What is a NIB horse?
A NIB horse is a horse that is not inbred; every horse in its pedigree appears only once (with the exception of Ouranos and Gaia). Horses with "Horse Disappeared" in their pedigree are generally not accepted by NIB breeders unless the horses in question were bought before the horses disappeared and have verifiable pedigrees.

Are there green star NIB horses?
These horses have lower GP than green stars and other top horses, as not inbreeding limits the breeding availability and is slower to progress than breeding brothers to sisters and so forth.
**Misabel edit: The first Green star NIB horse was created on February 21, 2011 - a 6th generation Connemara pony with a star in stamina. He was the end result of a lot of hard work and effort, but now that some dedicated breeders have shown it can be done, we all have something to shoot for!

Are NIB horses considered better than green stars or inbred horses?
Goodness, no! Nobody here is attempting to make that claim. Just like the Zero GP horses, these players choose to play the game in their own challenging way.

How can I get involved with NIB breeding?
It's simple! Start by purchasing a few foundation horses, or horses whose pedigrees can be tracked down and verified as non-inbred. Then carefully breed them to create foals with good GP's and skills that are not inbred!

Alassíeℓ - I collected quite a few foundation Friesian unicorns and one day I plan on doing something with them, but just haven't had the time yet (same with my NIB Friesians!) I keep on telling myself when I run out of Hanoverian foundations to work with I'll move to the next breed, but there's always more work to do with the black hano's I'm working with.

aml919 - I work with Hanoverians and have never tried Arabians, but its neat to know that someone else is doing some sort of colour project with NIB's

always - lol, there's always work to be done, it's really hard to get away from a breed that you love. I know I'll always be working on my Friesians, I love that breed.

livelyblueyes - That is great to hear...I give them my utmost respect! I know there is not very many that do. I am not certain what I'm going to do with my unicorns, if I should even attempt it or not.

Forest Queen - I felt exactly the same about the GP jump and to be honest it really threw me and was part of the reason I lost interest in my NIB arabs. It just felt so disheartening - however I suppose there's nothing that can be done about it, so for now I'm just accepting that the GP jump between generations will keep widening...frustrating, yes, but when I think about all the time it takes to get to higher gens it's obvious that earlier lines and generations are still going to be very valuable.

The GP jumps do worry me, particularly considering how slow (and often unmotivated!) I am at BLUPing and breeding my lot. But like some of you say, all those early gen horses will retain value when you consider just how many foundations are going to be needed to get to gen 10, for example.

always - I have a couple of Hano fillers that I got to help a foundy Hano I own with a retired GA coat get her wins. I will pop them in any of your comps if I spot your horses.

Yay, default smiley ^) Thanks to Dr Zig's stally I got now a baby stally ( Barb) with 353.66 / 93 ( yes used tears). Also got Barb mare 353.98 on way to get bluped. Unfortunately same mother so must keep them apart. Dont know how to link them here but affix is Bad Mon Rising.

I have NIB Appy Cowrns. Unfortunately, you can't get very far with only 6 foundations, and sadly we lost one of the foundations, so now we are down to 5. I have a filly that has all 6 foundations in her default smiley :)

I have few foundation Don and NIB - haven't really started with them yet

I just got frustrated when trying to buy good and cheap horses - all you ppl from USA overbidding me while I'm sleepingdefault smiley :'(

Changed breed and since there were foundation horses at sale I thought I can as well go to NIB project.


Anyway - I did some math and started to think again... after few generations amount of horses needed will be insane when you accept each horse only once.

Would it be totally impossible idea to make NIB breeding slightly easier and make it possible to use same horse several times?

I dont feel right to use brother and sister or son to mother or grandfather to young mare but... if you have 2 horses and look back generations without any inbreeding... and then find that there actually 1 stallion in both lines far far away...

