Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

Edit by pixiesbite

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

I agree with Wild North regarding not finishing the training to get wins. I deplore that method as it seriously prevents people from getting their wins in the lower skilled comps. That's all I'm gonna say on the matter now and focus back on the cross breeding.

I was able to get some tears so I put them on my Morgan mare and bred her to the highest Arab in covers. They produced:

Arab/Morgan filly

I'm pleased with her and curious to see what she'll produce with my blup'd Arab/STB.

Forest Queen, she'll definitely be best in Trot and Jump. She's got better speed than pure Arabs so yeah, trot races for sure!

Very nice cross, nikita. O.o I might have to try one soon.

Even greater on ours.... its twins. o.o Which means two awesome crosses to BLUP... even if it means double the passes/items.. default smiley xd I'm gonna have to get a job and start pulling my weight with the passes.

That came out wrong... when I said "even greater" I meant what I was excited about with our crosses. >< Not that they were better than something else. That came out horribly wrong.

I've got a pure 21* Paint mare who is ready to be covered. She is BLUPd and bolded. I dunno what to cross her with though. I was gonna cross her with a TB, which would be usual of me. I wanted to know if anyone would want a cross foal from her though.

Zanna_Girl - How is Wild North being a forum Troll?
When discussing her crossbred horse.
Last time i checked this was a topic about Cross breeding default smiley ;)

RoseBlood - Paints make good mixies with Arabs or Irish hunters. I have bred two Paint x Arabs which have been on paint stamina skills boards default smiley ;)

Oh, and Zepharo, don't worry about a covering from Varon to me, I still haven't thought of a mare to be covered by him, and I don't want to hold up your plans of zapping him.
By Retired breeder, 28th April 2010 00:01:28
Really? Are we labeling anyone who happens to disagree with us a troll now? That's unfortunate.

Wild North makes a good point in that it takes very little skill or imagination to breed a horse, train it in only speed & dressage and rake in the wins against bluppers and low level horses. It's actually quite a rude thing to do, even if you only enter empty comps, since it either forces bluppers to move to a higher comp level --or just come back some other time when there are comps available.

I don't think pointing out the flawed behavior and unjustified bragging to support it classifies anyone as a troll, especially since it's all relevant to the topic of crossbreeding. default smiley (o)
She wasn't in here discussing her own cross bred horse dear, she was in here 'bashing' or 'complaining' about another player's training/competing technique.

Hm.. perhaps. I am deciding what cross breed to make for my next elite horse, or the one I put many BM items into. I'll contemplate it. Thanks for the suggestion. =)

Well Said elevenseconds.!! default smiley (y)
By Retired breeder, 28th April 2010 00:05:06
Oh so its ok to load a crossbred with every bm bonus item there is, bold speed and dressage and hit lowest % comps possible just to get more wins.

Pathetic it is my friend default smiley ;)
By Retired breeder, 28th April 2010 00:06:39
I produced a cute little newfie/arab cross and she has a WOY and arms. I would love to give her more but I sadlt can't. Anyhow I am trying to BLUP her but I am new to BLUPing and was wondering what is the best way to get her 20 wins?default smiley :) Any tips?
By Retired breeder, 28th April 2010 00:07:37
I mean i know some people have goals to get on 'most competition wins' rankings but going against bluppers is really unfair.

I have a barrel monster with over 300 wins. I enter her in 3 barrels a day.
I go in comps set to +20 wins and shes fully bolded. Thats a kind way of getting more wins dont you think default smiley :p
I do not see anything pathetic about it. Costs money and passes to add said items to the horse and with a personal goal of 500 wins it only makes a little sense, she's got to get a little bit back on her elite since sales don't allow for enough 'e' or passes to do so. I do not understand why any of it was brought up in the first place default smiley (o)

I'm fairly certain, RGCL is not your "dear" and would find that extraordinarily patronizing, as do I.

Apparently expressing my thoughts on something that just so happened to disagree with your opinion and the mutual admiration society you have going here is apparently not allowed? I'm not questioning a *player*, I'm questioning a *technique*. And I would say it behooves more experienced players to encourage new players to rise to a level above rank-mongering.

Truly, I'm sure the spirit of this thread is to further the interests of cross-breeding and to hopefully elevate the respect of the general Howrse-public for this particular angle to the game. It happens to be my opinion, and that of many other cross-breeders, that under-training is not a very good advertisement.

And if coming back to check something 8 pages back and happening upon a reply constitutes trolling, I suppose we should have a visit-limit set on this thread then?
By Retired breeder, 28th April 2010 00:10:08
Yes i know it costs to do that etc
But wouldnt they rather enter them in high kitty comps to get more equus?
Sunny, I have heard some people say that training dressage/gallop does well for barrel comps while BLUPing and the more universal training strategy is speed/dressage for the other competitions. Most crosses get their 20 wins by 10 no matter their training really default smiley (lol)

Well it is a good technique when your young horse is bluping itself, especially when there a lot of elite horses in the breed competing which would make it hard to make wins if your horse is better trained in the area. Now after 20 wins are complete I don't think it is necessary, but I won't bash.
By Retired breeder, 28th April 2010 00:14:37
I'm not liking the atmosphere being created here, it's getting kind of edgy to me. =/ Perhaps this should be dropped?
If I came off as patronizing to RGCL then I apologize. I call a lot of people 'dear' with no 'hidden' meaning behind it default smiley (o). I never said that your ideas on her technique were not allowed, I merely was pointing out the *other* side of things. I was trying to make a point of she had a goal and *reason* behind what she is currently doing and that perhaps you were unaware of it....now I see there was no reason for me to bring it up. I was not trying to be mean to you or anyone else who disagrees with the technique or player or whichever I merely wanted the facts be out rather than be in the blind when accusing or bringing up or whatever.

Just because I "admire" a horse or player does not mean I agree with a lot of things they do or the like. Would *I* train my horse for 500 wins the way she has? No I'd give myself a slightly higher bar to reach but if she want to see how long it takes for the 500 at that training level then there should be no issue in it. Once a horse has over 20 wins they can't *see* under 20 so there will be more comps to show and there are always some showing at some point within reasonably small amount of time. Not to mention she may enter in comps with fully BLUP'd horses and aside from the fact that her name merits looking into while competing anyway.

You don't have to like her horse or her goal, but let *her* enjoy it.
