Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

I'm not sure you'll be able to find exactly what you're looking for. A crossbreed horse will only show the 5 most prominent breeds on it's profile. While a horse CAN be an even 6 way cross, you won't know for sure unless you go through the family tree. Plus, the percentages on the profile will reflect as if it is an even 5 way.

Does anyone here have any good recommendations to breed a Mustang with to excel more in jumping and cross country? I know it is personal preference but I thought i might try here to see what people have to say!

If you want to excel in XC, then youll need to cross them with a breed that has high stamina - a Gypsy Vanner would be best for this probably, as their three best skills are stamina, dressage and jump - the three XC skills

For jumping you'd need to improve their jump and dressage skills, i'd look into maybe a Selle? They have high jump, decent dressage and high speed - which again are the three skills needed for Jump competitions.

Your best bet is to think about the particular skill you want to improve, or skills, and have a look at which breeds will increase the set of skills - you dont want to pick a breed to use as a cross for XC which has high stamina (good) but really low dressage for example, as dressage is one of the secondary skills, so low dressage reduces the chance of winning a comp!

Hope this was at least a little helpful, and if anyone has any other ideas feel free to add in!

Thanks for the insight alice_vscott ! I've bred with Selle but it didn't cross my mind to go for a Vanner.
Hello all default smiley :)

I did a KWPNxTB and got: https://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=52511841

I'm wanting to breed her again but I was wondering what your thoughts on which breed is best? I have done shetland which worked quite well, but I might do TB again

What do you all think?

Hmmm. . . She's low in trot compared to her other skills. I'd suggest Standardbred, or maybe Peruvian Paso.

So I'm going to breed Project Dapple with Lucky Seven to see what happenes. By the way, Project Dapple's twin is up for sale. Does anyone have an idea for a Gypsy cross? I was thinking maybe a Gypsy Lusitano cross. Thoughts?
Eeeee so happy with the resulting foals from my Highland cross mare Adeline!!! Here's one of them: https://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=52525004

Does anyone know of a spreadsheet or plan for breeding an even three way? I need something to do this summer.

Well, I thought I saved something about that a long while back, but I can't seem to find it. This is the closest I found in my stash. I know there was someone who made a detail plan for an even 3-way, but I just can't for the life of me remember who it was.

New here, but I'll save introductions for a later time.

I am looking to breed the perfect nib line of barrel horses, which requires stamina, speed, and gallop. My starter horses are Quarter Horses, which I think are best in gallop. What do you think the best breeds are for speed and stamina? Looking for even percentages of each breed in the final "product" , the "starter" of my line. I'm thinking three to five breeds. Four would obviously be the easiest.. But if I went for an odd number, what's the best way to achieve even percentages? Is there a "plan" of sorts? Feel free to pm me! I'd like to buy all the.needed stock before breeding though, so that horses aren't deleted or sent to safe haven or whatever. Nib crosses specifically for barrel racing, should be fun! I do feel like they would excell in their chosen event. Anyone do this?

Mustangs are good for Barrel crosses if I'm not mistaken.

I'm not sure about speed, but I'm pretty sure Gypsy Vanners are currently the best in stamina.
Also, take a look at mustangs and mawaris. They both have the speed, stamina, and gallop in their top 3 skills, which are what you need for barrels.

Okay so I'll have Quarter Horses, Mustangs, and Marwaris.. And probably a few more breeds added to the mix lol.
@ sunstruckarabian: I started with a Thoroughbred/Highland cross mare I bred named Light Up the Sky! She was pretty good, even though she didn't have a high GP (+4200, I think). Now practically all my good crossbred horses are related to her somehow.

She's in my Close to My Heart breeding tab, if you want to see her.

If you're talking horses, my favourite cross of mine is my mare Whisper. She's mostly Standardbred and Akhal-Teke, but she's also got Thoroughbred and Highland Pony. Whisper is the mother of Adeline, who I mentioned in a previous post. You can find both Whisper and Adeline in my Close to My Heart breeding tab. default smiley ;)

I'm thinking about doing KWPN crossbreds, I would like to know which would be the best breed to cross her with?

-Please PM!

"Best to cross with" is always dependent on what you want to do with the foal. If you know one breed you want to start with, look at that breed's genetics to see what it's good at, and compare that to the skill requirements for each competition. That will give you an idea of which genetic skills you'll want to improve. Then go through the breed directories to find breeds that have the genetics you're wanting to improve.

KWPNs are best at speed, dressage and jumping (show jumping comp), but they're also decent in gallop. You could either improve the show jumping skill set by breeding to a Selle, which is common for cross breeders wanting to target show jumping rosette comps. Or, if you want to try gallop competitions, then breed to gallop breeds like Thoroughbreds or Appaloosas.

Hey! I'm pretty new out here but I thought doing a bit of cross-breeding was nice, since you get a lot of variation between your horses.

I bred this little mare today, 新江. Do you guys have any tips on how to train her / what comps to do or what to cross her with? I haven't managed to get a horse to 100 BLUP yet but I'd like to try to do so with her. Are there any step-to-step guides available on here to lead me through the process?

Cheers!

So I decided to give myself something to do to rehone my BLUPing skills and since I used to be a crossbreeder, I figure what better to practice then to breed a decent crossbred. I've already kind of mapped out what I want to breed, I'm just trying to figure out what breeds to use. I want an even 4 way (25/25/25/25) that has roughly and even spread of skill GP between Speed, Dressage and Gallop with Speed and Dressage being as close to even as possible and Gallop being just a touch lower, but not by much. And I want it on a breed that doesn't rightly excel in these areas.

So to start with, I've bred an Appy/PSH To start balancing out the skills since they almost share the same skillset. Now just to figure out what to breed for the next pair that can be bred to this one.

*If my link doesn't work, I apologize, I'm a little rusty at this whole game default smiley (lol)
so I've recently came back to howrse decided to try my cross-breeding again and did a KWPN-Selle, would like thoughts on this
