Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Hi, I'm trying to understand how the cross breeding works. Let's say I had a high GP, fully BLUPed QH mare and I crossed it with a high GP fully BLUPed TWH stallion. Would the trot of the QH be improved by the TWH? Also, if it was 50/50 which breed dominates? Thanks!

The foal takes the average of the parents' genetics. If you want to know the rough GP of your future foal's trot from that mix, then just take the average of the parent's trot genetics.
So if you have a QH with 797.89 GP trot, and a TWH parent with 2175.59 GP trot, the foal would have roughly 1486.74 trot GP.

In 50/50 cross the foal will take the breed of the sire.

I also have a question. Or, actually, a problem. I really don't know what I should breed this mare with - does anybody have any advice? default smiley :-x

Perhaps you could try increasing speed?
Hm, @Framing Hanley I'll definitely do that on her next foal! Thank you for your advice! default smiley (b)

What teams work with crossbreeding? Don't mind if the foal is gelded.

You may try the Imperial. Dark Goddess is usually open to cross breeds as she used to breed them a lot herself. Usually you have to provide a stallion though of cover full expenses for the covering.

Many teams are cross friendly. Most will state in their presentation if they are open to cross covers. You just have to look around.

Top TB team is cross friendly.
Top Barb team
Star Studded Eyes - Paint
Promise - Morgan
Risen Empire - QH
Inside the Smoke - Marwari

... just to name a few.

I have a tough question. I want to see what would happen if I cross 16 breeds equally. To do this, I bought 8 50/50 foals (4 male 4 female), and made sure no breeds were repeated in their heritages. I'm going to breed them, and then breed the next generation of offspring so that a foal is eventually produced with all 16 breeds equally in its genetics.

Here is a rough pedigree of what I'm thinking. Currently, I am on generation 1.
+ signs are used to indicate a mate, = signs are used to indicate offspring, and / are used to indicate the genetics of a horse.
(Ignore the ..... as they are only inserted for spacing purposes. I apologize if the below diagram is unclear.)

My questions:
1. How many breeds will show up in the last horse's genetics? I've heard it's only the top 5, but what happens if they're all equal?
2. How would the breed be determined for the 4rth generation? I don't know yet what genders the 2nd and 3rd generations will be yet, and I might alter the pairings on the 2nd generation if the genders don't match.

Thanks in advance, and I apologize for the shoddy diagram.

1. Even if all of them are even, it'll pick out random 'top' 5.
2. Not sure as my Melting Pot project has kinda thrown me for a loop with the latest foal. However, normally I think it's the 2nd listed breed from the sire.

Those melting-pot projects are really cool! Maybe I should do something similar one day... But, question. How did you get to the 19.9? Just... a flaw in Howrse code?

This is the mare I'm working on right now:

Buenos Aires. I saw some Criollo mixes trotting around here and I decided to give it a try. So far I really like her. I don't know how she's going to do in comps yet as it's a Stang/Criollo mix and I have never tried that before, but I'm planning to do a few more Criollo mixes in the future. I never really noticed the Criollo breed, actually they have quite high genetics! default smiley ^)

Does anyone have a PaintxGypsy cross I could look at? Thinking of possibly doing one.
I have Gypsy crosses, most with TB blood though. But you're welcome to look lol

They're under the Skillinz, Yo! barn, under Cross Booster Boys, and Skillinz, Yo
Somewhere I even have a Gypsy/TB/Flord mix...

Just not working anybody, and most likely never willdefault smiley :(

Might find Gypsy cross mares under Sales, then Customs, but I'm not sure.

Speaking of Crios, I agree. They have certainly surprised medefault smiley :d

My latest crossbred filly - Light in the Dark. Going back to my roots with the mare that paved the way for my crossbred bloodline, which started with her first daughter Dashing Light.

I'm thinking I should introduce some Hanoverian via that filly; what do you guys think?

Question again!

I've just bought a 8700+ GP TB mare with MA. She was almost BLUPped and under 10 years, so she's ready for breeding now.

What is the absolute best TB cross? The other breed will be dominant. I was thinking about these:

- Paint Horse
- Quarter Horse
- Appaloosa
- Purebred Spanish Horse
- Knabstrupper (do I get a Knab that has an edge in speed and gallop, perhaps?)
- Canadian Horse
- Quarter Pony
- Brumby
- Australian Pony
- Welsh
- Chincoteague Pony

Sorry for the massive breed-dump. Any advice?

I had a friend who preferred Marwari/TB crosses, but I don't know what the market Marwari GP is at.
Oh thank you! I'll check it out, maybe it'll give me a nice little cross. default smiley (y)

Sorry, don't know how to do a quote, but I would cross your tb mare with an Appaloosa. If I remember correctly they are both great at gallop. Also in real life app x tb is a popular cross to produce Appaloosa Sport Horses.

WarixTB is a great cross to work with. I also crossed one with a Barb once. Difficult to blup but they can dominate the Barb boards.
My favorite is the Appy/TB.
I have a few mares in semi retirement right now, and I'm happy with how they turned outdefault smiley :)
