Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Arabs and Gypsies have essentially the same skill set, so they'd do well in XC.

An Arab/Fri cross would depend on if it has Jump or Trot as one of it's top 3. It'd do well as either an XC or a WP comper.

Hi guys, I need help figuring out some stuff:

Stallion (50% KWPN x 50% Selle) + Mare (KWPN) = 75% KWPN 25% Selle Foal 1

Foal 1 (75% KWPN 25% Selle) + Mare (Selle) = 50% KWPN 50% Selle Foal 2 (???)

My question is, would Foal 2 return back to half and half (50% KWPN 50% Selle)?

They get half from each parent so...

Foal 1 - - - - + - - - Mare = Foal 3
KWPN: 37.5% .+. 25% .=. 62.5%
Selle: 12.5% . . +. 25% .=. 37.5%

So your foal from the 1st foal and the 50/50 mare would be 62.5% KWPN and 37.5% Selle.

Arab x GV just makes another Arab or GV lol. If you're trying to boost GP for comps and skills then a GV mare on an Arab stallion would be fine. But otherwise it's a pointless cross.

Arab x Fry would have very meh gallop and trot, so would not make a good Dressage horse.

I've been playing around with crossbreeding, using my own mares and other's studs. This is my highest GP/Skill production so far- but I'm curious, what is the ideal way to get high skills? I typically only breed with tears/+70 BLUP, and am trying to produce horses that can win rosettes.

Castor- CB production

You need to breed with high GP and high blup to get good IBS in your foals(and Tears to make it even better). So whenever you plan to do a skiller, you shouldn't use less than 100 blup in both parents. Especially if you use Tears, otherwise you're not getting the full use out of the item if you're only breeding with 70 blup or so.

If you'd like to see the difference you can use this Howrse GP calculator. It lets you see what IBS you can potentially get with different blups and with/without A. Tears.

You're basically doing all you can do. A horse's skills (once all trained) are determined by it's GP, how many lessons it does, if/where beach rides are used, and it's IBS (determined by parent's BLUP and use of tears). Just keep breeding high GP horses with high BLUPs until you get there! default smiley ^)

Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone had good advice on a KWPN cross rosette winner, like what two breeds would mesh well together?

KWPN x Selle are good rosette winners, but you have to have close to top GP in order to get higher skills.

Since a few of us have been discussing breed determination of an evenly crossed foal I thought I'd share one of my Gen 3 foals from my All Breed Project.

My little Chinco Pony here has 8 breeds in her, and of the 5 that are shown only 1 came from her dam.
Her dam past on the last listed breed in her genetics, which was a Shagya Arabian.
The sire past on all 4 of his breeds.
This was the case for all 5 of my Gen 3 foals for this project: that the dam past on only 1 breed(which was the last listed breed) and the sire past on all of his.

I've been doing chinco+tb crosses for gallop, and am wondering if they might also be a good comper cross for Western comps?
By Retired breeder, 7th June 2016 03:34:41
looking for a speed cover, must be high gp and 100 bulp
So.. I did this.
Haven't been online in a while.
I'm completely out of the loop, does anyone have any tips on what to do with this filly? (and possibly her twin, I don't know yet.)

Yesterday I finished Icarus, my Appie x TB, and I am so pleased with him! Not only is he #1 for Appie gallop but he is also one of my first crosses to win rosettes in high level comps. This combo is definitely a keeper.

That's awesome! I haven't yet had a homebred win rosettes, so that's definitely one of my cross goals.

I also bred a Appie/TB cross awhile back as a booster for my comps and it's done pretty well in western comps

Congratulations serpentine
Thanks guys! I have yet to try one in western, and I probably won't get to it with this guy due to not having my VIP sub, unfortunately.

Hmm....how to lower Dressage and increase Gallop..... Should I breed this filly to another purebred Stang?

How far down do you want dressage? If you want it still as top three, add QH or TB. More mustang would make speed and stamina top two, with gallop, jump, and dressage very similar.
