Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

@ megawifey - absolutely lovely horses

Also hey guys! I'm new to this topic and am hoping for some tips on crossbreeding. I've tried it but my foals always end up with lower GP and skills than they should and I've never been quite good at skilling so blupping with crossbreeds, forget about it, I suck. I welcome all tips thanks

I almost always breed my horses with 100 Blup because I want the highest IBS possible as well as GP.

For easy cross pickings I would suggest making a chart of all the competitions and the breeds whose top 3 skills applies to each comp, along with another list of each breed and their skills in order. I find this makes it much easier to find the breed with the skillset you're looking for as opposed to pulling up each breed in the directories every time you want to breed a foal.

If you're familiar with Excel or Google Sheets it's not a bad idea to set up a spreadsheet that will do genetics calculations for you (as you can calculate what the foal's individual genetics will be by taking the average of the parents.) You could also just do this with a paper and calculator, but if you're using multiple breeds in your cross then all you have to do is plug in the numbers and let the spreadsheet do the work for you. This also saves from having to do tester foals and you'll know what the foal's genetics will roughly look like before you've even bred the parents.

Hey sher! I've been inactive for a long time but I've recently been playing to take some of the stress off default smiley (8)

I recently started experimenting with cross breeding (For horses to excel in Western competitions) and love it! It is a lot more fun than having the same kind of purebred like other breeders, plus, in my opinion, if bred right, it makes it much easier to compete against purebreds of the same breed because the crossbreed might excel in one category better than a purebred.

So far, I have had the best luck with my Quarter/ Thoroughbred cross, however, I have had no luck breeding that mare with different horse breeds. I also bred a Thoroughbred/ Mustang that worked out great as well.

Now, I'm looking to crossbreed a good horse for Western Pleasure or Trail Class (preferably from a Tennessee Walker breed), then I'll try horses for classic riding. default smiley (a)

Does anyone know if there's a breed that has stamina, speed and gallop as top 3 skills while not having low dressage either? I'm looking for a stud to breed to Santiago.

So the only one I see is Mustangs (Speed, Stamina, Gallop with Dressage being 4th). Unless you use a cross, I don't think you are going to get what you're looking for in that sense.

My bad, Mustangs have Dressage 5th. Small typo there.

Marwaris have that skill set (though not the exact order you mention) with dressage as their 4th best.

@amylinn(: thank you! I'll try a cross. Any advice on that one? Definitely using Mustang, maybe Mustang x Paint, or Mustang x Quarter Horse. However that'd bring down Stamina, right? Perhaps Paint is the best option.

Legacy Ann also said Marwari's too. I totally forgot about them. As for those crosses, I would say Quarter Horse would bring down your Stamina because that's their fifth skill. And Paint's top four are Speed, Dressage, Gallop, and Stamina. Maybe try a Paint/Mar and add in Mustang if needed? Mustang would bring up the Speed, Stamina, and Gallop but may bring the Dressage down a bit. You could also experiment.

You can always do the calculations for it first to see which breeds will give you the numbers you want. You can save some cover fees and time that way.

Finally got a foal I can use!!

Next breeder

I liked the high Gallop on the QH but I want to balance out the dressage and stamina for my final project. I tried a Selle for extra dressage but it also bumped jump way too high for my liking. So I started playing detective until I found the Crio lol Now I get to try and BLUP that default smiley (d)

Also, I still have the QH mare. Let me know if you want a foal from her.
So it seems Aisling likes Barrel comps better than Western Pleasure. Whatever floats her boat I guess. default smiley (lol)

Good luck!

What is her GP?

Also, if anyone needs a Paint cover, let me know. I've got this guy until I bolt him tomorrow.

Framing Hanley, her GP is 8567.00.
Finished Moumou. He's not 10 yet but has everything prepared to be 100 BLUP at 10 years of age. I'm quite happy with him, being a foal of a TB pass horse. If anyone wants a cover, let me know. default smiley :)

Just got back in the swing of things after a hiatus from Howrse. Decided to try a selle x KPWN cross (Jack of Hearts) . It's not as good at the jump competitions as i'd like (though I suspect that's because I entered a lot of non-breed specific jump comps? he seemed to do fine in kpwn-only comps!) but he's pretty good at cross country? default smiley (lol)

I have his twin too, (a girl), and thinking of getting some foals from her. But not sure if I should keep going with the selle x KPWN crosses or cross with something else as well. Any recommendations on what I should do with her? I never know what to do beyond 50/50 crosses...

Wow that one is magnificent! Perhaps try TB/Criollo, I really like those! Or QH/TB. I've got 2 examples in my 100 BLUP studs farm, if you want to check them out. default smiley 8-)

Does anyone have a cross breed stallion available for a covering for This horse ? I want the foal to still be a friesian so I would prefer the stallion doesn't have any TB in it.
First cross project I've finished for awhile, but I finally got my skill switching project completed. Figured I'd start with an easy breed for my first skill switch and I chose the Newfoundland.
Midnight Pearl.

The Newfoundland made it easy as I only needed to breed two generations to get the skill set I needed. I'll have to think about picking a trickier breed for my next project, and using some higher GP as well.

Good evening all, hope everyone is doing well. I've bred Swimmy to a mustang so we will see what we get!

Are you looking for a specific breed/GP? I have many and I could even blup/bolt one for you. I just bred a nice Marwari.
