Howrse turns 20!

HellOw everyone,

It's already been 20 years of Howrse!

20 years of breeding, competing, collecting, sharing, customizing, grinding...

A game is nothing without its players! Thank you for making Howrse what it has been for the last 20 years: a community game where you never play alone.

Let us know what your best memories of Howrse are.default smiley (ow)

Happy Twentieth Anniversary!

If they didn't plan anything else I kinda wish they'd just SAY that and take away what they will from this anniversary. Like it would have still been a disappointing event, but saying "oh, no, there's actually more!" and then going radio silent and also not doing anything else just makes them look dishonest. default smiley (o)

Yes, I'm waiting for a "sorry everybody, here's the 'more' we promised," or at the very least "sorry everybody, we don't actually have the 'more' we promised. Move on."

my fear is that their solution is everyone is going to get a free Viginti. Cause that was a huge complaint about the whole thing. it's great for the people who couldn't get him but stinks BIG time for those of us who spent an absolute fortune (I spent 2600+ passes) to get him. it'd be ok if having a second one was useful but since it's not it would really stink

I had to use at least 5000 passes to get him...If they were to decide to give him away for free now to somehow think that it would fix everything then you can bet I'm going to want my passes back too!!! default smiley :k

For me, the 20th anniversary celebrations just underline the way this game is heading.

For the 15th anniversary, there was a unique event that gave away Quindecim and it was virtually impossible NOT to receive him. It was a simple challenge and there was no spending involved.

Five years later, the anniversary consists of a regular promo that we get all the time and that, for some, will involve spending passes.

The extra celebrations that were promised don’t appear to have materialised and are unlikely to, nearly two weeks after the event. We got the star rain, that we get on Howrse’s birthday anyway, and some players were lucky enough to walk away with a mash. We got reserved sales, that we often get anyway, which involved players spending passes. We got pack offers that we frequently get, that involved players spending real money.

How is that a celebration Howrse? For the accountants maybe it was a celebration, but from the feedback here, it certainly wasn’t much of a celebration for the players….you know the ones that have kept you going for those 20 years.

The developers have messed up big time and, as they so often do, have caused bad feeling with their salary payers. They were warned on Preprod that this was the wrong sort of event to release Viginti, but clearly it was too good an opportunity to sell, sell, sell rather than give a little back to the players who have got them to this milestone.

I'm not sure if we keep complaining about the 20th anniversary that it's going to reach the right ears. They obviously lied to us saying there was more to come. That was almost 2 weeks ago. "A game is nothing without its players" doesn't mean too much obviously

And having a giveaway on Discord doesn't count for those of us who don't do Discord!! We play on the actual game that is celebrating 20 years!!

I'm be honest at this point I'm just surprised this thread isn't locked with the most generic gpt-written "hope you all had fun see you in 2045!" with absolutely no acknowledgement about the 2+ weeks of completely ignoring the players and broken promises.

Like, I have no idea why even Howrse one day randomly decided to make Discord this big thing, it's ridiculous honestly ಠ◡ಠ Yess, games do use social media, mostly to post promotional material, but Howrse is taking it a step too far...and I still refuse to participate in this Discord nonsense on one simple principle, they took away forums on all the other versions of the game in exchange for this "revolutional" Discord idea, soo, no thank you, I don't care about giveaways or anything on there, even if they decided to give free divines to everyone on there or something huge like that...if you want to reward your players, do it in the actual game we play!

lets not forget they nerfed the typical style of this game just to introduce viginti.
They KNEW that players would want multiple of the main divine (I know for me I spend thousands during the cards to get the main divine dupes) and yet they still decided to keep a divine where dupes are useless in a spot where players WANT to get dupes???
So they ruined a good event to introduce a divine that could've been given out like they did with quindecim.

Another pack, yet still nothing else in regards to an actual celebration for the 20th anniversary that was actually unique.

You know if they had thrown a bone for us with more celebrations or literally anything that wasn’t slapped behind a paywall or terrible odds I might have bought this pack because I would like another Rongo for eternal farm hand contract. But since there’s no passes in this offer and since I am actually starting to get salty I will not be buying this one.

don't you love being ignored. maybe if they had more active admin something might be done. there are 9 admins listed. only FOUR have logged in in the last YEAR. someone said many left. why haven't they been replaced. maybe if they got people working they'd get things accomplished

When admins leave their post, their Accounts are left active and maintained because if they were deleted forum posts they created would need reformatting and a lot of background work. So starting from ZOwey, they decided to just maintain the accounts and save themselves the headache. Understandable.

Idk what the rules are on mentioning something like this, but for those of you who don’t know, Ubisoft just had multiple disastrous video game launches in the past few years. Losing millions of dollars kind of disastrous. They’ve cut lots of major departments. It’s big news in the video-game world.

I’m wondering if there has been significant cut to the budget of Howrse as well as significant pressure on Howrse from a struggling Ubisoft to either turn the game into a cash cow or to milk it for every penny while running it on a shoestring budget. It would explain a lot of things, like the constant offers, unbalanced events where some people like me get three divines for free while others get screwed over so FOMO pushes them to spend real-world currency for passes so they can get the end prize, parts of the game remain broken for years while new divines get churned out like once every two weeks, and more things I probably just can’t think of at this moment.

And if this is the case, maybe they literally don’t have the budget to code for anything special, even for a 20th Anniversary, just the ability to turn on the Star rain and other things. Maybe they did really try to push for us to get something else and failed. (If that’s the case, I wish they’d just SAY SO, but they’re probably muzzled on that point. It is interesting that they’ve left this topic open for us to just constantly whine and complain, tho.)

This feels like the end phase of a franchise, the “searching in the couch cushions for pocket change” stage where they nickel-and-dime you right to the very last day. Which is concerning, if true.

isn't failed game launches pretty common. I mean there's millions of games out there. some are going to work others are going to fail.

Ubisoft is a major game studio, not an indie developer. They pour hundreds of millions of dollars and multiple years into game launches, games that are the “big news” of the year in the community, only for those game to completely fail to make their money back.

Studios also go under all the time when their games consistently underperform. Tell me, do you think Howrse will somehow survive if Ubisoft goes under?
