Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

@serpentine
Thanks! I know how to look up skillsets, lol. I just never remember which skills are for what. Especially for Western Comps. I never do those. Only on horses that are specialized when I get them.

I wish to attempt a Western comper but I am unsure as to which breeds are best suited for this specialty. Can anyone offer advice as to what I could cross an Arab with to Excell in Cutting?
Starry97, he looks like a wonderful horse and I love that coat default smiley :)

Maybe try crossing with a high speed breed? Bringing up the speed would help in gallop comps, and maybe barrels if it was Western.

I'm currently loving my latest and first Western cross Roses in the Water. I started out for Reigning rosettes, but though she can see a few, she's been placing 3rd. So I've switched to Barrels.default smiley :)

Arabs already have high stamina and dressage but would need more speed for cutting. Fjords have speed as their top skill with stamina and dressage as the other two, or maybe you could try a purebred spanish...their top 3 is speed, dressage, and gallop. I'd go with the Fjord though if you can find one that's GP suits you.

Also to add ^
Paint's also have the same skill set as purebred spanish...speed, dressage, and gallop with lower jumping. Quarter ponies and Argentinian Criollos have "ideal" cutting skills with Stamina, Dressage, and Speed as their best.

I'd still go with the Fjord if it was me personally, but you do have other good options default smiley :)

You could cross her with a Lippi and improve on those nice reining skills default smiley :p

I totally didn't notice that this mare has a stone, but if anyone wants a foal out of her, lemme know. Otherwise, I'll just coat her eventually and get rid of her lol

Forget About It!

I've got mortal mares collecting dust that can have 1 more foal, but I'm uh..playing with my new computer tonight lol

In any case, this weekend will be the arrival of my TB/Crio/QH...she's 6 months along today...and bred for a Welsh/TB. Could've done better but...it's hard to find a good Welsh stud in publics. Seems to be a rare breed to find.

My Latest cross from Surprise's Destiny and Aire of Surprise Baron of Surprise

I am going to geld and skill Baron out and use his twin as a stud. what do you think?
I keep changing my mind about what kind of cross I want to do, and it's really annoying me! I've messaged a few people asking for their opinions, but just recently, I decided to start rebuilding my EC, and now I'm looking at potential gallop crosses. Something that can boost my gallop comps, and win rosettes.

But because I'm rebuilding my EC, I've decided to push planning/skilling my new cross into July, so I can grab a few top GP foals from the sales, blup them and then use them to get some kind of profit from the public coverings.

AND, if all that wasn't enough to fry my brain, I have officially left school. That's me signed the forms and stuff. I am no longer a student, and that's terrifying. default smiley xd

That foal has some pretty even skills, apart from trot and jumping. Not sure if that will impact his wins or anything, though. It's been a while since I skilled/bred etc. But overall, that is a nice foal!

For cutting I would do Arab x TB as Stamina is TBs isn't too bad and their speed is good. Or Arab x PSH for the same reason. Arab's speed is just so bleh. Stam and Dressage are great, but yeah. Both crosses would also do well in reining and barrels, especially breed-only.

I breed lusitanos for Dressage, what cross breeding could improve their performance in dressage?

Dressage of course you need Dressage, Trot, and Gallop. Here's some suggestions.
(fyi...all skills are listed best to worst, *** is what I'd do if it were me, considering a lusitano's skill set)

To raise up Dressage, you could use...
***Friesian: Dressage, Trot, Stamina, Gallop, Jumping, Speed
Nokota: Dressage, Trot, Jumping, stamina, speed, gallop
Knabstrupper: dressage, trot, jumping, gallop, speed, stamina

Trot's tricky, but you could use...
***Peruvian Paso: Trot, speed, dressage, Stamina, jumping, gallop
Tennesse walker: Trot, Stamina, dressage, speed, jumping, gallop

and for gallop, there's...
***Quarter Horse: Gallop, dressage, speed, jumping, stamina, trot
***Welsh: Gallop, dressage, speed, jumping, stamina, trot

Lusis are THE BEST for Dressage. There is no way to improve their skills for it. Just work on breeding higher GP with better IBS (100 BLUP and A.Tears).

Any breed that improves Trot will decimate Canter. Any breed that improves Canter will bring down Trot. Any breed that improves Dressage will bring down Trot or Canter or Both.

If you want to go for a different comp, you could breed Lusi x KWPN x Selle x Aussie. Leave Stamina untrained and beached down. Beach up Jump. Then you'll have a breed-only comp stomper for XC and you'll do well in Show Jumping breed-only and Open.

You'd need to breed a Lusi to a public cover of KWPN or Selle. You want a colt that has Lusi listed second on the genetics tab breed list. Then breed the other two for your mare. Blup and breed the two crosses together for an equal 25% of each breed with Lusi dominant.
