Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Very Nice! You gonna do western with him? He looks like he could do well in reining and WP. (Barrels too, with lower speed).

Speed Project What are your thoughts on this guy?

Very nice! I don't know that I've seen a skill set quite like that before, and you'll have loads of comp options available to you.

Hmm...I'd like to try a cross like that, but I might try upping speed and letting jump go maybe. *runs off to look at spreadsheets*

Thank you all. I am not sure if I want to do western or classical with him. Since he has a twin, I might do one in each
Weee, I have so many new crossy babies to show offdefault smiley :d

The GP would've been better on this guy, but any higher GP stud in publics would've costed quiet a lot! Not a lot of Welsh breeders out there.

Now I won't have many crosses for a while, as many mares have been retired.

I still really want to do a Western comper. What breeds have you all have success with in western?
Well everyone, I am quite happy as today I finished my All Breed Project from Foundations that I officially started back in Februarydefault smiley <:o)
United As One was born today, and she's a Holsteiner mare, with all the breeds on Howrse found in her family tree.

I started out with all (original 350-351.2GP) foundations and went from there. Except for a foundation Quarter Pony stallion I own all the horses in her line so I can ensure they don't disappear from the family tree.

I saw a few other players had done an all breed project and wanted to do one of my own, and while it was quite fun, I am glad it's finisheddefault smiley (lol)

I have 2 TB and App crosses and they turned out to bee Apps and they have the same top 3 skills as a TB so I was wondering if I could BLUP them as if they were TBs? Anyone know?

@snowycreekstables - Yes, since the Spot and TB have the same skill set, training should be the same.

Okay, how about a CriolloxQH cross. Would that work for a Western?

Potentially. With that cross you'll for sure have speed and dressage in the top 3 and either stamina or gallop as the third (depending on each of the parent's GP) and the other not far behind. Cutting, barrels, and reining all use 3 of those four skills, plus it'd have lower trot and be able to win WP pretty easy. You'd be well out of luck in trail though default smiley ;)

Hey all. I haven't posted here in a while. I used to be really into crossbreeding, and I'm thinking about getting back into it, or at least blupping one horse for now. Not sure if I want to do a comp monster or a rosette winner though. I have the BMI to do either I believe, but I'm not sure which breeds are on top at the moment, so any ideas? Thanksdefault smiley ^)

I'm thinking of making a high stamina cross. Right now the top female stamina GP is a Criollo, but the jumping is a bit too low for me.

If I were to cross the Criollo with a Vanner, would that bring the jump up enough to make a decent XC horse? I could also cross the Criollo to a Trake, and then cross that baby to a Vanner...

Which route do you guys think would be better?

Has anyone crossed a KWPN with a Selle? Thinking about trying that for Rosettes.......I used to breed KWPNs and Australian Ponies, and they were okay with Rosettes. If I don't do that, any idea for a comp monster? I haven't tried one of those yet. I done a Rosette winner an taken over the #1 spot for a breed so far, but no comp monstersdefault smiley :-))

Lol I think that's one of the most popular SJ crosses- Lots of people have done them.

Yep, as stated, that is a quite popular cross. I bred Green here a while back as part of an Aussie cross project. I haven't done anymore comps than the ones I needed to blup her, but she she won pretty easily if I remember right. I didn't have to get too strategic or use fillers or anything

From my experience, they are very good competition horses.
I've done two, but here is my first one. I likely could have acquired more wins if I entered more competitions, but it's still one of the best competition horses that I have ever bred.
