Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

Hey everyone! I'm back after a very long break. I don't know if I'm back for good, but I do want to get back crossbreeding. What is the best cross at the moment, in terms of winning a bunch of comps? I'm looking for my next comp monster, something that will win easily.

Any suggestions?

It depends on which comps your entering, but Fresian/KWPNs seem to work for me in Dressage.

What are some high stamina breeds that would do well with a TB in barrels and or reigning? I have a tb mare I bought for a gallop cross and I may as well make it worth my pass loldefault smiley :p
Gv and Arabian. Both are top stam breeds with good gallop.

Commander Drake

My newest cross. I am very happy with how they turned out. Yes he has a twin. I think I will skill him out and geld him and use his twin as to breed. What do you think?

Aire of Surprise

I got him BLUPPED and Beached for speed. What else can I do to get him to win Rosettes?
Just when I think I understand the cross breeding process, I get these Twins.

I know that a when breeding a 4 way cross, where all breeds will be 25% will result in the foals taking on the breed of the Sire's dam, and this also applies to breeding two 50/50s of the same breeding. So how are these two TBs and not Arabians?

-Grand Sire and Grand Dam both Arabian Dominant 50/50 - Arab/TBs. (Foundie Crosses, and the grand parents on both sides do to inbreeding)

-Parent came out TB dominant 50/50 - Arab/TBs

So in theory, these foals should be Arabian dominant 50/50 - Arab/TBs, right? Or am I getting something confused?

It's not the sire's dam, but which ever breed is listed second on the sire's page.
Usually it's the same as the sire's dam, but sometimes the breed order gets flipped.
If you want to know for sure what breed the foals will be, look at which breed is listed second on the sire's page.
Hmmm, let me dig into the Grand Sire then... that might explain everything...

Ok, I see where I went wrong now. And sadly, if I want Arab Dominant 50/50, I would have to start all over with my crosses. Sadly, I was three generations into this line, and I spent my one pass on Tears too. default smiley :'(

Ok, just to be sure I've got this second breed thing understood rightdefault smiley (lol)
(For ages I've been told it would take the sire's dam, so the 2nd listed breed has been new to me over just the last week or so)
Would this also apply to *whenever* you'll have an even percentage of more than one breed for the foal? So if you had a sire with 20% Quarter horse, 20% Shetland and whatever other smaller percentages to fill that up, and a dam with 20% Quarter 20% Shetland and whatever other percentages, then the foal would be a Shetland since that is listed second for the sire?

Here's what I do when I want to ensure a 50 - 50 cross stays as certain breed over generations: don't make it a true 50 - 50 breed default smiley (lol)

For example, this horse.
The skills are still the same as a true 50 - 50 cross would be. Of course, it can take a lot of work to get there.

That's not something I can say for certain because I have not tried myself, but I think so.
I hope someone else with more experience with complicated breed combinations can clarify.
Aha, found an example for my question except they're both colts but I'll pretend Bolt one for the question's sake XD

Both are Quarter horse dominant.
This will be my filly: pretend Ima filly
and this will be my colt still a colt!(Ima Tester is his name)
They both have Shetland and Quarter Horse listed as 26.7%. "Still a colt"(Ima Tester) has Quarter horse first, Shetland listed second, with "Pretend Ima filly" reversed: Shetland first, Quarter horse 2nd.

The foal should be a Shetland then since it's listed second on the sire?

@bibbs, yes, that should be correct. In my case, I started backwards in the Sire's line to get an Arab dominant 50/50 line. This is what happened:

-Pure Arab Sire + Pure TB mare = Arab Dominant Stallion(2nd TB)

-Bred Said stallion with sister of same breeding = TB Dominant Stallion (TB stayed 2nd)

-Got TB Dominant foals (TB still 2nd)

In short, my gens of crosses went:

- Gen 1 Arab Dominant

- Gen 2 TB Dominant

- Gen 3 TB Dominant

- any gen to follow, if I were to keep breeding the same, would result in a TB Dominant foal.

From what I have gathered, I can fix this by breeding a new foundie Cross. This time making a TB dominant foundie stallion, witch would have Arab as the Second breed, witch would pass on the Arab as second breed to his offspring.

My head hurts now. Lol XD

Thank you though! Sorry, I must've been typing my second post and didn't see your response. My computer has a lag with responses sometimes even when I refresh. A post will randomly appear above mine when it wasn't there when mine officially posted

Don't get me starteddefault smiley :p

In any case for my example I can try to breed for one of those foals to be a filly so I don't have to waste a Z.Bolt, then cross them together to check what breed it will be. I finished that particular project a while back, but for the sake of an experiment, why not? hehe

So I guess a rule of thumb while breeding 50/50 crosses, if you want to maintain a set breed of dominance, start with the opposite of what you want the line to be. In my case, I want Arabian Dominant 50/50s. So I should:

- Breed a Pure TB Stallion to a Pure Arab Mare to get a TB dominant foundie cross stallion.

- Breed him to any Arab/TB - 50/50 cross mare, to get a Arab Dominant stallion(who's second breed will be Arab)

That way, all of his offspring, when bred to any 50/50 - Arab/TB mare, will be an Arab Dominant foal.

One step closer to this project.

Anyone want to use the parents?

Did you want to keep going with the line or was this supposed to be your "end foal" for the project? Since the twins you posted have Arab listed second, then if you bred the twins to each other, would you not then get an Arab dominant foal to keep the line going?

Can somebody please help me with understanding my X bred Lady Victoria? I would be very happy indeed if I knew what on earth to do with her.
@bibbs

Haha I didn't even realize that! Thanks! I guess thay blow my theory out of the water then. XD

When in doubt, breed a tester foal, especially if you're wanting to use Tears eventuallydefault smiley (y)

Lady Victoria

Do you mean comp wise or what should you breed her with? Her skills are the same as a TB, with the high gallop. Jump is higher though from the Trakehner.

You've trained Gallop too high for an easy rookie blup. And you have her western which will make this difficult... Here's how I would finish her out.

Fully train Gallop, Stamina, and Jump.
Barrel comps until no gains.
Train Speed.
Trail comps until no gains
Train Dressage.
Forest rides until no gains.
If you don't have 20 wins, enter some breed-only WP comps and cross your fingers for wins.
Mountain rides to finish blupping.

You should have used a TB or Paint blup schedule when you started on her.

Hi all, as many of you are aware I had compiled a table comparing every breed's top 3 skills.
Is there any other information that would be helpful to you that I could compile in one easy location, instead of spending time flicking from page to page?

Feel free to PM me if need be.
