Finally a post just for us cross breeders. The purpose of this topic is for cross breeders to have a place to discuss their crossbreeding programs and to share crossbreeding secrets and advice with others who may be interested in giving crossbreeding a try. Feel free to talk about your crossbreeding programs and your achievements and failures in crossbreeding.
Please remember to follow the rules of the forum and be informative and helpful. default smiley :-))

Reminder to all.

Please do not advertise sales or items wanted in this topic. I can turn a blind eye to the covers being offered (as long as they are not blatant advertisements) because we are, after all, trying to help each other progress and there is no filter on public covers for searching for crosses, but items sales and items wanted do not belong in any of the public forums and we have a sales forum for horse sales so please, lets keep our topic clean of the ads.

Thanks everyone

There are reasons for rules and everyone is expected to follow them. There will be no posting of advertisements in this topic and everyone is expected to be respectful. Any disrespect towards fellow players or moderators will not be tolerated. Anyone posting advertisements will receive a forum ban without prior warning. If breaking of rules continues to take place in this topic I will delete it.

Thank you

A reminder that this is not the place for trading/buying/selling BMI, horses or advertising or asking for someone to train your horse.
If any of these things occur, you will be forum banned without prior warning.

I told my friend in real life that I cross breed on howrse, and she said even though it's a game, it's still wrong. I don't care what she thinks, though.
By Retired breeder, 16th June 2010 06:06:05
crossbreeding is not wrong.. how do you think the current breeds came about.. humans crossbred horses with certain traits to get other certain traits..

all horses / ponies are from the family Equine!!!
Ok, I seem to have screwed up somewhere, and since this is the thread for crossbreds, what on earth do you do to blup if the horse only has 2 top skills? I've got 3 bolded for her (the 3 that should have been her top skills), but she's still only at about 25 blup...

Do you thunk she's a good Anglo Arab foal? Cali
deidara, do you have a link to the horse in question? Maybe we can take a look and see what's up...

Well then I'm not sure how to do links. default smiley :( I followed the instructions in a forum, but I'm a little slow at the html game. All my Sweet Sixteens are in my Special Projects tab, at least the ones I'm currently working with.

What a cutie she is!

I love the new ponies and their coats - gotta breed a good one soon so I can put SHL's gorgeous Fjord GA on it.

And I had a lovely surprise this morning - one of my mares gave me this little brute. I was going for a six-skiller, and managed to get a twofer in the process!

Hello everyone!

I've found out that crossbreeding is so much fun! default smiley :)
I like it a way more better than breeding pure horses... It's just boring. Every one of them is the same...

I've started a project, I'm working on it for weeks now... (an awful long process of training and blupping...)
I've reached a part, where it seems that I'm close to what I want default smiley :)

I want to make a crossbreed that has almost equal amount of genetic points in everything, except dressage. (somewhat like divine horse genetics) Also I want it to have the friesian coat as dominant. (it's beautiful <3 and yay they changed it to a new one, and thats a wonder)

Well it's a pretty slow process, and I know they don't have so many skills, but its hard to work alone default smiley :)

I've made an affix for them called "Divine Cavalry"

So far the horses:
http://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/affixe?id=199380

I have 2 new foals too. They need many games to reach a higher GP than the parents... *sigh* they borned with a bit lover traits, even though it was a 100 BLUP breed)

The foals according to the parents will have around 7-7.5 stars in everything.
(The parents borned with 0 inborn skills, because I havent fully blupped the parents, but now I'll blup every one of them)

For the next stepps I want to lower dressage a bit, and make speed a bit higher.
Btw It's pretty easy to blup them, they can beat pure 1000 skilled friesians in races that isn't their main skills default smiley ;)

Also they appeared amongst the top in skills not common to friesians.

What do you think about them so far? default smiley :)
By Retired breeder, 16th June 2010 14:42:29
Cryfenril: Your horse is almost like the one I want to reach with breeding default smiley :)
Nice one!
I'm still working on to make the skills more and more closer to each other.

I like him <3
By Retired breeder, 16th June 2010 14:44:36
That sounds like a fun project, Ayaveen. Maybe breeding with a double-all star friesian dominant could boost overall skills and still keep the friesian dominant genetics? They look like lots of fun and a nice challenge.

Kitsune, I love the colt! His coat is beautiful and his IBS are great! I have never seen an all-star mustang before...
By Retired breeder, 16th June 2010 14:47:43
Sunny2901 thanks i don't know how i did it i just wanted him to have a few trotting * so i added standerbred and well you saw what happned
Thank you Ayaveen!

Fries are a great crossbreeding staple because of their high dressage and trot - and the new Fjords will also bring some speed into the mix too, which is one place the Fries are sorely lacking.

The simplest six-skilled Frie crosses are usually a staight fifty-fifty mix of Frie and Hano, but adding other breeds in will bump up things like speed (Paints), stamina (Arabians), and a little more GP (Hunters). Balancing out the new blood without losing the trot is usually the biggest challenge.

I have several lines of Frie six-skilled crosses - the major ones being Kobalt Dynasty, The Big Blue Line, and the new Little Twin Stars group. They are a joy to work, easy to BLUP, and have gorgeous dressage for EC bumping. I think you'll really enjoy working on lines of your own, and always come share your successes in the thread so we can drool over your new kids!

I'v decided to start some crossbreeding so I covered my frisian foundie mare wit a fjord. The foal probably will not have super skills or stars or something but it's only a fun experiment.

kitsune>> I looked at Seto and I really like him. Yeah, he'll probably do good in coverings & such. I would definitely take one because of his speed. Glorious speed

http://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=10317753

i'm thinking of trying to improve my crossbreeds tort skills, what horses shall i use?
By Retired breeder, 16th June 2010 17:04:41
the secret to cross breeding - my daughter told me- is to pick one of your best horse and breed it with a good stallion but you have to advertise for all owners in the breeding negogations like a breed Thoroughbred
By Retired breeder, 16th June 2010 17:24:59
Standardbreds improve trot.
