Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

hi friends,

wanting to start cross breeding again after a hiatus! Have a decent amount of resources (passes/BMI)--what's a fun cross I can start with? (just a 50x50 cross is cool for now) and what are some of your favorites to do? default smiley :)

Depends on what you want the horse to be.

Try a KWPN x Shetland. If the mother is a good KWPN, you can get a Shetland with higher than purebred GP and top a few rankings and win a bunch of comps. I've never done one, but the idea just occurred to me and now I might have to try it.default smiley (lol)

I made a cross like that a while ago!

Sтαяgαzєя

He turned out to be a great comper, so that is a nice idea!

- Four -

One of my first *kind of* decent crossbred. One day, if I could get my hands on a couple of higher skill mares, I would like to give this another go with the hopes of breeding a prix horse. What do you think ?

Hey, ive recently started crossbreeding with a mare and a stallion that have 25% each of four different breeds each. I bred a foal from them but it only shows 5/8 breeds at 20%. Why is this?

Ok my question wasn't answered from a few pages back, so I will post it again. Can anyone give me tips on breeding a good crossbreed dressage horse?
By Retired breeder, 30th July 2016 15:32:56

"Good" is a very broad term on Howrse.
Good in what way, exactly? For low level dressage comps / for high level dressage comps / just high dressage skill / better than pure Lusitano?

The last option is impossible, by the way default smiley ;)

Just high dressage skills

Use breeds with high dressage. Cross breeding is simply maths - the foal will get a GP and skill set of an average of the parents.

Does anyone know if top shetland groups give out coverings? Im looking for one and dont know where to look.

They might? Just to to Achievements, then Best Teams, click on the breed you want, and look through the presentations (and affix presentations) of the teams you're interested in. You can also always just message someone on the team and ask them...

Only five breeds ever show in the genetics tab. Since all the breeds are even, the five shown are 20% each. Could you post a link to the foal? I'd like to know what the parents and grandparents were that made some breeds show instead of others.

Found him. This eight way cross turned out to be his father's second listed breed, which was the breed of his great grandsire on his father's mother's side.default smiley 8-)

If anyone else has eight way crosses, can they post links to them?

I want to have a few to compare to make sure this isn't just an accident. If it always turns out like this, we can make horses of any breed with GP close to the game's best horses. It might take so long they get outdated before the fourth and final generation of the project is done, but still would be useful.

Anyone have a 50/50 galloping cross dam that they're willing to give me a foal from? 6500+ GP would be preferable. No PSH or Lusi blood please. Thanks. default smiley :)
What breed/s are dressage, stamina, and trot dominate?
I have a few ideas in mind for a nice cross.

^ Tennessee Walker is the first one that comes to mind. I don't really use western comps.
Can't quote on mobile, but Mystical Sprite Shetlands gives covers. We aren't super high GP yet though.

Hey guys, i really want a horse (preferably crossbred) that will win rosettes. I dont care which discipline etc. What two breeds would be the best? Im looking for a cross that will end up with at least 8800+ skills and over 6600 GP.

Thanks.
What type of rosettes? A Selle Francais x KWPN would be good for show jumping.

The best for rosettes are usually purebreds, as far as I've been able to tell. Maybe TB x Mustang? You would definitely be able to see rosettes.
