Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

If anyone has personal issues with another player, or needs something back from another player(items/passes), other than covers/fills-please take it to private pms...anymore posting here will mean an instant forum ban without a warning.

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

So my project is on the ground, just gotta get the AP to get her old enough, and the passes for a cloud pack, I have the other stuff I need. This little gal should be hot, hot, hot!

MochaLatte

She has a twin, and they have a sister who was my tester foal to make sure of the breed.
lovely Rorhi, can you say barrel comper?!

She will do well in barrels, lol, but she'll need XC for her BLUP. She should make RDH elite, I got her Nyx in exchanges, and just need the AP to age her old enough. Passes for cloud pack will come when needed, so I'm not too worried.

@Patrick oh wow that jump sure does go up with crossed with a Vanner. Decent IBS, too, for a crossbred.

Well I fail. Just bought a purebred Arab filly with 420.89 IBS and 1350.21 GP for 85k. Gonna skill her up and cross her with the skiller Vanner I'm gonna get out of my two 78* Vanners. Whee.....

Here is my newest cross: Samurai what do people think?

Just BLUPed a 75% Friesian 25% Standie cross. Any suggestions on breeding her?

A very nice Arabian would do her good. But it depends on what you are trying to breed for.

UGH! I am so stupid! I wanted to get that awesome foals twin but he was already sold default smiley :'(

I love the crosses! But why is like everyone doing GV with their lines?! lol
By Retired breeder, 30th November 2011 03:27:37
GV has advanced in GP fast enough that it is a good option to add GP to a cross line, and their skillset is also useful for cross breeding. Plus, the coat is a real favorite with a lot of people.

A good way to breed a horse like my Don that I bred today, is to blend together several high GP breeds for at least one parent, then breed the other parent from more high GP horses plus the best covering you can find for the breed you are aiming for.

For my RDH, I bred the best pure RDH I could find in public offerings to my best pure Lusi mare. I got a stallion from that, but with a really low GP for my tastes. I found a mostly Fry mare (her Paint percentage was so low, it dropped out when I bred her to a different cross), and a GV/Arab colt, bred them together, got a filly. I then bred that filly back to the GV/Arab stallion until I got a filly (took 6 times!). I BLUPed that last filly, and the RDH/Lusi stallion, bred a test foal to make sure of the breed (Lusi was at equal percentage to RDH, so I could have had a decent Lusi cross of a lower GP than I would like, and I didn't want to waster a Hera Pack in that event). I blew through over 150 AP (5 unneeded colts did not help at all, but they sold, they did have a nice GP, and they would be useful for the new objectives if someone threw a MA on them), but I got my lovely little RDH filly, and a couple of spares (the tester and the twin).

Special Occasion is not that new but I was thinking of selling her. Would she be more valuable skilled or BLUPped? Not advertising, i was just wondering which I should do with her.
Cross Breeding Query of Curiosity

Salutations,

So I've begun embarking on a perhaps strange project: I wish to try to breed a seriously amazing horse. With the dominant traits of Friesian, I have chosen other breeds to go into the mix:

Gypsy Vanner - Coat
Friesian - Coat / Dressage
Arabian - Stamina
Mustang - Speed
Lusitano - Dressage
Shetland - Jump
Marwari - Gallop
Hackney - Trot

Thoughts? Suggestions? Training tips?

Steel Ranger, a horse will only show its top 5 breeds.
By Retired breeder, 30th November 2011 06:30:28
@twilightaddict, I would definitely say she would be more valuable BLUPed.
By Retired breeder, 30th November 2011 06:33:56
Well, after buying passes I really shouldn't have to buy a horse for an objective, I managed to get what I needed to finish up my Don cross.

*JustLikeARockStar*

She should top the Russian Don elite board, and dressage and stamina. She actually ended up with good enough skills to make my Grand Prix team, and had enough dressage to stay in my EC longer term.

Hopefully she gets her wins, she should, she has enough comps left to run, I went ahead and totally finished her skilling.
By Retired breeder, 30th November 2011 08:48:13
@Steel Ranger only 5 will show up but that's not what's important. What's important is that you breed the right percentages to get the right horse with the right skill set. Make sure that when you cross two horses their skill sets will compensate for the lack in the other. Mars have poor trot and Standies have poor gallop but crossed they create a horse that's balanced in gallop and trot (and stamina and speed, incidentally).

You should breed one cookieblue. I do not think there are not any QH or QP breeders in here really.
