Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Bred a new Mare, hoping she's a pretty decent race monster. She has full brother that I'm thinking of Gelding, although I might keep him a stallion so he can breed. Pretty proud of them, and I'm in love with her Golden Apple default smiley (7)default smiley (7)

I've never cross bred before in 7 years of playing howrse (this is a new account, previous ones I've had over the years were all deleted) so I'm new to this! So wondering if anyone could help me with this:
I've brought a Standardbred mare that I plan to cross with Argentinian Criollo's, with the intention of creating horses good at the trotting races. Does anyone know if this is a good combination, or if any other breeds would mix well with these two.
Thank you to anyone that want to help!
Well this was funny. So, when I bred connie 1 to connie 2, I got halflinger. But when breeding the halfi to connie 2, I got selle. I wonder if I breed the selle back to his halfi mom, if it'll be a halfi baby and then what the breed list will look like.

I just started crossbreeding and i did a Gypsy x Thoroughbred to increase i think the stamina in the thoroughbred. Could someone with more cross-breeding experience take a look at him? He's Thoroughbred 8187.49. Also, could i increase each skill individually by crossbreeding breeds best at that skill? Like for stamina gypsy x thoroughbred and then for jumping do that foal with a breed that excels in jumping etc.
Theoretically, that would work. I haven't looked at him yet, tho.

Now that is a very good colt. default smiley (y) He's low in trot, though, so I would suggest trying the same cross with the same horses (if possible) and try to get a filly, raise/train/blup, and cover that filly with a Standardbred, Tennessee Walker, or Peruvian Paso.

I'm not the most experienced with crossbreeding, though I seem to have more luck with that then with my purebreds default smiley (lol)

Do you have a link to the horse?default smiley :)

You can breed a cross that has a different skill set than its purebred counterpart. For example, if you wanted a Paint cross that had trot as one of its top skills, then you could do that. Depending on the horse's genetics it could take you few or more crosses to get the outcome you're looking for. Since TBs have fairly decent stamina, you wouldn't have to cross too many times to get a TB with nice stamina.
This TBxGypsy has stamina as its second best skill actually.

You can roughly calculate what a foal's individual genetic skills will be by taking the average of the parent's genetics. That's what I do when I'm looking to target increase specific genetics.

Hi,

Ive just started cross breeding as a fun side project. Ive just bred this Hano/Lustanio filly https://www.howrse.com/elevage/chevaux/cheval?id=52481574&message=naissance and I am planning on blupping her and then rebreeding here. I would like to up her stamina and speed skills, I wondered if anyone has any recommendations of what breed would be best to cross her with?
By Retired breeder, 26th May 2017 15:00:13

I would breed her Thoroughbred for speed.

How many different breeds can show up in a horse's genetics? For example if I breed a purebred Gypsy with a purebred Friesian, then breed that half and half with a purebred Arabian, and so on, how many different breeds can I get a horse to be?

a horse can have all possible breeds in them

(all horse and pony species OR the 3 draft breeds)

BUT only the highest 5 by percent will show up on the horses page

Example: All Breed Project

If you look through the family trees, which will take a long time, you'll see every breed. Project took me just over a year to complete. Kinda want to do the project over again, but with all 350 foundations. But I don't need any more projects. I have too many already.

Paints, Appies, Chincos, or Mustangs (off the top of my head) would be ideal for speed. Mustangs also have stamina in top 3, so you could do that with a pure Mustang or even a pure Crio (stamina/dressage/speed in that order) if you didn't want a cross to get stamina and speed up, or you could do something like a Paint or Appy/Arab (Arabs have better speed that Gypsies) or some such.

I've been absent from the game a while and I'm just starting to pick up where I left off. Here is a nice colt that I bred a while back, he's quite even throughout now of his skills. I'm annoyed that his GP isn't higher, but back when he was born he would have been quite good! default smiley xd

Ive got a pure Arab mare, i want to cross her to try and improve her jump stats, whilst maintaining her stamina. I think for this i will need something like a Selle/Gypsy? has anyone got any other suggestions, or even stallions i could take a look at?
@alice_vscott Selle or KWPN would be the best options, both are high in jump

Vanners have a better jump to stamina ratio than Selles, though Selles have a much better jump. But even with breeding to a Vanner you're still increasing the jump GP a bit from the Arabian.
