Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

Will have to look at him on comp lol

I got a walker mare but might see if I can get a full blupped one default smiley (8) any good paso teams giving out covers?
My sister just joined and wants to do Gypshians, like I did. Would gypsy Dom or Friesian Dom be better?

Skilled up two of my crosses and I'm really happy! Both were bred for the coat release this month~

Astraea

Sayen

Tomorrow Sayen will probably be either #1 or #2 Knabstrupper for Jump. It'll be a brief top ranking, but I'll be ecstatic if it's there for even one day.

I thought endurance had gallop too?
I bred this little tester foal to see if I'd get the dominant breed I wanted before I bothered to fully blup the dam. I knew the foal would have equal parts of the sire(Shetland cross) and dam's(Quarter H cross.) dominant breeds, so I assumed it would work like breeding 2 purebreds and the foal would take the sire's. It took the dam's and wound up a Quarter horse..default smiley (lol)

I wondered if it was either just a toss-up or it took the maternal grand-sire in this case since the parents are crossbreeds.

So, if I bolted both parents and made the stallion the dam and the mare the sire, if that would make the foal a Shetland instead of a Quarter horse?

currently the sire Shetland cross
currently the dam Quarter cross

Can anyone link me to a post that has all the comp skillsets for the upcoming promo? I'm still confused but I would like to get some breeding in this weekend if I can wrap my head around it.

I'm not versed in breed percentages/dominance beyond 5-ways, but the directory at the bottom of this topic has several links regarding breed dominance and how to calculate percentages that may help you out. As far as your bolting question goes - I would think so since if there were any "rules" regarding this kind of a breeding, involving the breed of the sire's whatever or the dam's whatever, it would be switched since the parents would be switched.

Thank you! So do I need a horse that has that skillset?

Yep. That promo is pretty much just a giant comp that you can do with a team or individually.
I did TB x KWPN for SJ and I'm planning on doing TB x TW for endurance. default smiley :p
Ohh okay, that makes a lot more sense now. I thought we had comps like the ones we do now. A feel a bit better now, thanks.

Guess I have a couple projects to work on this weekend. default smiley (lol)

@Serpentine
Thanks for the link! I'm getting better at determining percentages, but the breed dominance determination trips me up once in awhile if there are some equal percentages in there.
I'll try bolting the horses to see if that works. Thanks!

Yeah.. I'm doing it right now. I'm trying to blup my pure Thoroughbred mare to do the Tennesse Walker combo but these comps are taking /forever/ to fill up! I might even cross her with a KWPN because they offer higher GP coverings in the public coverings than TB's do. Right now my little show jumper has around 5600 GPA so hopefully I can raise that!

Endurance is what is making me mad though, there's nothing I like! The breeds with the perfect skillsets have low GP.
Wait... Serpentine, are you the one who despises KWPNs? default smiley :p
By Retired breeder, 27th February 2016 02:00:45
*5600 GP.. oops
Looks like school/my GPA is getting to me default smiley (lol)
At 6:30-9:30 tonight, I will run through every possible cross to determine the best for the World Championship. If I do not finish, which I probably won't considering I'm on an iPad mini, then I will continue tomorrow in little blocks of time so I do not get overwhelmed.

Good luck on your quest Audrey... you're so brave and heroic! default smiley (lol)
I on the other hand have to go buy some fillers since only 5 comps have gone through..

Notice how I do not say "I might" because then I will flop and not do it default smiley :p

Why?! I adore KWPNs! They're so fun to cross with, they make sensational jumpers! Some of my favorite crosses that I've seen have some KWPN blood. Stop hating on the poor babies :P

At least we have the advanced search option now, that should lessen the load so you don't have to go through every single cross you own.
Does anything have a suggestion for crossbreeding for balanced skills evenly?
