Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Of course default smiley :) If you like you can have that one. Literally, this is just a mad spree of crossbreeding with a new mare just to see what I can get out of her with different experiments default smiley :) Think of this as like an experimental giveaway default smiley (lol) Or, a made-to-order foal I guess. Either way you look at it.

I'm actually loving this mad breeding spree though. If I had the Passes I'd do this all the time haha.

If you crossbreed certain breeds long enough and then start to purify the bloodline again will you ever get back to full blooded animals with better skills then those who weren't cross bred before? That's something I always wondered, like if I cross bred a Lusitano with a Tenessee walker would I be able to get Lusitano's with better trot in the end?

Maybe, but you would never be able to get back to pure.

Ooh!!! default smiley (7)default smiley (7)default smiley (7)

Why do you want lower dressage? Just to get into lower level comps?
Personally, I'd want to preserve the dressage trot and gallop but cross to something to pull down their speed and stamina (since that won't really help you in dressage). I'd love to see what would happen if you crossed to a Knab... but that's just me. I'm obsessed with Knabs. default smiley (lol)
If you ever do cross to a knab and want to sell the result, please do let me know. Or even if you just want to sell a horse like him. I love that cross...

I've actually got a twin... I'll sell him to you. PM me and we can work the details.

No you cannot any more, they changed it a few years ago as it allowed the smaller breeds to make huge leaps by breeding to something else with much higher GP and breeding back to pure
So now once a horse is crossed, no matter how many times you cross back to the same breed, it will always have at least 1% of the other breed in it as well

As stated, you can't breed back to purebred again once you start crossing.

Also, while you might start out with a mostly-Lusitano with higher trot, that gain in trot will come at the expense of another skill. With a Walker, that would be gallop, and gallop is another skill that you need for dressage comps. As you dilute the cross down, close and closer to Lusitano, your boost in trot is going to dilute further and further too.

twin

Starry97

check out the girls they are twins let me know if you would like one.

You can get horses with 99% of one breed and 1% of another but you will never get an animal 100% one of breed again. Although the traits of the 99% breed will be exactly as though the horse is 100% blooded.

Your link to me to one of my horses, the links work better if you get the link from a horses public page
What if I did a stallion that was sired by a PP, the dam was a holstiener and bred him with a mare that was sired by a KWPN, and the dam was a selle francais? Would it be a horrible foal?

Depends on GP and blup when it comes to crossing for me
I am seriously surprised that this one horse has won 20 comps in Open Trail Class. You would think that she'd get knocked all around by Nokos and Knabs since that's all of what was available for her as a Morgan......I guess those breeders stick with Breed Only or that they're so far ahead that their Rookie comps surpassed hers in difficulty. Still though, I am happy about it and it adds another horse that basically just needs to be aged and bolded before being bred.