Marriage would have been allowed for humans and probably nobody even remembered that "cousin steve" but that mistake will ruin your horses chance to be NIBdefault smiley :$


Ofc its easy to make things clear when you say "NIB is horse with no parent more than once in their lineage" but that will make things insanely hard at generation 10+


I would love to start NIB project but if that kinda demand that I buy hundreds and thousands foundation horses to keep going... that might be too much for me and make me feel bad for even thinking to "use" those foundation horses I currently havedefault smiley :(

Well, needing an insane number of foundies is just one of the downsides of NIBing, and that's why I'm doing paints. Many people (US in particular) know paints and will pick them for their first horse, so there are more foundies out there. Unfortunately, with the Dons, there are only so many of them, and they aren't always more and more because you can't get them when you first start your game.

However, if you wnat to use your horses more, I believe that there would be nothing wrong with having more than one line of horses, just don't cross the two lines and they are still NIB.


However, to get into many, many Generations, you will need a LOT of horses.
It takes a while to get through a few generations though because you have to BLUP&Breed seperate horses, and the number of horses increases every generation

NIBing is not for the faint of heart. It is an extremely hard way of breeding. The challenge it presents holds a lot of the appeal for those who are hardcore NIBer's.
It is not a GP race although .. just as anyone else is we are happy to get those high GPed NIb horses. It is easiest when you have several individuals who have the same goal and are working together.
You can call those individuals you work with breeding partners,friends or whatnot.
Kaliko ,HYDEIST and I had our original lines cross into each others herds .. now we are working on new horses with no relation to our originals and until the 3rd generation or so we will not be crossing those lines with each other.
What I am saying is .. it's not something you do for the numbers,or how easy it might be( trust me its not).. it's something you do because it's what you enjoy. If it something that is more of a pain in the rear than you get enjoyment out of it the odds are it may not be for you.
Evryone has something they enjoy about this game whether it be the Starred inbreds or the zero gp project. All in all .. , it boils down to finding something that appeals to you and sticking with it even if no one else agrees. In the end this game is something we all do for enjoyment.
MY best wishes to you .. but NIBing involves BLUPing a heap of horses .

I didnt think you are mean, someone has sometimes decided that NIB horse is from lineage where each horse is used only once and thats it.

It might be that since I have been thinking dog breeding in real life and there big inbreeding is very bad and will soon make severe dmg BUT also its impossible to breed without any inbreeding when you follow line far enough...

Its just real life breeding experience crashing with game mechanics default smiley ;)

I think I can start and I know I feel my responsibility about foundation horses so I will make sure those horses will live and have many foals. And when its their time they will go to heaven, not just disappear.

Shadowbird, the great thing about NIB breeding is that you do what you want with it. If you want to cross lines in later generations & you are happy with that, then go for it. There are no rules except what you make for yourself! Some NIBers only breed across the same generation, other mix generations, no right, no wrong, just what you want to make of it for yourself.

Enjoy the game, that's the main point. If someone else doesn't agree with how you play, then so what.

I train some NIB arabs for my mom but she does all the breeding. She buys me passes to use on my own horses, good deal for me!

livelyblueyes - you are so right that NIB is not for the faintheated! I have 43 pairs of foundation arabs right now. I should be able to go 7 generations with them if I only breed each horse 1x. Assuming a 4 point average increase in gp with each generation, my one 7th generation horse should only have a gp of about 375! That's just short of the 380 you need for a green star. Not very encouraging if you aren't determined!

From the way it looks, my unicorns may have to just go the gp route, all though their first generation foals (the rejects) would work fantastic for my NIB project.

Rivenwood is there anyway you make it so that older players can get a Gaia foal? I want foals, but I don't buy passes, and I would love to get at least one foundation of each of the breed that I am working on....

I am breeding Paints, Morgans, QHs, Appys, and Mustangs default smiley ;) All great western horses default smiley :)

And I have had most success with my QHs, and my Appys. Any help with any of my breeds and those breeds would be greatly appreciated default smiley :) I got to 354.29 I believe it is with my Appys, and I got to 357. something with my Palomino QH default smiley :) I am so happy! Sorry just had to say how good it feels to get high GP with NIB breeding default smiley :)
