Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Can anyone recommend me some good breeds to cross with Friesians? I'm looking for a good Western comp horse.

Possibly Hackney? They have the same skill set, however a Friesian influence would increase the dressage and decrease the trot, meaning there's a better background skill and better chance at Western Pleasure comps. I have a couple 6000GP Hackney stallions if you're interested.
Tennessee Walker would have the same effect, as their skill set is near identical to Hackney's.

Alternatively, you could cross with a Stamina/Dressage/Jumping stallion such as Gypsy, Arabian, Akhal Teke etc in order to reduce the skills of trot/gallop yet keep the Stamina and Dressage skills high for a horse which could succeed in Western Pleasure & Reining, however these disciplines at medium level are becoming increasingly hard to win due to people & teams BLUPing horses.

Hope this helps!

So I recently got this guy from the sales, and I was wondering what a good breed would be to cross him with. I'll bolt him first, and I'm looking for a horse that will have a fairly rounded skill set, but I'm not sure what to do. Thanks!
I'm really new to cross breeding, so I was wondering if I could get a few pointers?
Also, what would be a good breed to cross with a TB? There's no particular skill set I'm after, just looking to experiment.

You could try a Standardbred/TB cross. Got a nice foal from that combination!

Really proud of this filly.

Anyone have a good Speed Friesian cross they have that I can look at? Just 50/50's with no TB. Trying to figure out a good Speed breed to cross with a Fry that retains a high GP but balances out Stamina and Speed over the Dressage.

Does anyone have a Speed/Gallop stallion of 8000+ GP I could look at? I wish to breed a Paint mare.
Hey all! I disappeared for a while (life took over), but I bred this guy recently. I'm looking to breed his mom again soon. I haven't decided what yet. Maybe a Curly to start a hoard of Curlies or another Trake.

I'm not familiar with curly or trake but I've been back on western compers. I have a reiner and a barrel comper atm

No studs, sorry! I do have a selle/vanner mare you might like if you have a paint stud

I'm familiar with Trakes. I used to breed them actually (I only have three in my breeding farm now and one is still like #13 on the Trake boards). What breeds do you use for your reiner and barrel compers? I'm interested in looking at different types of compers, too. Mostly anything that gets me back into breeding.

I have a tb/vanner and a selle/vanner right now. Thinking about doing a paint/vanner or QH/vanner when those 2 are finished. I tried target training and comping the tb/vanner and that was a big fail but she is doing great in barrels default smiley (8)

I've successfully bred some trot compers before, but I think that was just me breeding and finding out they are the best at trot comps default smiley (lol). My highest gp horse that is blupped is a Lusi right now (the others are crosses or below 8000gp) so I might have to look into blupping my Vanner and bolting him.

Oky so I want to crossbreed with KWPN horses! Which breed would be best to crossbreed with them?

something I haven't done before. I've got horses on the board for trot comps and barrel comps. Dressage just isn't easy with a cross really unless I go breed only, and that's not happening. I like my auto comp.

and that guy is currently #10 for trot comps won, I'm hoping to move him to #8 by the end of the weekend. Need another 200 or so wins

and I have access to top shetlands...so that's probably the direction I will go. Just to find something fun to do with them

maybe trail. shetties don't have amazing dressage. If I can get the trot up and keep jump, that would be good. Time to plan
