Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

Edit by pixiesbite

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

I'm thinking of getting into cross breeding and creating a line of Akhal Teke's x Gypsy Vanners. with the view of increasing the skills of an Akhal Teke x. Ideally I'll aim to breed the line up using the huge GP gain Gypsy Vanners have over Akhal Teke's then breeding back so that while the horse is crossed it's breed will appear as an Akhal Teke.

Has anyone done this before or anything similar? Got any tips or tricks for me or has the contact details of someone I get info off.

Thx.

Gosh, colour breeding *tuts* default smiley xd

I breed paint and GV crosses, and was going to do knabs and appies too..

It'd be a good trot or cutting horse... hmm..
I better go work on my other cross, GV, Paint, Crillo. I need to breed paint back in.

Wanting to have a horse who has the potential to get a rosette in western pleasure, so I'm hoping to breed Rainy (her secondary and tertiary skills are pretty good) with a horse with roughly the same overall skills, but a much higher trot. I don't want to dilute her secondary and tertiary too much though, if possible. Any suggestions? default smiley 8-)
These two below (the KWPN X Thoroughbred) have the same skill spread as their mother despite being the same breed as their dad.

Athena (KWPN X Thoroughbred)

Changed (KWPN X Thoroughbred)

Secret Mission (Lipizzan X Thoroughbred)

Zoro (Argentinian Criollo X Thoroughbred)

Sorry if this has been addressed... I haven't been on Howrse in a looooong time. I was just breeding the quad-type of cross that I always used to successfully, where the resulting foal is 1/4th four different breeds but comes out as the same breed as the paternal granddam (sire's dam). I was just doing the same thing, but surprise! The foal is actually the father's breed. Does anyone know when this got changed, and why, if possible?

While I'm at it, does Howrse have some sort of "genetics" system for colors now? default smiley (lol)

The foal will be the breed that is listed second on the father's page. Usually it is the breed of the paternal grandmother, but sometimes the breed order gets flipped for mysterious reasons.

No, unfortunately.

was she teared?

if not, then with tears her skills would've been like 1864...which would be somewhere near max (I think) for that GP

I'm dipping my toes in cross breeding. I do Anglo Arabians and I always geld my colts after birth so the line doesn't go on.
Any major tips I should know?
She's Done! I only hope I can find or breed a stallion for her! She is #2 in Arabian Gallop and 13 in Arabian Speed! I have high hopes for her foals. ^-^

Always breed from 100 blup parents, though that's true for any breeding. You'll get the best foals. But I don't think there are really any 'major tips' for crossbreeding, since we all do what we want and we all do different things~

Also just finished this little lady and am waiting for the wins to come rolling in! I'm not going up to 25 years because I want to use those Arms to their full potential for coverings. Very happy with her, and I'm gonna do her twin tomorrow once comps have hopefully cleared a bit~

Pretty excited about this little lady! She doesn't look like much. But I think if I cross her back to a pure Knab I'll end up boosting Gallop without dropping Dressage or Trot.

At least I hope it works default smiley (lol)

The only thing I can think of is using either Hackney or TN Walker. Maybe friesian.

Hey fellow howrsers,
I have a paint/appy stallion that I'm trying to blup. Does anyone know a blupping schedule for this cross? If so pm me please.
By Retired breeder, 22nd April 2016 15:05:13

I'm thinking of doing the same, just gotta see how well my crosses do first before continue the line.

Only thing I can suggest is to do Gallop for skills and Trot and SJ for any wins needed,
