What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

I believe I may have settled on breeding original haflingers. I've hit a wall with competitions. But, I have quite a few Haflingers I've bought to start with.

Does anyone have any Russian Dons around 460 GP that could be used as fillers? The last generation I had only scraped 3 wins each, so I gave up and moved on, hoping their offspring would manage better. I'm have 0 luck default smiley :(

Do you still need these? I have some Foundies that I can fill with as well as some AP horses that are Dons (most have a higher GP, but their skills are still low).

Curious - how do the new foundies with high GPs affect NIB breeding? I am from the time of 350.00 foundies, or 351.20 with games. I feel like all of the hard work to get green stars would be affected by these new foundies with high GPs!

Also just saw the message above me. I have some old GP foundies, most are untouched foals. If anyone is interested and could offer these guys a nice & permanent home, please message me! I've held on to all of my foundies, and would love to keep them safe, but also didn't realize that they could be helping someone!

I've read that purchasing all of your breeding stock is the best way to go for NIBing... I want to go the NIB route w/ my Kerry Bog from the memory game, bit she's @ about 85 BLUP, so I'm wondering if there's an easy way around it (like screen shots of pedigrees or something? ) or if owning Is the only 100% way around it.

There is indeed huge difference. When we NIB both old and rolling gain foundies the GP is all over the place.
It's easier to get stars now though. Pre change it took several old GP generations to get a star. Not so any more.

As an example let's take 1831 GP Drum horses. I've gotten first gens that span from 1865 to 1908. Second gens go from 1911 to 1949 (1831 GP stock). 4th and 5th gens are also more evenly distributed.

Same with the 350 GP''s. First generations again. They tend to span from 387 to 463. The high number comes from studs that are equipped with Nyx, Woy, Helios etc... the hole nine yards of expensive fluff. (So that seems to make a massive difference on the low GP's - haven't tested it on Drums)
Second gens are more even GP wise 445 to 481, and 3rd gens the same spanning from 518 to 524.

The difference used to drive me completely batty. But since the change seems to be here to stay, I've had to accept it.

@Bwoller I use spreadsheets.

I cannot quote my own post. But if you go to page 1650 and check my post (April 15th). You can see how I go about keeping track of my lot.

It may seem like overkill, and I'm sure there is an easier way. But 2 of my main projects are quite massive numbers wise, so I prefer to be 100% sure I do not inbreed some stock by mistake.

If you use public covers you always take the risk that the studs used will vanish from the game at some point. But some do take screenshots to have proof the studs aren't inbred. How ever most NIB'ers prefer to own their own stock.
There is how ever no right or wrong way to NIB. You just have to be able to trace the pixels bloodlines.

How on earth did I miss the change that made it so unicorns can only be covered by other unicorns? I have a bunch of lovely old 351.2 unis that I'm BLUPing, finished the first one today....and discovered I can't cross her with one of my 350 GP stallions as I'd planned (I use old foundies, and like crossing low to high GP. I've always figured the unis can be used to make other unis *after* they contribute to my regular NIB herd).

Bad enough that I have to cross 351.2 with other 351.2 now - which, given the GP changes, likely won't make much difference from a breeding standpoint, it just sets my OCD to twitching - but I've found I have an uneven number of uni mares and stallions. How vexatious!

I had planned to use some old GP's on an all foundie (all breeds project). Was a tad upset when Howrse changed it so you can no longer breed a uni to an no horn.

..on a happy note there are a lot of foundies up in sales right now. And I do mean a LOT. Search for under 70k purebred riding horses and there they are. tempted to grab some of them.

Thanks! That is some really neat organization there!

I did a little bit of research & it looks like the price of 1 public covering isn't a heck of a lot cheaper buying a Kerry Bog from the auctions, so I think that I'll go that route after all.

I'm not sure if anyone is actively looking for foundies right now, but I've been able to pick up a fair few today. It may be because people are selling them after winning the horse of a random breed from the cards, but I managed to find 3 for less than 10K each this morning. I haven't been doing NIB long enough to know if that's a particularly good deal, but it seemed a fair bit cheaper than other foundies I've seen for sale lately.
