once you get one foal with a certain shown breed it stays that breed for the rest.
They're still not following those rules then, since one set turned out Welsh, and then after that they turned out standardbred which was the father's father's breed instead of the father's mother's breed...I'm curious to see what the future generations are going to do.
